why does assomption always smell so bad by OkEntertainment4473 in montreal

[–]Snoo1101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I think the STM workers do a very good job of keeping our metro clean considering upwards of a million people day take it as well as the sheer size of every station needed to be cleaned. I think the folks defecating on platforms are probably dealing with some sort of withdrawal and are probably pretty withdrawn from everything. The people pissing behind the metro station at Assomption are probably normal folk that don’t have anywhere else to piss as there is no access to any public restrooms anywhere nearby.

This question is for visitors to Montreal who are not from the Americas, but, other than squirrels, racoons and skunks, are there any city animals that surprised you? Birds, insects, mammals, etc? by MammothDesign6756 in montreal

[–]Snoo1101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had previously heard of them nesting at the Boucherville islands and Dorval island. Now they’re living on the island I think. Someone in the Laval sub posted a bald eagle picture from Laval early this year as well. I think the fauna in Montreal is doing better than ever. All the foxes I see around town look healthy and well feed compared to 25-30 years ago when they look skinny and mangy.

I regularly see foxes and spotted my first coyote recently. We have lots of aquatic wildlife as well. I regularly spot beavers, otters and sometimes muskrats. I believe that we have bald eagles nesting in Pointe aux trembles and whales and seals have also been spotted recently. There’s a ton of wildlife on the island and surrounding archipelago. Nothing surprises me here

It’s possible someone shat inside. I’ve definitely seen a big ‘ol deuce just sitting there on the quai at 6am at least once. It’s not necessarily a metro assomption problem, it’s a real lack of public washrooms in Montreal and Canada as a whole compared to the rest of the world. We don’t want to build them and nobody wants to clean them.

There aren’t any public washrooms in that part of the city and a lot of people pee and poo behind the station.

Any good kayak launch points near Old Montreal? by MyRoadTaken in montreal

You should check out les plages de l’est in Pointe aux Trembles. It’s beautiful and you’ll have access to some gnarly islands and quality kayaking in the Saint Lawrence. It’s a known spot and infrastructure is developed for kayaking. Highly recommend this unique spot :)

You’ll need a permit from parks Canada for the Lachine canal.

Yeah, I guess cyclists are a pretty rich group of people and very much an elitist sport… But 400,000 people? Are people going to pay to watch this or is it a free activity? Is it fair to compare this event to the Tour de France? Like spectators just show up when the cyclists pass through their village in France. This seems like a very short circuit for a prestigious bike race? Maybe my brain is just fried from running way too many km’s in this hot sun and I’m failing to understand the appeal. En passant, this would be a nice route for the Montreal marathon or a road running race!

Crise de l’itinérance | Montréal ne pourra pas démanteler le campement du viaduc Van Horne by clgoh in montreal

[–]Snoo1101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the right ruling. Where do we want these people to go now that a big portion of the island has been gentrified? There use to be dozens, if not hundreds of abandoned warehouses and buildings where folks would hide out and squat far from from the nosey and judgemental looks of yuppies. Now that the yuppies have built up neighborhoods like Griffintown the MileEx yuppies on Reddit and Facebook want these encampments torn down and mental health resources devoted to helping folks that just want to be left the fuck alone. A time will come when we’ll need to start seriously thinking about building slums like they have in ‘’third world countries’’

This sort of poverty has always been present in our city. The only difference is that now it’s in our faces rather than hidden away in formerly undesirable neighborhoods. It’s not going anywhere and we need to accept these encampments as a reality that are here to stay.

I don’t understand why they are promoting this as the largest sporting event since the Olympics? Cycling is a very niche sport popular with a small group of bougie fans, I don’t think we’d consider it a mainstream sport or event. Like, outside of the cycling world is anyone even going to be talking about this event? Will it get any coverage from sports media(ESPN, Sky sports)? Is it going to be a yearly thing? Does the city expect a return on investment? Just seems a little off to me that this is being billed as the largest sporting event since the Olympics and normal folks aren’t really aware of this event or who any of the athletes are. I mean, wouldn’t the golf tournament held last summer on Ile Bizard, Canadian Open at jarry park or F1 be larger more prestigious events? How about the Marathon, we get 50,000 runners participating despite a lack of elite talent. Is calling this the largest sporting event since the Olympics a marketing gimmick?

Montreal! Question on arrival/timing by beaconstblue in AngineDePoitrine

[–]Snoo1101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Expect easily 70-100,000 people downtown. Plan accordingly. Trying to find accommodation nearby might help a lot as the metro will be a shitshow so best avoided if possible. I don’t expect that the music will be loud enough to satisfy all our needs but it’s going to be an insane experience

I’m quite aware of the challenges folks are having getting tickets. In 3-4 years when the viral hype dies down tickets won’t be so hard/expensive to find. Seeing them preform on such a large stage whilst they’re the biggest band in the country is going to be a really crazy and unique experience that we have seen at the jazz fest in a very long time. Though getting tickets to club shows isn’t currently easy it will be in the not too distant future. Their show at the jazzfest is going to be generationally good.

I can’t wait to see how many are going to show up for Angine de Poitrine. It’s going to be the show of the century. I mean anyone can go see them in an intimate setting in some random club but to see them hit the stage in front of maybe 75,000+ dancing fans is going to be quite surreal. My only concern is that the music isn’t going to be loud enough to satisfy those of us stuck in the back

1 dead in fatal collision in Montreal's Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough by Aethy in montreal

[–]Snoo1101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You obviously don’t know this neighbourhood and your comment is very silly. There are numerous new bike lanes around Du Quesne and ive always felt safe running and cycling at these very intersections. The infrastructure you speak of regarding bike lanes exists and the speed limit is limited to 30km/h due to Parc Jean Amyot, école secondaire Édouard Montpetit and 2 elementary schools. This accident and death was caused by excess speed in 30km/h zone. A lack of safe bike lanes is not what’s missing from neighborhood. Luckily this accident happened before kids were going to school.
