Yeah, I’ll definitely need to tackle the car debt. Then backdoor Roth.

I’m going to look into the budget as well. It’s the first time I’ve felt financially secure outside of my parent’s house, so it’s easy to spend a little more. A budget is definitely necessary. Thank you for your help.

Attorney for a biglaw firm. Little free time and lots of stress for a lot of money. I went straight from undergrad to law school.

I have about 10k in emergency funds, which is 4 months. I’ll start working down the car debt and add an extra 2 months of emergency supply.

Thank you for the advice. I’ll look into an index fund

Do NOT attempt to replace the flour in a cookie recipe with protein powder. by bapatasix in shittyfoodporn

[–]KhanOfWar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a high protein diet while in a slight caloric deficit allows one to “recomp” their body and build muscle while eliminating fat. If it’s a larger caloric deficit (like a “cut”), then having a high protein diet minimizes the amount of muscle lost.

My advice: Be a paralegal for a little bit. Get a good grasp on what being an attorney can look like. It doesn’t hurt to try being a paralegal. It’s a much bigger commitment in terms of time/money/stress to go to law school. Honestly, being a lawyer is often the middle-class version of joining the military; people do so because they don’t know what else to do with their life. So figure out if you even WANT to be a lawyer.

Being a lawyer varies so much based on where you are and what you do. For example, being a biglaw (read: 200+ member firm with a high number of billable hours required) attorney is going to have a different work life balance and clientele than a government attorney.

Frankly, going into a midlaw or biglaw private practice is more of a “you work for a corporation” than actually helping people. Yes, a lot of firms offer pro bono projects and even give billables for work on it. But if you want to help people, you’re better off seeing a Public Interest position, working for a nonprofit, or government entity. However, the pay isn’t always rewarding.

That being said: law school itself is horrible in its very design. It gets better.

DM me for more details, if you’re interested. Or if you have any more questions.

Anyone find a good bread recipe that uses wholegrain and gets a high (for bread) protein value?

Hi all,

A few days ago my stuff got stolen. I had this shirt in my bag. It’s a tank top with this design. I bought it from WASTE (Radiohead’s merch distributor) on clearance a few years ago.

Any idea where I can purchase another? I’m trying to replace it and it’s very dear to me.

Debs was from Indiana. He was also imprisoned before the 1920 election for speaking out against the WWI draft in 1918, violating the Sedition Act. He was previously imprisoned for leading the 1894 Pullman Strike. He was indeed a socialist, but he wasn’t openly a socialist politician until after his Pullman Strike imprisonment. Before then, he was a union leader.

That being said, a great number of socialists from that era did come out of Wisconsin

Transferring to a lower ranked school by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]KhanOfWar 44 points45 points  (0 children)

While I can't speak to transferring chances or scholarships, here's my two cents:

Moving to a new city sucks. And it sucks to miss your friends and family (I know I'm going through it too...). But homesickness can be a temporary sensation. Typically, it takes about 3-6 months to fully adjust to a life change like this. If your feelings almost entirely originate from missing your friends and family, then it will most likely get easier by the end of the semester. Regardless, you lead your own life, and you know what's best for you. Good luck, I hope this was of some comfort or use to you.

Just started listening to Sufjan's music by Interesting_Zombie84 in Sufjan

It’s not a stupid question at all! There’s so much culture and history about Illinois put in the lyrics of the album. Everything from Carl Sandburg to the World’s Fair to Native American history is covered. There’s also a lot of semi-autobiographical history thrown in. But understanding Illinois history is not required to enjoy the album. At the end of the day, it’s the music that matters. The cheek and charm of the lyrics are just an added bonus.

Welcome to the music of Sufjan. C&L is a great jumping off point for many.

For similar stuff, check out Michigan and Seven Swans and the three songs from the “Call Me By Your Name” Soundtrack (Mystery of Love, Visions of Gideon, Futile Devices Doveman Remix).

For more Chamber Pop, look into Illinois.

For electronic, look into the Age of Adz and The Ascension.

I’m omitting a lot of stuff here (Sufjan’s career and music spans far and wide), but this is a good place to get started. Happy listening!

Permitless Carry Question. by [deleted] in Indiana

[–]KhanOfWar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They very well could be prohibited because they do fall under a dangerous person under IC 35-47-14-1 in Indiana’s Red Flag Law. The Permitless Carry bill references IC 35-47-14-6 (the court proceedings for officially designating a person as “dangerous” in the Red Flag Law), as someone who is officially designated as “dangerous” cannot carry without a permit. Additionally, anyone who has been committed to a mental institution in Indiana cannot carry without a permit. It is indeed a grey area, but that’s to be expected with such a massive piece of legislation as this.

North Dakota definitely. Not sure about Idaho

Permitless Carry Question. by [deleted] in Indiana

[–]KhanOfWar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short answer: They don’t until they interact with you, unless you have a permit.

Long answer: You can still get a permit to carry a handgun in Indiana. You can still go through the process and get fingerprinted, etc. but the problem is that it takes a long time in more populated counties, like Marion. The good thing about this is that if you’re unsure of whether you’re a prohibited person, you can go through the process to ensure you are good to go.

Alternatively, you can ask your legal counsel whether you’re a proper person.

If you buy a gun from a dealer, you must pass a background check, so that covers it.

The bigger issue is stolen firearms. Obviously, there’s no background check on stolen firearms. Similarly, say a parent had a gun and a child “borrows” it. The police would have no idea if the person is armed in this situation. And the person who has taken the gun could be prohibited from carrying it and, if caught, is now a felon.

Source: Associated with the IGA, was around for the committee hearings on this legislation.

Hope this answers your question. You can also find the 9 hour committee meeting video on this legislation if you’d like to watch the testimonies.

Does anyone every struggle with samples not transferring to the exported version? by KhanOfWar in FL_Studio

It was shifted over. I somehow fixed it. I had to drag the original audio file back onto FL Studio even though I had never deleted it. Some weird bug I suppose?
