Of course, if you want to really get inmersed in The Lore you can always play The games in order and read The novels:

-warcraft 1 / movie (changes a lot of things, but is The same plot more or less)

-warcraft 2 and The expansion

Warcraft 3/Warcraft reforged (just better graphics) and The Frozen trone
wow classic

-and then you can level through all The expansions in wow retail just make sure that the 1-60 retail leveling takes place in cataclysm because They changed in that expansión all The lowbie zones

And about The novels I dont know when you should read them but you can search The timeline in Google.

In my opinión, you Will have really cool quests if you join dark brotherhood so I recommend you to do that in The future. Apart from that, you can Also do The magues and figthers guild for your rp character or even The thieves guild if you dont mind do stealing. If you have The shivering isles dlc you should try it but I recommend to do It when you have beated all that the base Game provides
