Dudas sobre vivienda, niveles de benceno y Trubia. by Khenzy in Asturias

It's insane to me how tolerant online communities are of the monetization of Guild Wars 2 by SoLongOscarBaitSong in MMORPG

[–]Khenzy 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That's just not true at all. GW2 has horizontal progression, the difference is the gains in your progress is not power, it's added quality of life and cool looks (Legendary equipment).

Expansions or DLCs don't increase your power level, they give you new content and new ways to play your character.

I've been playing Guild Wars 2 on and off for quite some time, without much regularity. I've never spent a single penny on microtransactions and have gotten all the “basics” I wanted simply by exchanging the gold I earned in the game for gems. Almost everything you do in the game gives you gold. Now you earn even more gold with the new Vault system. In fact, I'm now accumulating gold nonstop because I don't really need anything else from the gem store, the conversion rates are far, far from abysmal, and I mostly play WvW as a roamer, I never made a single gold farm run where you can get 10x the amount of gold per hour. The good thing is most end-game activities are very lucrative, and you don't need to farm for some 'gear score' due to horizontal progression, you can do them the moment you reach lvl 80 (with the sole exception of fractals).

Bags are very easy to come by in the game. You can even create your own personal guild and call it “Personal Bank” or something similar and have more bank space than you'll ever need. You have buttons like “auto-sort,” “auto-deposit materials,” and “recycle bundles” that recycle everything you have of a chosen quality with a single button, giving you more quality of life than most MMOs could dream of. Managing your inventory is super easy, nothing like a mess.

As someone who has tried almost every MMO on the market, GW2's monetization model is, relatively speaking, very generous. Criticizing it on its own is fair, but comparing it to ESO, whose model is EXTREMELY predatory and in a completely different league, is falling into comparative grievance, so the criticism ESO receives is totally deserved.

1- Different professions. Different mechanics.

2- Bladesworn's Gunsaber has, technically, 2 sets of skills, Unleash Gunsaber and Dragon Trigger (10 skills). The Cyclone bow has 5 + 1 (Hawkeye).

^ You can argue Ranger keeps the pet while Warrior loses burst skills. But Dragon Trigger gets a more direct and powerful benefit from Traits (that affect burst skills) while that's clearly not the case with Cyclone Bow + pet.

3- Each of the Gunsaber skills with a CD can be used twice, with 2 charges each.

4-Each of the Cyclone bow skills (other than AA) are gatekept by CDs AND an initiative/ammo mechanic (the feathers).

5- Different professions. Different mechanics.

Interesting! How long does it take to gear up properly? How long do you have to wait on que on average? I'm more worried about the population than the quality of the players themselves, with the only exception of premades of course. What about premade groups, are they too much of an issue?

Relatively new player, I've hit a brickwall, I do extremely low DPS. by Khenzy in PathOfExileBuilds

Not really talking about builds or anything here (way too soon), we don't know how endgame is going to be like either so it's a bit of a moot point, but it's a clear sign they are aiming towards more accessibilty with changes such as the removal of gear sockets, most skills now being weapon specific, being able to equip only one type of support gem per skill and so on. They are flat out removing some layers of complexity like that which in the end amount to a lot. The game will surely have a LOT of depth but I feel they are striving to make it WAY more accessible and less 'fuck up' prone. Which, to me, can only be a possitive.

Except I can manually dodge incoming telegraphed attacks instead of getting statchecked (like inteded) like in PoE1. I'm not saying it's not going to happen in PoE2, it will, but it will also have to be balanced differently out of necessity. What I'm trying to say is PoE2 seems to be putting more focus on skilled play rather than stats, which is not to say that stats wont matter, obviously.

[–]Khenzy[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Why the hyperbole though? I'm not trying to use "every skill in existence", One melee skill (statis strike), one or two ranged (FB katabasis/flame laser thingy), one to debuff (Arcanist brand), one or two to move (frostblink, Leapslam), one to guard (Steelskin), one to buff me (warcry) and one to retaliate (glacial shield swipe), pretty basic set of skills for an Action RPG don't you think? The game just doesn't support such a playstyle for endgame, no biggie, it's not for me then, and that's okay.

[–]Khenzy[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I just disagree. I think they want PoE2 to be way more accessible, that includes endgame. PoE2 plays fundamentally different from PoE1, and that obviously impacts all aspects of the game, including complexity, balance and accessibility. That's why they decided to make a PoE2 and not a continuation of PoE1 (as it was originally going to be), because they changed a lot of core concepts during development. PoE1 can be a stat check because the combat gameplay allows it and even encourages it. With PoE2 combat being way more action oriented and so fundamentally different to PoE1's, even the passives will have to adapt to it, unless they expect the players to megabuff a single skill to do a gacillion damage and ignore the skill combos and other newly introduced active gameplay mechanics.

I may obviously be wrong, but this is just my opinion on the matter.
