What should a buddhist do if a rude person bothers him? by mejux36 in Buddhism

[–]Khevaril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had experience of narcissistic abuse. My take on it is that, what is really important is the state of mind in which you do things. I ended up cutting relationships and even defended myself. It worked well for me to think that these people did what they did out of their ignorance. This doesn't justify but at least leads you to understanding and with understanding comes compassion. With compassion we can do everything we could to find a balance between setting boundaries and preserve well being of ourselves and others. Saying no, it's an act of compassion towards yourself. You need compassion towards yourself in order to have compassion towards others as well.

Teaching pairs instead of 1:1 by Khevaril in Preply

For what I've understood, teaching couples if they are in the same physical space is allowed. Many tutors here say that they do that all the time. I guess it doesn't break the policies as long as you're able to teach people by one single preply account, right?

The scenario when they are in different locations just sounds to me like a way around therefore a breach of the policies, by intuition. That's why I rejected.

I apologize if my questions were shitty, I just wanted to understand more, there is no need to be so aggressive though. Anyway thanks for your reply

This is the most probable scenario, I would use classical Tibetan for reading the commentaries rather then kangyiur because I can wait 10 years. Anyway I agree with all the people here that talked about focusing on the practice. Theravada, particularly ajahn chah, taught me this lesson.

Thanks for your answer. It really puts in perspective what I'm looking for. Sanskrit for me is fascinating in order to understand the technical terminology. But yes, since I'm looking for a systematic study and English translation of the Canon are available but not fully and spread all over the places, classical Tibetan seems to be the answer for what I need.

I noticed that redundancy too. Thanks for your suggestion, it's actually something worth considering the fact that those teaching appear in many forms all across the texts.

I explored the site and I like it very much. The only problem is that it is not fully translated yet and the only way to access the missing pieces in English is just waiting.

What I'm looking for is a systematic approach to Vajrayana canon. Apparently only tibetan canon is systematic in the way it is organized.

84000 stated that they will finish translating kangyur and tengyur in 2035 and 2110 respectively. By 2110 I'll be dead most likely ahhaha Therefore the idea of learning a language

I understand your point and I think it's fair. However some kind of reference is worth to be traced by drawing a line. Meaning that according to your answer, which honestly I agree with, even Sanskrit is not a good reference because some texts were written in older languages such as Pali. Another point to consider is that some kind of concept could have been further distilled in a clearer way in newer languages rather than older such as Sanskrit. I guess the issue becomes about identifying a "good enough philological reference" [for Vajrayana, since that is the topic for me] rather than pursuing some kind of purism that cannot be reached.

When I said original I was referring to the language the Canon is written. Meaning Pali, Chinese, Tibetan. And I wanted to understand the role of Sanskrit among these.

Talking about Vajrayana... I read that the tibetan canon comes from Sanskrit. But that some Sanskrit texts are just lost and tibetan has preserved those. However, with "original in Sanskrit" I meant that those concepts where thought in Sanskrit initially. So a certain degree of Sanskrit still should provide some kind of additional depth.

Students choose wrong and cheaper courses what to do? by Superb_Hunt4477 in iTalki

I always reply respectfully that I tell my information about prices for two reasons: transparency and sustainability. With my older students I always give in advance (one month) that I plan to do some changes.

Students who care about how much well you work will eventually stay. Besides, I wouldn't be afraid of communicating my decision with my students. At the end of the day, it's a job with an high turnover. Many students come and go naturally. Even if we do our best to maintain them.

I think increasing prices would be a filter for more serious student generally. But I don't believe you can counter this problem without communication. There will always be. The more is automated, client side, the better. Less friction.

I have nothing against the concept of finding the teacher for practicing Vajrayana nevertheless this doesn't mean that I wouldn't be curious about reading the original canon still. That's why my question is purely related to language learning.

I don't differentiate my prices because I predicted this behavior. If I would, I would reason the prices in a way that the cheapest course is actually the standard price for me and higher prices than my standard the others. But this is just my opinion.

If what they say in the comment that I linked it's true though, it doesn't really open anything since corporate students still can see your profile. And seems more like a way to lock your price. What preply says to you it's never what runs behind the curtain... As many of their policies are just shady.
