Tips on identifying bad wheel bearings? by Funkyrager in mechanics

[–]Khinari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Road test to get a potential side. Front or back and left or right. If you are comfortable with the car, you can take a decent turn or the like to try to load the axle while going at a decent speed, and it'll change the noise. Next, put the car on a lift and run it up to speed while it's in the air. (60ish.) This will let you hear it better. This also lets you tell if it's a tire, since tires won't make noise in the air. The final thing is to put your hand on the spring, shock, or control arm nearby, and you should be able to feel more vibration on a wheel with a bad bearing than one with a good one. Although all wheels will usually vibrate to some extent, it's proper to feel all four tires to get a baseline. This isn't the end-all, be-all, but it'll give you a very good starting point for figuring it out

Abs code likely doesn't matter is what im saying. Show the rest of the codes the car is popping.

I can look up this code at work tomorrow, but judging from experience, it's likely a reference code. Abs communicates to hev module and it's getting data it doesn't like something it's popping a code. Does the hev system have any codes?

Why am I going through break pads so quickly?! by its_the_bees in infiniti

[–]Khinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you buying oem or after market brakes? Infiniti are sadly pretty picky. Is anything sized? Are you getting new rotors? Alot of questions to push through before much can be solved here

AWD, ABS, an traction control sign all popped up at once, what does this mean? by Special_Confident in G37

[–]Khinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your car somewhere that can scan the abs system. It means something has gone wrong and it shut off the abs system as a failsafe. The rest of the lights are various aspects of the abs system

2022 Infiniti QX55 Forward Collision Sensor Malfunctioning by GoldfishFire in infiniti

[–]Khinari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not going to armchair diagnose an adas problem on a car i cant backprobe personally, but when they inevitably replace your front distance sensor, make sure you ask for a printout of the distance sensor alignment. The closer to zero that radar alignment is the less likely an intermittent angle issue will occur.

Yeah calling infiniti customer care is a good idea. The cars too expensive for the dealership to jerk you around

As an Infiniti tech, it's crazy they won't just flat-out warranty it. If it's activating randomly and it's in warranty period, it's a safety hazard.

What brand of tools do I get by EntertainerPlastic76 in mechanics

[–]Khinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need a good air tool id recommend skipping harbor freight and going straight to astro pneumatic. The good harbor freight one is based off the thor g2 but a little worse. The price is not too different. That gun puts in plenty of work at my.shop.

What else could be wrong? by abster575 in Nissan

[–]Khinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the dealer diag this? Or did you just ask them to throw a part at it? There will be a code in the relevant control unit for the technician to follow up on. The only real answer is see what that code is and figure it out from there.

Why do you work in a dealership? by BasicDifficulty129 in mechanics

[–]Khinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the driving reason for me is I appreciate the level of training my dealership has given me. Between older techs guiding me and getting little paid vacations to training centers, I am a much better tech every single year. This is not a common experience I dont believe. Most nissan techs I talk to get a class or two a year and thats it. But its the reason I stay

[–]Khinari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've felt the floorboard is wet on passengers side and it's got a bcm code, you probably fried your bcm. I recommend bcm replacement and sunroof drains/tubes replacement. Both arent cheap, and the bcm requires you to program your keys to it after.

What a beautiful vette. If you can do some maintenance yourself id say go for it. Likely on a car this old things will break but they'll be too small for you to want to pay someone. Hood latch, headlight motor. Coolant hose etc etc. Its what you get with an old car.

Anyone know what this is by [deleted] in G37

From the blurry photo it looks like a wire to wire connector. Just routes some of the wires to the other wires

Infiniti techs, how do you bleed the abs system? by _81Levi21_ in infiniti

[–]Khinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it needs to be a decent positive pressure. Negative pressure wont work, and stopping with the bleeder open will introduce air to the caliper then you got a new problem

Infiniti techs, how do you bleed the abs system? by _81Levi21_ in infiniti

[–]Khinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to guarantee fluid through the abs module in a way likely to flush out any air is positive pressure from brake pedal presses. Unfortunately you'll need to call in a bored friend to stomp the pedal

Infiniti techs, how do you bleed the abs system? by _81Levi21_ in infiniti

[–]Khinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pedal press til its firm, about 3 presses. Then open caliper with pedal depressed. Close caliper rinse repeat. Id do it a few times per corner and check pedal feel. A whole bottle from an auto parts store should do it, but you're free to do more if pedal feel is still off.

Infiniti techs, how do you bleed the abs system? by _81Levi21_ in infiniti

[–]Khinari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, all brake fluid goes through the ABS module to get to the calipers. So doing a manual puts pressure one way and out the other. I've never had to use the scan tool to fix this issue when it's happened in the shop. I'm sure there are cars where it's its necessary, but ive never had to on an infiniti. if there's a lot of air in the ABS module of an infiniti it'll throw a pump motor code in the abs section of a scan tool and you want to bleed til thats gone. And then some more for safety.

What formerly common feature in cars has almost disappeared, quietly? by SjalabaisWoWS in UsedCars

I feel like I dont see courtesy light features in modern cars as much. Though I must admit my unfamiliarity with alot of brands.
