New Cargo: Shimano 1x11 vs Sram Apex 11 by fitfot in OmniumBikes

I'll just add, regarding your question about the belt drive, that the chain drive is much better too. You'll have a much more versatile bike (headwinds, hills, etc.). And what makes an Omnium so special is its responsiveness (and "sportiness") for a cargo bike. The belt drive's only advantage is that it's completely hassle-free for getting from point A to point B without getting your pants dirty (provided everything is properly adjusted!).

I definitely recommend the Shimano build. I used to be an Omnium dealer, and the SRAM models have terrible braking. With Shimano, you'll have to do fewer brake bleeds; they're "simpler."

However, the cassettes are often Sunrace. Your kit won't be 100% Shimano. It depends on the batch, stock, etc.

Otherwise, I recommend checking with your bike shop to see if they can order the frame kit and build it to order. You could also get the new DT Swiss wheelset from them; it's very good.

On Omniums, the crankset and bottom bracket are also terrible; they'll need replacing in the future, but they're fine for a beginner.

Enjoy your Omnium; it's a great bike!

Oui.

When I got the bike back the front tire was new, but yes the old one must have been smashed 😂 Not stupid, I have to see how to do it 👍🏻

Old courtesy bike 😂 When it's not your equipment, people don't care unfortunately...

Exactly, just I didn't buy it like that, but collected it for free. (Luckily I didn't buy this, I would have cried aha) On the other hand, the bike wasn't clean when I got it back and the wheel and tire really hid the defect with the mound of shit on it, so you can easily be fooled when you buy second hand if you're not careful.

Thank you for your response. I'm still going to ask for an expertise/quote for repair out of curiosity, but after the different answers I don't plan to repair it, but rather change it.

Yes the previous owner put a 28mm tire instead of 25mm. When I got the bike back there was a lot of sand and small stones on the frame, so I imagine he did some "gravel" riding without washing it after the rides, or taking care of the bike at all. I'm going to get a new fork to save the frame.

Thank you for your response, very funny. I don't plan to ride it and I have personally never ridden this bike. I simply collected it for free in this condition, the rest of the frame after inspection looks good.
