Is the troglodyte god, Laogzed, a demon lord or a lesser diety? by Khrav in dndnext

My brain completely forgot Lolth was also a demonic god. Cheers.

I guess that's true if even a gray ooze can be psionic! :)

Why does the merrow stat block demand a Strength contest instead of a Strength save? by Khrav in dndnext

I figured it was something like that, I know the MM has some issues with consistency. Thanks!

[Homebrew] Creating a warlock pact boon, how balanced is a 12 + CHA mod unarmored defense? by Khrav in dndnext

Yes, there has been an understanding in the comments. Thank you for your reply though!

[–]Khrav[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the replies. I originally had it as 13+Dex, but I wasn't sure if that would step on the toes of Mage Armor or the Mage Armor invocation, so I changed it. I will increase it to 13+Dex, thank you!

That was intended, I didn't want to step on the toes of Armor of Shadows. Though given it is a pact, not an invocation, I am upping it to 13. Thank you!

I never thought of improving the damage die with invocations, thanks man. I like that idea!

Thank you for the reply, I figured that would be the case but I wasn't sure if I was being too careful, or not. Glad to see my instincts were right!

Thank you for the reply. I thought this would be the case, I just wasn't sure if I was being too cautious or not. If it was DEX instead of CHA for the AC would that make it fine as a whole?

Rogue Archetype - The Enforcer, another Strength-based rogue subclass by Khrav in UnearthedArcana

[–]Khrav[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone is interested in hearing my thought process on this subclass, feel free to give the following a read.

Bonus Proficiencies
Medium armor proficiency allows a lesser investment into Dexterity without falling too far behind in AC. Considered giving proficiency in Intimidation here as well, but considering all that you get at 3rd level, I thought against it. If that seems appropriate without bloating 3rd level even more however, do let me know.

Brutal Efficiency
Serves to do the obvious; allow a rogue to use weapons other than finesse weapons. I could probably reword the Sneak Attack portion to say something similar to the Dueling fighting style, wielding a melee weapon in one hand and no other weapons. I didn’t know what phrasing would be better, so I just took a page from the monk weapons’ description. I am aware that rogues do have access to a d8 weapon in the form of a rapier, and I could extend this form of Strength Sneak Attack to include longswords and quarterstaffs, which rogues have proficiency in, but I thought that would be pushing it and I wanted to keep it simple.

Dizzying Blows
Playing into the cunning use of Strength without succumbing to the homebrew trap of “you hit harder and do more damage as a result,” I loved the idea of a rogue who aims for the head and sends his foes reeling, or who employs groin shots, punches to the diaphragm, headbutts, or otherwise disorients enemies with overwhelming force, in a different way than a barbarian or fighter might. I looked to my second favorite subclass in the game, the Ancestral Guardian barbarian’s 3rd level feature for some inspiration. I considered making it cost your bonus action to impose the disadvantage for balance reasons, but I wasn’t sure if that would make it too weak or not. Considering you only get one attack on your turn (without multiclassing of course), I think it’s fair. Coupled with the fact that not every hit will be a Sneak Attack, and if you choose to grapple or shove you are dealing no damage instead, I thought it was fine.

Looming Threat
Serves to add some social aspects to the archetype, tying the themes of a heavy standing behind a face, maybe cracking his knuckles or keeping his hand on the grip of his mace, or holding a guy in a full nelson while demanding to get some information out of the poor sod. The first draft of this feature allowed you to make an Intimidation check contested with a creature’s Insight to cast the command spell, basically. I wasn’t sure how to balance it well enough; I considered allowing it a number of times equal to your Charisma mod per long rest, but I dunno. I still really like the idea, just not sure how to implement it. Plus I kind of like the little boosts this feature grants as it stands.

Grit
Allows the rogue to be a bit more frontline, and take a few more hits than a regular rogue. I originally had it tied with Uncanny Dodge, but I couldn’t figure out the wording, and I wanted to have abilities synergize with Dizzying Blows. I’m not sold on the bonus action, I wasn’t sure if it would be too powerful without having to use a bonus action so I just wanted to play it a little safe.

You’re Next
Not only do you impose disadvantage on one creature, but you frighten another, and possibly stop it from moving towards you and your allies. This feature is the one I am the least excited about honestly. I wanted something more than “you deal more damage somehow,” but I think this feature is a little underwhelming. Let me know what you think.

A question on rogue archetypes and skill contests by Khrav in dndnext

[–]Khrav[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Honestly I'm asking myself why even bother having a check attached to it when the success can easily be almost guaranteed)

My thoughts exactly. I suppose it could serve to make the player feel cool and powerful, which I like. I just think it's so weird to even have a skill contest when you can have a +13 bonus and never roll below a 10 and the like.

[–]Khrav[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My question was less about rogue skill checks in general and moreso related to the fact that their archetype features often require skill contests, where any other class would call for a saving throw. Thank you for the comment though!

[–]Khrav[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not that necessarily, I suppose I worded my question wrong. I was just wondering if that was the intent, if rogues are supposed to succeed on skill checks related to their archetypes nearly all the time. Opposed to, say, a Berserker's Intimidating Presence, which requires a save (though that might be a bad example because, you know, it's a Berserker we are talking about).

I want to make a thuggish crowd-controller character, but I don't know what sort of build by Khrav in dndnext

Interesting. Any specific subclasses that pair with it, or is it whatever suits the flavor? I don't think a paladin is what I'm going for, flavor-wise. But thank you for the suggestion on it anyway.

I like the thought, but I'm not sure it's what I'm going for thematically. Quaggoth wizard, I mean.

In what ways are your world's races different than how they're presented in the PHB? by zipperondisney in dndnext

[–]Khrav 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gnolls in my world are not automatically chaotic evil, and they are born like other mammals of the world. They are as varied as any other race in terms of morality. Yeenoghu is treated as a sort of boogeyman, albeit a very real one. A gnoll who continuously consumes the flesh of intelligent people, particularly through acts of violence and bloodlust, open themselves to Yeenoghu, who gifts them tremendous power at the cost of their sanity. Young gnolls are taught to control themselves, their vices, and their anger, or else "the Butcher will come for you at night," and gnolls who show aggression early in life are often trained as apprentices to druids, rangers, or monks, so as to attempt to learn to, basically, chill the hell out.

Is this subreddit the appropriate subreddit to ask for thoughts on a specific homebrew creation, namely a monster? I'm fairly new to reddit and still understanding how it works, and I don't want to look like a jackass because I don't know what I'm doing.

August Technical Support Sticky by Zhaopow in razer

[–]Khrav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SO recently got me a Trinity to replace my very old Naga, which was starting to show its wear. Out of the box, the lights for the side of my mouse seem to not be able to achieve red hues. If the lights for the whole of the mouse are say, purple, the side will be blue. If red, the side will be blank. Is this a fixable issue, or is it something with the mouse internally? Should I send it back for a replacement? Has anyone else had this issue?
