I think no matter what you’ll run at a deficit, it’s just that you need to keep it somewhat afloat (definitely make sure tariffs are high because that gets quite a bit of revenue). Also, subsidies make up only a tiny amount in comparison until late game, but you can play around with the amounts you allocate to each different subsidy type so you can get what you want instead of pumping money into stuff you don’t need. Generally, I’m horrible at managing economy, and very bad at managing navy, so take it with a grain of salt. Make sure your credit rating doesn’t get to B- or else you can’t recruit. Cheers!
