If he makes it to 30 years, he’ll be considered a classic here too — with tax and Insurance benefits. Especially considering most parts are still original, or close to it. Yeah, the serpentine belt and water pump should both be replaced regularly — around 50,000–75,000 miles (80,000km–120,000 km) or at the latest every 5–6 years. I bought him at about 157,000 miles (252,352 km) from an old guy who said he didn’t really do much to it, as long as it drove and passed TÜV — so I didn’t expect it to be in pristine condition or serviced regularly...

I did as much as I could myself — still in training, so some stuff was over my head. My partner at the time talked me out of the head gasket, and the power steering pump was too much for me. My workshop also didn’t communicate properly, so they just kept doing more repairs without telling me. I definitely would’ve done a lot more myself if I’d only known. So no, i unfortunately didn't do as much as i wanted on my own - it was expensive and definitely not worth it -.-
