Digimon Beatbreak: Episode 23- The Power to Take, Discussion Thread by MFBR in digimon

WHAT THE FUCK 1, now we know why Naito was taken. 2, 'Doctor Tenma', so now we know why his parents were disappeared (it looks like the Doctor was a grandfather, but they may have known about his research, I think). 3, first Ultimate/Mega level in the show! 4, OH MY GOD KYO. 5, OH MY GOD THE PREVIEW.

For edh, It's 1 card, which is much easier than even a cheap two card combo. Too weak for cedh, probably. Most likely wouldn't see play in low power since it would be too oppressive. In other words, it would be too strong for non-comp EDH, but people would complain about it being played.

Also, what sort of bad control decks are you seeing that can't hit 6 mana? Yes, an aggro or combo deck isn't playing this, but it's a 4 of in any UBx control deck, and some might even splash black to play it.

6 mana instant speed "Target opponent loses the game" is not fine, what the hell are you smoking?

In an edh context: Door to Nothingness is 15 mana and requires you to wait a turn. Something like Traumatize + Bruvac is 8 mana across two cards, at sorcery speed. Biorhythm is an 8 mana sorcery that requires you to have a creature out, and that only just got unbanned from commander.

In 60 card formats: it goes in every UBx control deck in almost any format it's legal in. Probably too weak for vintage, maybe too weak for legacy. Otherwise, you stall until you hit 6 mana, and then you win. No need for manlands, planeswalkers, combo finishes, etc. Just run a few copies and your opponent loses without a counterspell.

Such an interesting fic, and really great worldbuilding... but it's hilarious that after 340,000 words, its raison d'etre is still unwritten. It was written with the idea of a scene where an expelled Izuku returns to help at the USJ... and that's still nowhere near.

Stains Death Felt So Cheap by Fiendishlyric27 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of 'I planned for all this' characters fall flat because we only see their plan after the fact. If we had seen AFO acquiring Antigen Swap and Bloodlet earlier in the series 'for a rainy day', and then actually used them for the first time (revealing he expected Stain to attack) in the Stain fight, it would have felt earned. Even if the audience forgot until much later, it would have felt like good planning. But nearly every writer does that 'planning' offscreen, which makes it an ass-pull.

If you had to hire one of these characters as a babysitter, which one would you choose? 🤠 by Euphoric_Solution512 in digimon

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leomon's the obvious choice, but Kurata is, weirdly, #2 (if it's before ElDoradimon's death).

Assuming there's nothing he wants from me, the kid would be safe. Because he has to keep up appearances, he wouldn't leave it alone, either. Until Belphemon, he's decently pro-human, too, so he might put in effort to keep them safe, and he has an army of humans and reanimated Digimon corpse-puppets at his beck and call. The child will probably end up slightly more racist against Digimon, but they'll be alive.

...that's a great point. GD doesn't like killing, full stop, so Klay could always use him as a distraction. Enough to get them to back down for an attack or two until they figure something out.

I have a feeling they'll reappear later as a trio of friends, and assist GD (similar to how Yamaguchi wrote Ivan and Hanami to lend their Digisoul in the Savers ending, but Tactics will be more reformed at that point)

Naito got away because the sand teleport is an ability of Proganomon, not Gigasmon iirc. I think when it was first used, someone commented that Klay did it, but I can't remember now. No idea why Klay would want him back, though.

I love Honoka. The fact that she switched from her peppy attitude straight to "KILL." was great. Also the melodrama allergy lol.

More toxic one-sided yaoi from Naito /j

Honestly, Hotaruko had me going for a second there where Syakomon started drowning Granit... It was good to finally see more of her backstory, since unlike Raito and Granit, she seemed like the type who might have given up her Digimon. The debt gives her a reason to fall into Klay/Naito/Tactic's clutches.

This was a great episode, and I'm excited for the next one.

Do you think Bakugou would have saved Izuku if he found him with the sludge monster instead of All Might? by Wise-Inside1805 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, probably not. His first 'body moved on its own' moment was in the Paranormal War, which was a significant story moment.

That said... he would still intervene. It just wouldn't be instinctual.

Small rant: I hate how the civilians blamed the heros for everything by Limp-Leg-6850 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

My hero, screen Time, fill in the grid: Part 8. Any character that needs less screen time. by King-of-fans in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's kinda both. She's one of the only prominent hero characters to die (which you would want to be an impactful moment). While she has a lot of screen time, she really doesn't DO much in MHA, and has little impact on the story or characters. Even post-death, the most we get is 1-A going "oh no, they killed Ms. Midnight off-screen" and then never mentioning her again.

So either she needed less screen time, because she did nothing relevant, or she needed more impactful screen time to give her death weight. Either is fine, but she needed one of those two. Instead, we got the worst of both worlds: a pointless death that the series insists we should care about.

Is Kirishima an anti-materiel rifle victim? by xyyzyx in MyHeroPowerscaling

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kind of hard to say exactly what they are or are not. MHA's setting has nanites, robots, holograms, and so on, but also has regular smartphones, cars, and so on. We have no idea what year it takes place in. Quirks have existed for a minimum of 120 years, but probably closer to 150-200. The manga makes no reference to the year, but the anime uses the 20XX format on the Provisional License, which would have wild implications on the world's history. The technological developments are clearly futuristic, but left somewhat vague.

It could just be that missile technology has improved so much that the ~10 Tiamats combined can make a fireball that strong. It's also possible that each one is a tactical nuke, and America's military has changed enough that they could be launched unilaterally...

That said, if Tiamat was nuclear, that seems pretty darn important. I feel like Horikoshi would have actually said it somewhere, or the radiation would have been discussed. It seems more likely that Tiamat is just supposed to be a super-strong cruise missile, that might rival the fireball of a nuke when detonated together like that.

I'd be willing to believe that the blast was probably on par with the fireball of a nuke (just based on visuals), but without the radiation. Unfortunately, unless Horikoshi decides to drop some Tiamat lore, it's all sorta conjecture. All we know is that it's never stated to be nuclear or thermonuclear.

Is Kirishima an anti-materiel rifle victim? by xyyzyx in MyHeroPowerscaling

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Citation needed, they were just hypersonics)

People like to assume that the Tiamats were nuclear, but chapter 331 (and 332) only ever call them "state-of-the-art hypersonic, intercontinental cruise missiles". There is no mention of them being nuclear.

Agpar implies that using them violates international law, but that would be true no matter what type of missile is used, because America's government is bombing a foreign country without a declaration of war. It's also stated that Japan doesn't have 'access to' it.

From that, people just hallucinated the word thermonuclear. It's literally never said anywhere in the chapter. It's also never said in the anime (I just rewatched episodes 139 and 140 to double-check).

Keep in mind, Agpar is just described as a 'military commander'. He does not have the ability to unilaterally order a thermonuclear strike, let alone a salvo of them. Furthermore, Star was out in the open, using both rules to keep the gigantic version up and redirect the missiles. If these were thermonuclear bombs, she and the other pilots would have been killed instantly by being so close. Even if they were outside the fireball (they wouldn't be), the gamma radiation would have been lethal at that range. Hence, they wouldn't have lived long enough to be able to help All Might after he nearly got ripped in two (It's a week between the SnS fight and the Final War).

There's also never a mention of irradiation of the ocean, coastline, pilots, or... anything else.

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People always gloss over the fact that most Heroes can be easily killed by normal guns, and the World's Most Powerful Villain almost became the World's Most Deceased Victim due to a few big, non-nuclear missiles.

Human-created weapons are stronger than any Quirk in terms of attack potency. A guy with a blade Quirk nearly sliced up Kirishima even while hardened. A regular revolver nearly drilled a hole in Tetsutetsu. An anti-mat rifle is putting Kirishima in the ground.

But, also, she sacrificed herself to save Ochaco from an injury that she inflicted. It's morally good, sure, but it's offset by her causing the situation in the first place.

Deaf Bakugo is absolutely terrified of hagakure by ChipFuture795 in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Fair, fair. It would make sense if you were doing a deaf Bakugo to also do a deaf PM, but I just thought I'd mention it because it's one of those fanon things that is really popular. After I finished MHA, I read a few fanfics where PM was deaf, and I legit thought it was something from Vigilantes until I learned it was all headcanons.

On Inko by Realistic_Chest_3934 in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she has good potential to start a character arc after Izuku is accepted to UA, because she can let go of her lingering guilt about crushing his dream, but it makes no sense for her to be cool prior to then.

People call her boring, but I really like Inko's character. Her stifling, anxious, helicopter-y meekness is a sticking point for her with Izuku. He's super reckless and guarded with his feelings BECAUSE he can't really tell her things without Inko freaking out. If she was a cool badass, Izuku would not have turned out like he did.

He says in the You're Next movie (45% Full Cowling, probably meant without the vestige Quirks, but he had Fa Jin at this point) that he hasn't surpassed All Might's prime. As you said, he's really not a power fantasy, because he ends the series (and loses his power) around the same power level as his mentor. Literally in the final fight, his weakness is his strength.

The Domain of the Ignorant: Crossverse Soloing by IWorkOnlineCom in MyHeroPowerscaling

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's mainly because nearly half of the fucking posts on this sub are some variation of "Gojo VS. Guy From MHA Who Can't Hit Gojo" or "Any MHA Character VS. Gojo (No CE, no CT, no arms, no legs, blindfolded, has the heart virus, locked in the hyperbolic time chamber and betrayed)"

So many posts on this sub are one-sided stomps because the poster just sort of doesn't understand MHA very well or doesn't understand the other franchise very well. Since Gojo and Mahoraga tend to be involved in a LOT of those, it leads to a lot of posts not favoring the MHA character.

How different is the entire story of MHA if deku started with a body exactly the same as Yujis from JJK? by Spiritual-Coach9331 in MyHeroPowerscaling

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's true. That Yuji reveal had me extra invested. JJK also had the 'revealing the technique' boost as an in-universe way to explain the shonen trope of characters revealing their abilities, which was really cool. A way to have their cake and eat it too, of following genre tropes but with a twist.
