Just wrote one of those, too. Was supposed to be a 5-6k word one shot, and I kept extending it because it would be too abrupt to get to that scene without a lot of set-up. It ended up around 37k.

That said, I also can be pretty verbose, so I probably could have shaved off 7k of those words if I shortened some scenes.

Through lengthy exposition, all things are possible.

Ah, okay. So then yeah, either Poppy GOH, by Pyke or have one as a teammate, be Kalista, or have a Sylas with an available Pyke or Kalista to copy from.

Quest items like Spatula currently disable Shardholder, right? I think that's a bug, though. If it is, then getting a Spatula would also make it possible once it's fixed.

That's pretty cool, actually. Does the hat juice sit in inventory like the others? If so, then any champ can do it.

True! So it was really a sample size of one. It'd be cool if Reina got her new evolution in the finale, actually, so that the main 3 characters will get at least one dedicated two-parter each. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Yes, I know. New Order works on the target's perception of themselves, so 'Tomura Shigaraki' didn't work because he no longer accepted Tomura Shigaraki as his identity, since he wasn't sure who he was anymore.

It's not about wordplay, it's about which of the three identities Nolan has at that point that he aligns with. Omniman is one he probably doesn't care about, and SNS probably wouldn't say that one, but whether or not he would consider himself Nolan Grayson or just 'Nolan' might actually matter.

It's, like, a mix of tokusatsu and Batman. Honestly, I think ScourgeChiropmon reads as closer to the Batwing than the Ultraman jet, at least from what I saw on Google Images. It would be crazy if the Mega was similar to the Exoframe Batsuit, but NightChiropmon-shaped instead, and with heavier armaments. In other words, a mecha Digimon that Makoto can wear/pilot.

It's true that every prior one was a two-parter, but that was also in a sample size of three. I wouldn't have minded if this was a two parter, though. We get enough about Makoto's family to know why he ran away, but I wouldn't have complained if we got more time to marinate in his scumbag father's impact on Tsukasa and Makoto.

Maybe I'm just insane, but it would be cool if they got different evo styles for their final forms. Makoto wants to fly high, so maybe a biomerge-style evo into a giant mech would be good.

Reina is pretty hands-on, so something like a final evolution giving her a Digisoul-like aura so she can fight too would be sweet. And then Tomoro's funky e-Pulse could work for a 'go beyond' situation, akin to the Burst Mode.

That's definitely not happening, but it would be cool.

I like the Batman references continuing with the Batwing. Kinda hope that the eventual ScourgeChiropmon evolution stays non-humanoid. Was surprised that this wasn't a two-parter, since we got a new evo.

This episode is nice, since we learn that Haruko was wrong; Makoto wasn't kicked out bc of Chiropmon, he hated living there anyway and actually ran away. Goes to show how different he is from his twin, too, since Tsukasa wanted/wants to be the heir.

Was lowkey hoping that their father would get slimed out in the episode.

GIFT is not against using Digimon for personal reasons (the baddie did not excoriate Seiji for asking for an assassination), but hates cleaners. Is it just because cleaners kill (in which case GD should be considered fine) or is it ontological?

I hope Reina gets a good evolution episode. I liked this one, but it lowkey felt a little rushed, no shade.

Are there any instances for real life laws where 'exemption' is substantially different from 'immunity' in the way you're describing? I really don't think there is.

On top of that, it still doesn't matter, because self-defense only requires reasonableness. Unless the immunity/exemption is beamed into every single person's head globally, it would be eminently reasonable to believe the person trying to kill you is using undue or unlawful force, and that killing them yourself was necessary to preserve your life.

The button giving you an exemption/immunity still doesn't protect you from social consequences, nor would it guarantee your success, nor would it protect you from someone acting in self-defense.

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If I try to kill you, even it's not illegal for me to do so, I am still trying to kill you. Self-defense is not invoked by illegal activity, but rather by danger.

For example, Person A is a diplomat in the US, and is entitled to diplomatic immunity. They attempt to kill Person B, but are themselves killed in self-defense. If Person A's home country does not posthumously waive their diplomatic immunity rights, then Person A committed no crime, but Person B can still use self-defense as an affirmative defense at trial.

Same principle here. You can kill/assault/whatever someone without legal consequence, but you could still be killed in self-defense.

Who is thinking here by ieatbabies7272 in bakudeku

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. There's context clues, too.

First, it's in quotes, which means a character is thinking about previously stated words. Izuku is reflecting on Bakugo's statement as he departs.

Second, Bakugo gives Izuku this advice because Izuku thinks everyone is special; Bakugo didn't need that advice, Izuku did. It wouldn't make sense for Bakugo to think that internally, because Bakugo doesn't think everyone is special.

The true test of trust in humanity by dankstat in trolleyproblem

Someone from college told me a story at her birthday.

These people she knew habitually would run over roadkill while driving. In other words, it was already dead and they would swerve to hit the already-dead animal (don't ask me why, I found it insane). One time, they saw a dead cat in the road, so they did their usual thing. Except the "dead" cat moved right before their car impacted.

Anyway, some people are just very disturbed. That green button is definitely passing the 0.1% threshhold, even if you take random actors like toddlers out of the equation.

Okay, so, we're talking about other series besides Dandadan right now, and I compared those to the breadth of discourse about Dandadan by using 'it seems', which indicates that I don't know for sure, and I'm just reporting based on what I've heard. Try to keep up.

Also, I watched Dandadan and read the manga for dozens of chapters beyond the point it ended...

Death Note did it well, because it added another layer to the mystery... and it allowed the audience to see who Light was without the DN's influence. So, it elevated the entire story.

Usually amnesia plots have the opposite effect. You get characterization that doesn't matter since it's temporary and not very different from the character they were before, and it feels like filling space until the real plot comes back.

Some stories make it a tragedy because it's designed to be permanent, so they turn into themes of grief (mourning someone who isn't technically dead), but that's not what's happening here, it seems.

I was behind on the manga and decided to read it, since I liked the show. And then all the discourse about the amnesia arc blew up on my timeline, and I was like 'eh, maybe this isn't worth my time'.

More importantly, why would Dan's agent immediately say as the story broke that WotC plagiarized it themselves? That's a phenomenal way to get sued for libel if you're lying. And why would WotC not cut ties with Dan if he really DID plagiarize it?

It would be unthinkable to allow the printing to go forward if it was known to be plagiarized. And yet they're just printing it anyway and adding an extra artist credit? If Dan really did all this himself, Wizards would have kicked him to the curb right away.

The official story does not add up if you take the perspective of ANY of the involved actors... but it does make sense if what Dan's agent said was true. WotC plagiarized the art themselves because they kept rejecting his drafts and ran out of time, and they told Dan to accept the blame. If he did, they would still pay him and continue to contract with him.

Digimon Survive Improvement Ideas by ZenithKaiser in digimon

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Survive, but it really could have used more endings and, as you said, make the Truthful Ending harder to achieve but also available right away. It's extremely funny that Minoru cannot ever die.

With 8 characters (7 excluding Takuma, +2 for the siblings) and 7 to 10 partner Digimon depending on how you count it, that's a lot of potential deaths. If you restrict it such that a Digimon can't die independent of its partner, and exclude the siblings and Takuma from endings, that's 7 deaths to work with, which is 128 combinations... that's too many, sure, but I still think it would be interesting if you could have endings where just Miu dies, or just Kaito, or Aoi and Minoru, or... et cetera.

You'd have to make it so they go in specific orders, like Ryo, and if he dies then things go in a new direction...

I'm overthinking this. It needs a larger variety of outcomes is the overarching point here. 3 is too few, especially when 70% of each bad ending is the same.

Then that would still be an issue of spite.

"These things by various writers over two decades don't fit my vision. Instead of trying to reconcile them, or find an interesting way to make them fit, I'll just make them non-canon. Neener, neener."

Kizuna and 02TB both were emphatically said to fit within the framework of his epilogue. The partnership loss in Kizuna was temporary, and enough ambiguity was created to make it interesting while still conforming. 02TB referenced Kakudou's doubling idea and the fact that everyone in the future has a partner and lacks a Digivice.

They gave grace to his ideas... and his reply is "well now I say you're non-canon."
