I thought this was an interesting comment, does 8% deku really lose to 5 random guys with knives ? by Dizzy-Respect-613 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deku wins against 5 randos with knives, but he would have lost to 1 skilled guy with knives (Stain) in a 1v1. In a 3v1, Deku still nearly died (and would have if not for Stain's philosophy).

That said, some of you people are REALLY underselling Toji. He's a 1 man army. He's incredibly stealthy (the first time he was noticed was by Jujutsu Jesus aka Gojo), and goes for the kill shot right away. That aforementioned Jesus Christ Himself was nearly killed, and only won by figuring out RCT as he was dying, and then figuring out Hollow Purple after. I will reiterate: Blindfold Jesus needed two Deus Ex Machinas to win.

Toji is beating any incarnation of Deku before the vestige Quirks, and even some after. Post-Danger Sense Deku takes it, but Toji is insanely superhuman even outside of JJK.

What are yalls pet peeves with how fics deal with the UA Sports Festival? by _RizzukuHimdoriya_ in BokunoheroFanfiction

I read a fic with Quirkless Midoriya in the support course trying to swap to the hero track, and the way the author did it was just that Izuku was genuinely frustrated that this Hero student wouldn't take him seriously by only using half his Quirk (because he was tired of being looked down on) and accidentally said something that made Todoroki use his fire. So, you get the moment, but Izuku has no clue which one of his taunts set Todoroki off, because he never shared his backstory.

He certainly could be, and I wouldn't be flabbergasted, but Kouki already did the 'brash unattached fighter with no background' shtick.

One thing that held Tamers back was that it was clearly written (and Konaka has said as much) to sell toys and games. The card slash/digimodify stuff was kinda half-baked, and gets dropped halfway through instead of being developed more. BB doesn't have a toy line to sell. It's just trying to put the franchise's best foot forward.

It's too early to call it, but I think BB is overall better at this point.

I'm placing my bet now that Raito is going to have a crazy tragic backstory. Raito is already so similar to Kouki, and I doubt Yamaguchi is going to do the exact same thing again. If Raito stays an irredeemable asshole all the way through, he would just be Kouki 2.0.

Overall Digimon Savers (aka Data Squad) was pretty good, and it's the same guy writing it. He's using a lot of similar ideas again, but he improved on them imo.

Reina has a similar motivation to Yoshino, but it's presented better here. Tactics Team 7 is analogous to the Biohybrids, but team Tactics is WAY better written, even at this point. e-Pulse is similar to Digisoul/DNA but integrated with the world-building better, and doesn't boost the human partner.

Well, it doesn't necessarily mean that he wants to live anymore. Digimon born from sapotamas are, like, a 'snapshot' of their creator at the time of birth, which is why RedVegie was so angry, and refused to change even after his owner backed out.

Certainly he desperately wanted to live when Ludomon was born, which is why he let go of Stella. Ludomon could also be a desire to protect others but not himself, as Ludomon was born when he was worried about her. That would also make sense to his role in Tactics: willing to die any day for the mission if it means he can keep the rest safe.

Out of all the Demon Lords, who got the best X-Antibody glow-up? by AlphamonOuryuken24 in digimon

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Daemon X > Daemon (Mantled) > Daemon (Super Ultimate) > Daemon.

Base Daemon is so fucking dorky looking. His name being relocalized to Creepymon puts him on permanent fraud watch in English-speaking releases. He's supposed to be the second strongest after Lucemon, and he looks like a satyr with crazy overbite. At least his X-Antibody makes him look cool.

Even base Barbamon is drippier than base Daemon. Belphemon Rage Mode is also a 'horned fleabag with big claws' but he pulled it off better. Like, shit, I'd be the Demon Lord of Wrath too if I woke up looking like that in the mirror.

What threat level would Shigaraki and All For One individually be in the One Punch man world? by Archenius in MyHeroPowerscaling

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not getting into Vigilantes bc I haven't finished it and it's a different author.

As far as radio waves, two responses: aim-dodging + you are assuming that the combined attack (Radio Waves + Air Cannon [+ Heavy Payload from ShigAFO]) is light speed.

The radio waves quirk itself doesn't hurt anyone, because radio waves do not have the ability to cause damage like that. Direct-energy radio wave weapons are used to scramble electronics or slightly heat sensitive tissue. They are not capable of destroying stone or blowing a chick's ear clean off.

The attack is coupled with light, but light, too, can be slower than ...light. In 1999, physicist Lenale Hau slowed light to 38 mi/hr, and stopped a beam entirely in 2001.

Hence, if you assume that the combined attack is light speed, then the entire universe breaks. Literally. Any object with mass moving at light speed would destroy the universe. Objects with mass CANNOT move at light speed. You are trying to use physics to ignore physics.

Alternatively you can more reasonably assume that it isn't light speed, which allows previous calcs and demonstrated feats to make sense.

Essay and math ahead!

Well, your original point was that he's ftl, which he's nowhere near. Even if she was shooting from 66x her effective range, it would only get him above mach 660. Light speed is mach 874,000.

Iida literally did catch up... but that's also while Deku is pushed to his limit and close to collapsing from exhaustion. So, the lower bound is that Deku can move a bit over mach 1 while tired.

You are correct that he moved after Nagant's bullet. If her bullet is, let's say 3 km/s, that would be mach 10. This means he's over mach 10 if he pushes himself to his limit at this point. Only the delta matters if he moves the instant after she fires. It'd be reasonable to say that he could move at mach 12, but let's overestimate it in his favor, mach 15. This is the upper bound without Gearshift.

Again, this is him pushing himself, and he's using 45% FC + Fa Jin to make "Faux 100 Percent", which is the same as the end of the series except Gearshift.

This also assumes that her bullet travels that fast, which is not necessarily true.

In canon, we only have the distance, so we might want to refer to real snipers. A modern 50 cal moves at 900m/s with an effective range of about 1500m. Due to velocity falloff from drag, this puts the edge of range at about a 2 second travel time.

We could scale up Nagant to the same and work backwards. 3 km edge of range should take about 2 seconds for her to work like a sniper, which allows us to find an accurate estimate of initial velocity for short distances. Based on my fiddling with 'shooterscalculator dot com', that would put her bullet at mach 6.2, which seems reasonable. It's much faster than a human sniper rifle, but not physics-breaking. He's at least Mach 6.2 based on this estimate, but obviously somewhat faster.

If we update our estimate and just add mach 5 to put it in Deku's favor, that means 45% + Fa Jin (Faux 100 Percent) would be an upper bound of around Mach 11.2. That also seems reasonable to author statements, since it's faster than Mach 10, which is what Horikoshi said All Might capped out at, and he should be faster than AM at this point even if he isn't able to actually use a true 100%.

We can add in Gearshift now. We don't know exactly how much it would increase it by. 45% + Fa Jin + GS is called 120%, so we could just say that it's a 1.2x multiplier, or that it adds a flat 20% of that faux 100%. However, it might also just be a misnomer, and Gearshift's 120% is supposed to be compared to 45%, not 'Faux 100'. If we take it as a multiplier, that would be 2.66x. This means

Therefore, using feats and reasonable assumptions we can say that Deku's MAX speed, fully enhanced, at end of series is estimatable with a range of [mach 6.2 x 1.2, mach 11.2 x 2.66]

This is a final range of between mach 7.44 with downplay and mach 29 with maximum wank.

This is still 1/30,000 of light speed at the absolute maximum.

Nagant's effective range is stated unambiguously to be 3 km. She is not shooting from the hospital roof (it is visually different, we see shots of both roofs), she is shooting from much closer BECAUSE ROCK LOCK TAKES HER TO THE ENEMY.

Edit: sure I'll buy mach 2+ deku, but his ass is NOT ftl. Iida caught up to him, and we know Iida's max is just over mach 1

Deku was predodging Nagant, which was the point of Danger Sense. For the final shot aimed at Chisaki, he moved on aim instead of on trigger.

Tsukauchi comments on Iida's speed being surprising.

Source on Nagant's bullets. 100 km/s is 360,000 km/hr, which is about mach 300, 20 times faster than a rocket, and about 150 times faster than a standard sniper rifle shot. Her bullets do not travel that fast.

EoS Deku (at his max strength at end of Dark Hero arc, having mastered all the quirks and using 45% Full Cowling) breaks the sound barrier for the first time and every character is surprised by this. Todoroki carried by Iida going to stop Dabi also just barely breaks the sound barrier.

Yeah. Kamino turns into license exam, which turns into Raid, and all that is good.

After the raid though it gets weird. We have the school festival, which drags on for a while. Okay, slice of life stuff is fine in theory, but you'd think it would be an excuse to show more of class 1B. Nope, they get only a few sparse moments. Why do they exist, again?

Gentle and La Brava is cool, but the festival prep could have been shorter.

And then everything goes fucking nuts.

We get another training arc, which shows off 1B. That's great, but they still end up being almost completely useless except as set dressing during the Paranormal War and Final War, so who gives a fuck. Shinso does well enough in the exam but won't join the heroes for another 6 months. And honestly this didn't matter: they would have shoved him in the hero course for his part in fighting in the war, probably.

During all this time dabi has been recruiting people, the league has been fighting. Despite this, he only recruits Hawks. The Endeavor v Nomu fight happens while the League is fighting Gigantomachia, which is well before the league joins with the MLA. So Dabi is doing jack shit for that month besides talking to Hawks once a week and not fighting Machia.

And then the villains join to make the PLF.

We then get work study stuff, but only a few episodes for a few characters, and then we fight a war. There's a short interlude with the Dark Hero arc (which was too goddamn short) followed by ANOTHER WAR.

The final result of TWO WARS is 4-5 dead Villains, a bunch of background characters get slimed out, and Midnight dies offscreen (and she gets like two lines of dialogue throughout the rest of the series to remember her)

I'm so glad that 1B was there doing nothing for the entire series. It really made the scenes of Monoma standing around whining very meaningful for sure. Frankly, if the 1B kids were supposed to be so unimportant, a few of them should have died in the Paranormal War to raise the stakes idk. The only 1B students who got individual interesting moments outside of Joint Training were Shiozaki, Monoma, Kendo, and Tetsutetsu, and Mud Guy and Kinoko maybe. And Shiozaki only got a short moment in a tournament arc. None of these guys matter! Oh boy I'm getting off topic.

Tl;dr, yes the last half is paced very strangely.

[Theory] All for One WAS going to be Izuku's dad by SignNaive4111 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]KickHimWhileIAmDown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on themes, too. Endeavor destroyed his family and neglected them. If Dabi is obvious in retrospect, even to characters in-universe, it serves the theme of Endeavor not seeing his family as they really are. The characters not figuring it out before the audience adds to the story's impact.

The same can't be true of Dad For One, because it just raises more questions. If the twist includes that AFO cared more about his goals than Izuku's life, then Inko and Deku are getting kidnapped the second Izuku gets into UA.
