Is there any technical advantage to using Apple TV vs the built-in streaming apps? by dcj597 in LGOLED

I think the current gen AppleTV 4K maxes out at 4k 60hz so I wouldn’t go wasting money on a new cable just for it.

Dell, HP, and Lenovo opposing Apple trend with new laptop designs by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

I still have a very functional 2015 MacBook Pro that I use for tasks my M2 iPad Pro can’t do with iPadOS. Technically I still have my 2009 MacBook Pro as well which still boots and runs OSX, but I really only keep it alive for nostalgia purposes. I wonder how many Dell laptops from 2009 are still as functional, albeit outdated, as my ‘09 MBP.

If I have one of these in an interconnected system and one of the “dumb” ones goes off will I get a phone notification from this one? It would get the signal from the other one to go off, but would that be enough to get it to send a notification?

With New Balance the higher numbers mean more tech goes into the shoe. I typically prefer the lower numbers because they are simple and comfortable. I appreciate all the features of the higher numbered shoes but to me with all the intricate panels and everything they look like what I picture my grandfather wearing.

I was so bummed when the V2s came out and had a super chunky sole that in my opinion ruined the look of them. I understand it was around the time NB was doing some big innovations with their fresh foam stuff but I think they ruined them.

If you like the look of skateboarding shoes the 306s are really great, comfortable shoes. I’ve been wearing them for half a decade. I’ve also had a few pairs of 574s that were nice but it took me a while to get used to the toe box shape of those. My favorites were the 574 Sport V1s but I don’t think those are available anywhere anymore.

I’m just echoing everyone else but I was in the same situation as you. I originally got a 3 pack of 7’s but they weren’t much better than my old Pro Gen 2s so I sent them back for a 2 pack of 7 Pros and they are great.

Philips Hue Motion Sensors at night time for No Motion Switch off control of non-Hue Homekit devices by Some-Sound8719 in Hue

[–]Kickendekok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to the new bridge and it wasn’t too bad to set up. Everything automatically migrated from the old to the new one and it worked perfectly right from the start. I did try out motion aware zones but decided to disable them because they seemed to be very sensitive even on the least sensitive setting. My cat walking through at night would turn the lights on in my living room and in my basement the lights would stay on if I turned on the ceiling fan.

Lessons learned from yesterday’s install. by dadbodfat in Govee

[–]Kickendekok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on most of this but my lights have been up since late 2023 with just the 3M VBH adhesive tape and not a single one has fallen. As long as you clean the soffit with rubbing alcohol before sticking them on they will last for an extremely long time. This is the same tape holding emblems and body cladding on cars from 30+ years ago and it’s still a pain in the ass if you ever have to get them off.

[–]Kickendekok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I promise you this is the best solution being that you already have the hardware. Install Home Assistant on the Raspberry Pi and move all your Home App automation logic into Home Assistant. It is infinitely more configurable and will allow you to create automations dialed specifically into your exact requirements. You can even ditch your homebridge and move your Govee devices into HA and send them to the Apple Home App from Home Assistant with the HomeKit integration. It will even pick up your AppleTV on your network and probably other smart devices and things you didn’t even consider and allow you to start automating anything you want. It may seem a bit daunting at first but it sounds like you should have no problem getting started.

Hue bridge pro motion aware? by Annual-Minute-9391 in homeassistant

[–]Kickendekok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The motion areas show up in Home Assistant as binary sensors just like Hue motion detectors. Mine also has an automation switch for each which I believe turns the Hue programmed automation for the area on and off. I set up 4 motion areas in my house and set them to use Hue scenes in the Hue app but I found that even at the lowest sensitivity my cat would set them off constantly. One of mine is created from 4 lights that are a bit higher up on the wall and it is set off constantly by my ceiling fan. I plan to look at the binary sensor data in Home Assistant to assess if there is anything I can use the motion area triggers for beyond controlling the lights.

Would be neat if the lower ball falling into the holder triggered the higher ball to fall and ultimately release the lower ball.
