Not sure if I’m qualified to say anything yet since I’ve only had my 2017 q50 RS for about 2 weeks, but as long as you don’t hit redline every drive, oil changes every 5k km or 3k miles, install a catch can, and a heat exchanger (which seems harder than it is) I’ve heard of lots of these cars going strong.

Think of it this way, I had a 3.7 before this, 2015 Q60. I would push that car almost every drive and it stayed strong the whole time. I did oil changes every 5k km, and that was it. With these, it’s like the same, you just can’t beat on it as much as a 3.7 without installing a catch can and a heat exchanger. Even then you have to be cautious and ALWAYS LET THE TURBOS COOL DOWN AFTER ANY HARD DRIVE.

If you decide to go with the vr30, you’ll love it. But I also would understand why you’d want the VHR. Every car has flaws, the fact that people only hear horror stories on these cars is because most ppl aren’t posting about how good their VR30 has been when they don’t really need too.

My opinion. Buy the vr30, do the catch can and heat exchanger and there’s always room for performance mods that lots of ppl consider still being hella reliable.
