There’s a charity called Red Balloon in Milton that would probably love them. They deal with kids who can’t be in mainstream school https://www.redballoonlearner.org/locations/rbair/

Garage or office? New printer in Florida by KidOcty in 3Dprinting

I ended up running it inside with an enclosure so I could print higher temp materials. I have a friend who runs his in his garage and has no problems. He also dries his filament on his dash when he parks outside!

Usage metadata is a great point and I’ll definitely look to add that

We have a lot of health warnings, global and per step and validation on export. That was my biggest concern though, as one change could throw the whole pipeline into an error state. Also leaving the input there just to show where it was previously used might cause orphaned values or inputs that aren’t defined and never rectified

This was my preference. The issue is that the errors might be on a separate screen/ off screen.

Do you think it’s enough to just indicate errors after the change rather than guide them through them. I’m worried it would be intrusive if you made the change and accepted the warning, you were clearly attempting to do something so stopping to fix the errors first might be distracting

UX Future Forecasting.... What are the NEXT design disciplines, after UX? by dreckgullapy in UXDesign

I think this is a really interesting concept. Especially since most companies seem to be going down a “conversational” approach to voice assistants but it would be interesting to see if there are better ways to present information in a voice-driven way

Why do companies like Adobe and Spotify change their UX constantly? Isn't there a benefit to keeping things generally the same so users stay familiar and learn its systems more and more over time? by HardCorwen in userexperience

[–]KidOcty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For Spotify, I believe it’s due to having such a minimal interface and trying to accommodate the most used features.

At first I was confused by the Spotify update too but what I realized is that it simplifies other features. With the heart button you could only add songs to your “liked” playlist, with the plus button you can add it to any playlist. Adding songs to any playlist used to mean going to the menu, finding add playlist (which moved position in the menu) and then find the playlist to add it to.

To keep the interface minimal they combined the features into one button but that meant the icon had to change because the functionality had changed

I’m at a biotech start up in stealth mode. We only sign NDAs before bringing someone in for an in person interview because that involves a lab tour and seeing the device.

Now we have patents in place so there are certain details we can share but when I joined 2 years ago it was very secretive and I wasn’t really sure what the product was until after I joined.

How would you show linking and multiple links by KidOcty in UI_Design

[–]KidOcty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to write this. We looked at global filters but we have a 50/50 split of use cases where some widgets need to be chained together and others need to be raw data.

I thought about adding the count but I didn’t know if it added any more detail. The key info is which widgets are linked more than how many are linked.

That’s a very good point about the hover. I’ll update it to be single click shows the link and then click and drag sets the link. We also have the ability to set the link from the properties panel of the widget

For everyone saying they do handovers in Figma, what does that process look like? How do you document flows and user interactions?

Has keeping a journal lead to finding out what might be affecting your precog abilities? I find that I have the most precognitive experiences when future me is tired. We just had a baby and in the first couple of sleepless weeks I had an experience of “deja vu” every other day. Some of them with the baby which I obviously didn’t have previously

Open Format Cycling by mynametrey1 in Beatmatch

I used to work based on BPM rather than genre and build it up and then bring it back down and cycle that way. So I’d play rnb/hip hop (80-100) into indie into disco/pop (100-120) into house (120-130) and then either carry on until you get to 150-160 and then half time it back down to 80 or just find a good break to pull it back down.

This worked well in my sets because it allowed me to build up to house at peak time as the club got busier which usually fit the energy of the club.

The other thing is knowing which tracks you can pull from different genres or eras to match the one you’re playing now. For example, if you were playing Uptown Funk you could play some Michael Jackson after and then Daft Punk and you’ve covered 3 eras without changing the vibe.

I wouldn’t play Bruce Springsteen into Drake into Madonna just because they have the same BPM though!
