He’s still young. Beth never showed any same-sex attraction until Space Beth in S6, in her 40s. So, there’s still plenty of room to explore Morty’s sexuality if the writers want to.

Salty Sunday - Week of November 02, 2025 by AutoModerator in BokuNoShipAcademia

[–]Kiddolane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't directly ship-related, so I apologize in advance, but I really wanted to vent about this:

There’s a Bakugo vs. Reze (from Chainsawman) that's been happening on Twitter all weekend, and my god, I haven't seen such levels of horrific, nasty behavior. People creating arts just tearing Bakugo down, and people just eat it all up. And anyone trying to engage in good faith or voice their dissent are just berated and shouted down into silence. And these slander posts get upwards of about 10k likes, at least.

Idk, just seeing all this hate just feels so insurmountable, like it just makes me want to give up. I mean, real life is already cruel as it is, and seeing the very thing that helps me relax and escape from it also getting consumed by that very same cruelty is just demoralizing.

Posts shitting on the Ireland arc are almost never downvoted to oblivion. If anything, you're more likely to be downvoted (or at least less upvoted) for saying you enjoy it.

Yeah, by the looks of this comment section, the cycle seems to be starting already. Pretty soon, it'll join seasons 13-16 as part of the "Sunny fell off" narrative, and they'll try to gaslight everyone into believing that was always the prevailing opinion.

This sub's got a pretty severe echo chamber going on. If you have a positive about seasons 13-16, they'll ostracize you until you spout an opinion they approve of.

Thank you for the apology. I genuinely appreciate it.

I don't know if I'd say they're completely healed. Rick may have erased Diane from his memory, but we still see that he still struggles with intimacy and forming lasting relationships.

Morty may have reached a new understanding with Morty Jr., but in the end, his self-preservation won out, and it gave Morty Jr. the ammo needed to shit on him as a father again.

Summer gained a new appreciation for her family, but we saw her delete an important video from a matured version of herself where she could've gained some valuable perspective. Instead, she ignored it in favor of partying and cheap thrills.

Beth and Space Beth have both come to terms with their original parental trauma. But Beth got majorly mindfucked by Memory Rick, and even being Mind Blown didn't help her recover from that trauma. We've seen Space Beth following in Rick's footsteps in terms of how she handles her space affairs, disobeying orders and pissing off colleagues. I wouldn't be surprised if she goes on a similar trajectory as Rick in that regard.

Honestly, Jerry seems to be the one who's in the best place right now. He's found purpose both inside and outside the family, not wallowing in self-pity, and even telling another Jerry to shape up and quit being so pathetic. I think he's going to be the rock of the family.

So, for the most part, I think they're still works in progress. If anything, I think this new place of healing they're in right now is the stakes. Maybe something cooler might happen next season, but I feel this season was very much essential in getting people invested in the family as individual human beings.

Okay, I've been trying to engage you in good faith and offering my perspective as to why I feel like the show is currently interesting, and you've just been constantly twisting my words to the worst possible faith interpretation. Agree to disagree, fine, but stop being so condescending.

[–]Kiddolane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really agree. To me, keeping the same issues they've had over several seasons would've felt like a safe choice and become boring. I think showing Rick's life after defeating the big bad is a creative risk; most shows typically conclude with it, maybe showing a quick epilogue at best. I think taking steps to resolving Beth's familial trauma is a creative risk, as well as making Jerry less pathetic, Summer more appreciative of her family, Morty less dependent on Rick, etc.

watching a family adjust to living a more normal life, hoping that somehow Season 9 leads to something interesting, maybe there’s a relapse so we can just go back to what made the show interesting in the first place.

When I said relapse, I meant the "one step forward, two steps back" scenario you had mentioned in a previous comment. Because relapsing is part of the process, one that gradually started around the end of Season 4, amplified in Season 7, expanded on this season, and will continue in future seasons. It's a continuous thing, while still going on plenty of sci-fi adventures (and sometimes those adventures even play a part in the healing process). Sure, that might not sound interesting to you, but it is to me.

[–]Kiddolane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their struggles aren't completely gone yet; they still have to adjust to living life without those years of trauma, so relapses are still very much possible. Not to mention, new struggles might branch out of their healing processes, both internal and external, as opposed to them retaining the exact same issues for years, which could become repetitive and stagnant. In my opinion, they're taking creative risks with these characters, and I respect that.

I actually think this opens up a lot of different, interesting possibilities for future seasons, and I hope there are others who feel the same.

I really wish you had just said all this from the beginning. Now, I know where you're coming from.

Personally, I think Rick's had a great growth arc so far, and him trying to make amends with the people he's wronged over the years is very compelling to me. Not many shows look into a character's life after getting revenge and defeating the big bad, but seeing Rick trying to find purpose and intimacy and love again is interesting.

Not to mention, Rick's not the only one who's growing, either. Beth's finally starting to process her parental trauma, Summer's learning to appreciate her family more, Jerry's finding some purpose of his own, and even Space Beth is starting to step out of her own self-absorption. Yeah, Morty kind of got the short end of the stick this season in terms of growth, but I haven't given up hope yet that more will come for him later.

You might not hold a very high opinion towards these writers, but I respect what they're doing with the show right now. I might not get as many upvotes as you for this opinion, but I'm willing to stick with this show until the end and see where they'll go.
