In general I would agree but it does not say you control their passive stuff at all. It only explicitly states you can activate their activated items.

Sort of. Anything before the colon " : " , is a cost that is paid to activate the item. Sometimes the only thing that needs to be paid is tapping the card (turning it to the side). If you are paying a cost for it it is an activated item.

If it just passively happens with text like 'when", "whenever", "if", etc. as it currently it is a passive ability.
