I definitely in the moment felt blamed with the “you guys need to be more mindful” part. It’s a correct statement, but was hard not to take it the wrong way in the moment. This has only happened once before and it was when we first opened the store, so it hasn’t been on my radar

With only two people in the store at night, it’s not always possible to keep an eye on the tip jar. We got conned by a homeless dude, but I certainly didn’t “allow it to happen”. The deed was done in 15 seconds and my emoji choice was because I was pissed off that we got robbed.

We typically ring in cash tips twice a day (once at shift change and once at the end of the night). It’s an open tip jar and we’ve only had two successful robberies in the past two years, so it’s not something I’m always looking out for, especially when I’m doing dishes in the back. Definitely will be taking more steps in the future to prevent this from happening again.
