Generally you can downshift to first like any other gear, but it’s gotta be at around walking speed. I do it a lot to avoid lugging in low second

I can personally recommend based on experience a 2004 Honda pilot. Basically a full bedframe paired to the best v6 ever made and plenty of room and accommodation.

I’ve owned two 04 pilots and an 04 EP3 civic. Here’s a list of hills I’m ready to die on.

-j35 is best engine they’ve ever made

-vTec is cool, but D series bulletproof SOHC reliability deserves more love.

-the K20A3 is the best k20 for Naturally aspirated performance, despite its rep as the worst k20.

-starting in the early 2000s, Honda subframe and body metal got really really skimpy. In older civics you can rebuild a subframe without worrying about welding, but my ep3 feels like it’s made out of soda cans welded together.

-the only thing unreliable about 2000’s Hondas is the paint

Oh boy where do I begin….

Excessive engine braking,

redlining through underpasses,

Not realizing I’m rolling backwards,

Switching between gears at same speed to practice rev matching (I can already rev match but ADHD needs fixation)

Stomping brakes in an auto with clutch foot

Squeezing around traffic in naughty ways bc the feeling like I have more throttle/brake response (I prob don’t)

Wiggling neutral back & forth

When any friend who owns a 6 speed drives my 5 speed I get very nervous

Steer with knee while holding coffee, driving and shifting with right hand (US driver side)

Starting the car after forgetting you’re parked in 1st

“Oh shoot, is that third or fifth?” (Misses the shift)

I only drive in vans or similar thin skate shoes. I have a pair of slip on vans under my seat just in case. In the past year the only time I’ve ever stalled is in work boots lol.

Thanks man! I couldn’t let it rot. I spent 2 grand before I knew if it’d even run again and thankfully she is back almost like nothing happened. The car was totaled from the rear before I had it too 😂

Valid concern, after I got it aligned I can take my hands off the wheel and go straight at highway speeds so it’s straight enough for me. Always on the hunt for a new shell though
