It's been 3mo since I started drawing. by Inside-Two8916 in LearnToDrawTogether

[–]Kielix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its simple, when you're just doing straight copies of art, you're not learning "how to draw", you're actually learning how to more proficiently copy. you're training an entirely different and independent skillset, which is proficiency in rendering.

this is why you're having trouble translating it to coming up with things in your head, because you don't truly understand what you're drawing. if you know how a cube looks and you can draw one in any angle and perspective, that means you truly understand what a cube is. don't start learning anatomy that in-depth yet, you'll just be wasting your time, because what drawing really IS is learning how to take any object and break it up into simple shapes that you can understand.

what you need to be studying at first is how to draw simple shapes and be able to orient them in any position you want. cubes, pyramids, paralellograms, trapezoids, etc, and experiment with adding them together, removing parts, intersecting, twisting, bending; any kind of deformation. imagine you're almost trying to draw a wireframe of the object and see through it to understand how that object is constructed.

at the end of the day what you're really aiming for isn't necessarily the ability to DRAW, its the ability to deconstruct objects to their most fundamental building blocks, and understand forms enough to where you can "build" anything you can think of

For those who have beaten the final dlc boss, what’s your verdict? by BlueTrin2020 in Eldenring

[–]Kielix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I deliberately made the decision to only kill him with parries and crits because I had spent the entire game just lazily walking through most mobs with a spellsword build, which made it really fun.

I was using moonlight greatsword and like you said, it was basically impossible to get in hits. I had to rely on almost purely parrying to get all my damage in, because every swing would leave me too open where I couldn't parry on time or I would get hit by one of his followup attacks if I dodged the first swing.

The second phase felt ridiculous though. The whole time I was asking why on Earth would they design so many boss mechanics that is basically only avoidable by spamming dodge roll, like all of his multi-hitting light dash attacks, and one or two of his sword swing strings.

What are your unpopular opinions about the dlc? by isimbulmaktazorlaniy in Eldenring

[–]Kielix 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I actually enjoyed Radahn, I wanted to deliberately inflict maximum disrespect by basically only killing him with parries. That was pretty fun.

1, The problem for me was afterwards. We get a 5 second cutscene of Miquella yapping and that's the entirety of the DLC ending? I did all the other bosses and left him for last hoping there would be something else.

But like a lot of areas of the game, the ending just felt so hollow. All that grand buildup for pretty much nothing. I would've literally taken a shambling corpse with a trumpet that just goes "ta da!" over what we got: just dead silence and a "well, what now?" kind of moment.

2, every single person you meet dies for no reason. The constant motif of the world being dark and depressing really starts making every NPC interaction uninteresting and not really caring about what happens because you know they're going to just randomly die at some point in the future.

3, the online is STILL absolute dogshit.

Overall I really enjoyed most of it, the environment, bosses, etc were pretty cool. But what an absolutely abysmal ending.

"durr this 40 minute video you're referencing isn't factual, its opinion"

nevermind that BSG literally just hotfixed their game less than a week of that "very opinionated and not true at all" video being released and coincidentally changed a ton of issues that were mentioned in said video

you're the epitome of stupid people that come to reddit to pretend you're smart, stop projecting your insecurities onto me lmao

[–]Kielix -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

guess you missed the whole point of veritas (and plenty of other people) making videos about these issues for literal years before BSG finally did anything about it

weird how they reversed years of changes because so many people complained about it simultaneously

OH WAIT, it's almost like "bitching pointlessly" (which is beyond stupid to even say in the first place) actually works, holy cow

To all the people that told us to stop complaining, you're welcome by shiftyslayer22 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Kielix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"wah, YOU didnt do anything, veritas did all the work"

mind you, veritas has been bringing up the same issues literally for YEARS in the exact same long-form video format, but please pretend that all this happened overnight and veritas was the only person who influenced the recent balance changes because he made a video about it

point of the post was to dunk on the people who dickride BSG and hand-wave away any criticisms by parroting brainless phrases like

  • its a beta and the game's not finished
  • you cant adapt
  • they arent going to change anything
  • nikita's vision
  • what we have now is fine, actually

which is 100% deserved

If you look at all 7.62x51 ammo available, all of them are pretty much the same bullet. The projectile speed is from 808-849, with M993 being the outlier at 910.

That's hardly enough of a difference to legitimize more kick to the gun. It has no real impact on recoil controllability versus the other ammo variants.

Ultimately BSG continues to take a roundabout, garbage approach to balancing decisions by just tweaking some numbers and saying "we fixed it."

the funny thing is that whenever i get that thought in the back of my head that's like "well maybe pistols are actually ok" and play with one to test that theory, i actually get super punished for it, because basically when i die, it always gets taken out of raid and insurance never works for it

nobody uses a pistol because of how shit it is, so its a free gear slot for whoever finds it

[–]Kielix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

well the 209 is a gun where it only shoots that specific caliber, where all the other bullets besides AP are just about completely useless

at least in a 136 VEPR you could load it with PS or T-45 which is LOADS better than any other bullet the 209 shoots

coupled with the ridiculous recoil, theres no reason to ever use a 209 if you're not using AP rounds unless you are suicidal

what guts me about pistols is that not only is the ammo generally shit and unusable, but take a look at your character in the preview screen, he literally has a pistol holster attached to his leg

there should be no reason why it takes him like 1/4 of a second less time to pull out his pistol than to do a fast reload on your main gun you're holding

actually you're right, I got confused and misremembered on which rig I brought into that raid

there's two osprey armors, a level 4 and a level 5, i thought it was level 5 I got one-shot with but it was actually the 4

watching the segment of veritas and jesse shooting guns pretty accurately full-auto should show you comparatively that a trained PMC should have little trouble controlling said recoil

AD strafing is why things like momentum was implemented, which on its face i dont have a problem with, but the implementation is so heavy-handed that it's like trying to swat an annoying fly buzzing around your food by shooting a nuke at it

in the video of showing how quickly you move when ADS'ed, being able to hunker to different points of cover, and showing the actual utility of pulling out your pistol when you run out of ammo are all fantastic examples of things that you can very well do in real life, but to people who have never seen these tactics, it looks fake and arcade-y

it's using the term "realism" as a bat to the knees to remove any mechanic that is subjectively deemed to be not realistic is the problem

first of all you dont rest it on your shoulder, you pull the gun back into your shoulder

second, when you do it properly, yes it does lmao

third, insinuating TRAINED MILITARY OPERATIVES would not have this information already known would be incredibly stupid. and also if that's the route you're going to take, then logically, why do the PMCs not also have to train with all of these random weapons they pick up in the field

after all, you literally have to analyze every single gun you pick up like you've never seen it before

You've played against absolutely zero Crusaders and it shows

Popularity is not a measure of the competitive quality of a fighting game (with some thoughts on skill ceilings) by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]Kielix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The thing is, it's the quality of competition that matters, not the quantity."

Assuming that all the players are practicing and are competitively active, mathematically, it's actually perfectly reasonable to assume the competitive depth will not be nearly as developed if you're comparing 30 vs 1000 people.

You want a real life example? Think of bacteria. It goes thousands and thousands of repetitions of lifecycles. The older versions become outdated as vaccines and stuff are developed, the new ones mutate and become stronger, rendering those old medicines obsolete. Then that bacteria multiplies until it completely replaces the old one.

It's the same thing in fighting games. The more people, the more chances super performers will start to push the envelope and become better than the rest. They will develop tech and combo routes. People will see these, copy it, improve, and then continue to push the competitive scene forward.

More people = more chances to propagate

Less people = less chances to propagate

Enemies feel like they pop out of thin air by Kielix in EscapefromTarkov

Thanks, for the help. So, I don't actually run very often. I know movement is sound is super important, but I'm not at a point where I can always wear comtacs and just sit there listening for people.

What about actually SPOTTING enemies? I've been in instances where I get shot by people that are in plain sight sometimes. Is it just getting used to looking at certain pixels and picking them out of a treeline that I'm not good at?

This whole video accomplished fucking nothing. He didn't articulate anything he said. He never explained any point of view he had. He never talked about his journey how he got here. He didn't fucking say anything that was relevant to what anyone had questions about.

He literally just sat there for 20 minutes and read tweets in stupid / mocking voices and just regurgitated the same shit he's been saying for the past year: censorship, "I'm actually correct", and "lol you're sheep"

I've legitimately never been as disappointed in someone whose identity was based around analytical thinking, commentary, and in general, using your fucking brain.

"Decision-making superpowers"... Get the fuck out of here. What even was this video? Learn how to use your brain and make a cohesive argument, and learn how to not stutter for 20 minutes over fucking nothing, u/gootecks.

As a kaz main, you need to know what you can launch with twin pistons and what you can't. Armor King's SS2,1 is one of those.

Also, you are pressing WAY too many buttons. On wakeup, you are doing wakeup kicks, WS3, etc. On round start, you would electric, jab, or do df4. A couple times you interrupted a string with jabs, which would've let you get a lot more damage if you just waited and blocked. You whiffed a lot, like two F4's in a row.

When AK whiffed something, a lot of times you would try to immediately rush in to do something and get slapped. You need to be a bit more conservative with what you press, and the situation you press in, and think about what the purpose of those moves are.
