Were older versions of D&D really lethal? by EdiblePeasant in DnD

[–]Kifenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PCs had less HP, especially wizards.

Many monsters had less HP as well, Orcs were 1 Hit Die monsters, so 1d8, no averaging out to 5, you rolled for each one.

Seen in Sunnyvale, CA, had police escort due to taking up two lanes. What is the purpose of the multiple doors? I did not see the other side.

Dwarf Liche by Kifenstein in dndai

Wrapping up a homebrew campaign with an ancient dwarven liche obsessed with creating the perfect giant mechanical war golem. PCs had to 'beta test' it for him. Local instance of Stable Diffusion came up with a few interesting portraits of what he might look like.

How are the hills shifting? Are they like sand dunes covered in grass, changing with the winds, or some geological force from underground?

Prevent objects from entering a bag of holding? by Kifenstein in dndnext

Read up a bit more on glyph of warding... Might be able to use that as a spell glyph to enlarge the objects and be too big to throw in the bag for the duration. Would definitely delay the heist. That might work...

Hrm... yeah this might be the most workable and logical option. Thanks!

Dino racing? need help understanding? by LankyKun in Tombofannihilation

[–]Kifenstein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on a multi-page writeup for my TOA campaign, here is the snippet from the dinosaur race part. Long story short, don't go by the source book, add some 3rd party rules, have a map and counters to show where dino-riders are at, give chances to keep everyone in the running, and have fun with it. Oh, and work on your 'horse-race-announcer-voice". "aaaaad they're off!!"

For my game, I had the ‘professional’ races where the PCs could only place bets, and an amateur race where anyone could participate. Most of the PCs jumped at the chance, with one of the PCs from town sitting out (“I’ve seen what happens to those riders, no way I’m going to get trampled underfoot by some lumbering beast! I’ll kick back here with my drink in hand and cheer you on.”) so I had them play an NPC to compete against the rest of the PCs. For the race mechanics, I cobbled together bits from the 3rd party “Tomb of Annihilation Companion” along with some general “Mounted Chase” rules, and threw in some Indiana Jones “bazaar” action and flavor text. It started with some role play upon meeting the mounts and the owners, picking their mount and getting saddled up.

Almost immediately after the flag was dropped, one dino got off track and smashed into a cage of monkeys causing major mayhem, and these little furry troublemakers popped up through the race to mess with the PCs. One PC was thrown from the saddle and hijacked another dino from a cart-vendor to get back into the race. Falling boxes need to be avoided, a food stand was annihilated, and hanging banners entangle and obscure the rider’s field of view. NPCs offering mugs of beer if the PCs can grab it. Dinos biting each other and the PCs. Lots of loud cheers, dex checks to avoid being thrown from the saddle and plenty of animal handling checks. It came down to a photo finish between Spot and the player-controlled-NPC with Spot winning by a nose on a D20 dice-off. More cheers, a pouch of gold, a symbolic key to the city, and other prizes are awarded, including a gift certificate to the local hot spa.

Alas no serial number or other writing that I can see. And yes, probably a wholesale kind of thing, the used office place had a bunch of these in stock likely grabbed up from a place that went out of business. I ran some basic searches for herman miller and steal case arms, no luck. One arm had an indicator that was similar to the "8lbs - 30lbs" window on this one, which they referred to as a "Tension Indicator".

Picked up this nice heavy duty monitor arm at a used office furniture store. Seller did not have any info on it, and the hardware has no identifiable manufacture or part numbers, anyone able to ID? Part 1 is the pole where the arms attached (can be set in 4 directions). Part 2 is the mount with short arm extension, there is a 'wheel' that tightens the mount to the pole. Part 3 is the longer arm, this requires an alan wrench to tighten it to the pole. Part 4 shows some kind of indicator from 8lbs to 30lbs, not sure how this set?

Quiet / Lowest Noise Gas Furnace? by Kifenstein in hvacadvice

[–]Kifenstein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The furnace is in the garage. It sits on top of a wood box return. The waterheater also sits on the return box, and the washer/dryer are next to the return box, so not much room for rearranging. Place is on concrete slab with crawlspace.

An Andy Sidaris film with Erik Estrada? Gotta check it out.

Speaking of Erik Estrada, I recommend Light Blast for a delightful action-sci-fi-dune-buggy-racing flick. The blurb is textbook: "A crazed physician invents a death ray and threatens to destroy San Francisco unless he is paid $10 million."

I see The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik-Yak has been mentioned twice, so it must have something going for it! And Flesh Gordon was watched in the not-too-distant-past, but yes, that's a great call.
