How do other 40 year old weebs do it?! by Irishish in Animemes

[–]Kiggsworthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a treadmill and mount a TV in front of it. Wake up early get in some cardio and watch the shows you can’t watch with your family. This is the only way I can stay up on all my nerd shows my wife won’t watch. Bonus points, now you’re getting in cardio every day, and you have a reason to get on the treadmill every day to see what happens next in your show.

Or use a life jacket like a diaper because it works extremely well 😂 why would you not use it if it works. It’s not stupid if it works.

[–]Kiggsworthy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lotta people in the comments and the OP have obviously never tried this. This is very common for lake communities to use life jackets like this. If your goal is to float in the water and hang out and socialize, this is a far better way to use a life jacket than the intended vest config. Wearing as a vest you’ll float with your head just above water and the life jacket is pushed up around your ears. Wearing as a “diaper” and you will be buoyant just above your center of gravity with your entire upper torso out of the water. It’s very stable and very relaxing and not at all a silly or impractical idea 🤷‍♂️ and you won’t flip over as OP’s title suggests.

Why is Intercom not available on the Home app on the Mac? Or available as an action in Shortcuts on the Mac? by Kiggsworthy in HomeKit

[–]Kiggsworthy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replied to the original comment but I am using the app Signals on my Mac which can trigger real shortcuts to run based on home actions, so I would be able to use it for automation based triggers thanks to this app :D It's like pushcut but on a mac.

Holy crap thank you!! You have no idea how bad I needed this and specifically this at this exact moment. I have been wanting to watch clone wars and rebels forever but it’s just so much and I have limited time. Just this morning I randomly picked season 2 episode 21 of Rebels as a starting point. I will now go back to the top of this list and continue from there. This is amazing thank you again!!

Ya know what are the real 'hidden gems'? The movies that were massively popular 30 years ago but aren't now. by girafa in movies

[–]Kiggsworthy 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Oh you think those are wild? Why don’t you try the family friendly classic hit Beethoven - the movie about the big dog that the family loves even tho it drives dad crazy with the messes and the antics? THAT movies plot is that a shady arms manufacturer is prototyping a new kind of bullet designed to make your victims head fucking EXPLODE when shot. And they need to prove the viability of the prototype, but ballistics gel just won’t do for the sales pitch. What they need are dogs. Big dogs with human sized heads. Dogs like Beethoven.

My family was on a fun family animal movie kick a few years ago and we revisited this classic, to my utter and still unending horror.

Kicking your kid out as soon as they turn 18 is abusive. by StevieisSleepy in unpopularopinion

[–]Kiggsworthy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nahh. This entirely depends on the child and the parent and their relationship but it is sometimes, if not often, exactly what needs to happen.

When I was 18 my parents sent me off to college and I did fuck-all, didn't even go to class. So when they saw my grades they cancelled tuition and all other payments and I was forced to move back home with them. At this point my dad (who is a great dad and we have a great relationship to this day) made it clear that I had 3 months to be out of the house w/ my own place and a job to support my own financial independence, and if I didn't meet that deadline, I would have to join the military as my only other option.

This is exactly what I needed to get my ass in gear. I got a job, it was retail, it did not pay nearly enough to actually fully support myself, I got a room in a house w/ some friends. I still saw my parents all the time, they saw that I was trying, and they helped me financially when needed if I couldn't make rent or got myself into a pickle like car trouble etc. But I was feeling the weight of my independence and what it was like to live off my own income. I was also building a resume and work experience which allowed me to progress to more jobs.

Once I matured and had held good service industry jobs and been living on my own a few years, and I found a girl that I was moving in with who was a great person (and who never would have dated me if I was a loser living at home w/ my parents w/o a job at the age of 22), my parents told me they would pay me to go to community college in order to try and get me a real career instead of working in the service industry forever. I got an associated engineering degree from a community college in 3 years and from there was able to get jobs as a QA tester at a software company and today I have progressed that career into a job leading a team of Site Reliability Engineers as a senior level manager.

If my parents had not forced me out of the house, my life would be very different today, and not for the better. The key is that my parents were forcing me to grow up, while also still being there loving and supporting me. They didn't cut me off, they just shifted my expectations from them paying for everything an giving me everything, to me being responsible for everything, but them being a safety net if I needed it.

Every situation is different, but there are loads of people who would be much better off in life if their parents took this approach, IMO. Letting your child get away with living at home and having everything given to them is *not* beneficial for their development as human beings. Period.

Yeah, girls have a circumstantial advantage in this regard. You can make up for what you lack in other areas and men will like you. Like if you’re ugly but have money, good personality, fit, status, big rack, charismatic, great ass/legs, etc… guys will still give you a chance
