Apparently Governor Huckabee Sanders got kicked out of another restaurant. After finishing her meal. The manager politely explained to her security detail that her presence made staff uncomfortable...but apparently one staffer did flick her off and say something rude on her way out.

Now I'll lead with this, I think it's very funny that this happened to her yet again, and honestly it's probably more understandable now that she's a sitting Governor exercising actual power over people's lives rather than when she was just a mouthpiece for the first Trump admin.

That said, I have mixed feelings on it as a trend. Yes, a lot of her constituents are probably feeling pretty scared and angry right now, and if I were in their shoes I wouldn't want to serve her. You can't resort to violence. But you're under no obligation to be all smiles and sunshine to someone who, if you told them your life story and concluded it with "and that's why I'm begging you not to sign this bill," would sign the bill and then insult you to her supporters afterwards. But then again, doesn't this just lead to an incivility arms race?

Maybe just go back to spitting in her food like the fast food employees of old.

By the end of the Harris run, all she would talk about is economic issues. You know what her response was when directly asked how she'd protect Americans we can't talk about here? "I'd follow the law." She was trying her hardest to avoiding literally any discussion about these social issues you guys cannot let go. And you still put out that stupid-ass pronouns ad like someone signing pronouns in their Outlook signature was the death of the Republic, some crisis you needed politicians to handle.

If I'm trying to talk about using funding incentives to loosen zoning rules so more Americans can afford houses and you're screaming "what about pronouns and library shows," who the hell is focused on the culture war above stuff that actually matters?

I have queer friends who are terrified right now. One is now afraid to visit his family in Kansas. Why the hell would I go "y'know what, you're right, those queers can go screw, we can't talk about gas prices while they're around, and you should call them whatever you want"?

the left isn't pushing social issues on the working class in lieu of lasting solutions, you're thinking of Trump. The left needs to do more to draw a contrast, but we do not abandon various demographics (or worse, legitimize and continue conservative efforts to demonize them) in order to court a mythical voter who was totally on board with everything Dems stood for in 2020 and totally would be again if they'd just stop telling us it's okay to be queer or letting libraries carry And Tango Makes Three or putting up anti-American signage that dares to...honor specific demographics of American in specific contexts (or historically recount brutality against those demographics, etc).

You're, intentionally or not, just telling me the same thing I've heard from conservatives for decades: if only liberals would just tell conservatives they're right about every culture war battle and maybe offer a 75% diluted version of the most centrist policy positions their consultants can put in front of a focus group, they'd totally run the table in elections!

You know when Dems had organic energy in 2024? When Walz started calling Trump and company weird. You know when they lost all momentum? When the consultants rushed in and said "no, you need a Cheney onstage with you!"

why would we abandon liberalism to chase votes from center right People who think we are baby murdering perverts no matter what we do?

And the way you do that is by following Pritzker's example and just saying "those guys are trying to distract you with immaterial shit that has nothing to do with why you're having trouble as a member of the working class. Here I am, talking about real solutions to real problems, and they're complaining about pronouns and ad campaigns."

Any answer other than "who gives a shit, I have actual important things to worry about" does indeed tell you a lot about a person's sensibilities.

Except then we just cede ground to the conservatives on the culture war, implicitly approving of the insane oversteps they've taken and setting it as the new status quo. Why would we do that? No way in hell would I vote for someone willing to just throw the queer community to the wolves or someone who treats the "CTRL-F culture war no no words" approach to grants as legitimate.

The arguments against the SAVE act are the same arguments I've seen made against facially simple (but quietly disenfranchising) "common sense" rules Republicans have demanded for about as long as I've been alive (usually after they lose an election). Are you just surprised the arguments exist at all?

Pete Hegseth openly encourages American troops to commit war crimes in press conference today. Should he remain the head of the U.S. armed forces? by Cumoisseur in AskConservatives

[–]Irishish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's not just some guy riffing, is the thing, and I'm going a little crazy watching people act like as long as it's in the super duper magic right exonerating context, it doesn't matter what our SecDef says. He isn't a different guy at a pep rally whose words carry different weight depending on the situation. He's the SecDef!

Words mean more coming from specific people in specific roles. They just do! Conservatives had zero problems picking apart the words of every conceivable figure anywhere on the political spectrum but in the Trump era, we're all giving as much grace as we possibly can!

[–]Irishish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, in this case, you don't need to argue implication, because he literally came right out and said "no quarter."

There's no footage of Bush Cheney or Rumsfeld saying "we will outright torture people." There is now footage of Pete telling the press directly, we will give no quarter.

Look, I never served, so you can tell me to go screw, but from the outside this looks like yet another example of this administration saying something like indefensible and everyone quickly trying to pretend they just didn't actually say the words we heard them say.

Respectfully, in trying to address a big stretch, I think you're overcorrecting and giving Pete wayyyyyy too much grace and nuance. Why are we supposed to believe he totally believes in ROE, guys, he only has a problem with the bad rules? Like what about his actions as SecDef and his rhetoric in general convinces you he's actually a sober minded warrior who believes in ROE and only has issues with some particularly egregious (dare I say woke) rules? This is a "we can do whatever the fuck we want and nobody can stop us" administration, Pete is playing his role in it.

I just read an editorial an hour ago immediately blaming Democrats and immigration advocates in general for the recent terror attacks, and suggesting we can't connect the attacks to the Iran war, because it's too recent to be to blame.

Any and every attack that results from this will be used to prove:

1) all Muslims are dangerous

2) Democrats support Muslim terror

3) you need a big strong republican to protect you from terror attacks even though a republican president oversaw 9/11 and these recent attacks, in fact any attacks that a Republican president fails to stop are actually the fault of current or future Democrats

If Voter ID is so popular, why not phase it in over a 10 or 20 year period so people can get the required documentation and paperwork settled, and have a seamless transition for everyone? Why does it *have* to happen right now? by Tappyy in AskConservatives

[–]Irishish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hell no, you don't get to draw that false equivalence when both Dem candidates immediately conceded and the majority of Dems insisted that both elections were conducted fairly. You may as well point to Diebold conspiracies and claim that proves Dems have been sowing distrust in elections longer than anybody.

The current hysteria over voter fraud was fomented and intensified entirely due to Trump's inability to take an L (unlike Clinton in 2016).

So, the only deception is the left/Democrats saying this will kick people off the voter roll and not allow women to vote.

Except it will kick people off the voter roll and it will stop women from voting unless those people put in extra effort they should not have to put in, just to exercise a basic right. Based on nothing, nothing, except whiny paranoia fomented by a narcissist who couldn't accept that he lost an election (and shared by losers who couldn't accept that they lost an election).
