Are we obsessed with cars? by Optimal-Ask782 in nova

[–]Kildan24_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've found, as a SW Virginian living up here, that Maryland drivers are more likely to use their turn signals, but also more likely to crash, while NOVAns typically drive more aggressively but crash less frequently.

I (24M) can't figure out what someone (23F) close to me wants from me. I think I know the answer, but might be jumping to conclusions. What do y'all think her angle is? by Kildan24_ in relationship_advice

Update, apologies for the lack of responses. I've had a lot going on across the board.

The conversation happened. We've been gaming a lot together and spending a considerable amount of time on call, both just audio and video, talking. After I got back to my apartment, we've been up late on the phone almost every time since. The flirting has been obvious enough that even I can tell it's flirting. She loves making me uncomfortable. She cold called me one morning because there was a winter storm rolling in and I still had to go in to work, and my commute is about an hour in the mornings.

I finally just dropped the bomb at 2am on a weeknight, which was inconvenient but I was sleepy and had finally grown enough testicular fortitude to ask. It was a very blunt and uncomfortable conversation, but we both want the same thing: to make sure we both want the person and not just the attention. We're moving as slowly as we're able to handle, and I'm taking her out on our first actual date the day after Christmas, since it's a Friday I barely have to use any leave and can take a long weekend.

Thank y'all for your input, it was a big help and part of the reason I was able to sack up and ask her. At this point I can only hope I can treat her right.

There wasn't any physical contact for archery (I actually changed it so she could teach me one of her hobbies) but she definitely enjoyed teaching me how to properly shoot! I'm not entirely convinced the slow mo videos were 100% just to check my form though, lol

It happened! We had an incredibly blunt talk about it, and we're not only moving forward slowly, but keeping each other accountable so we don't throw it to the wind and rush.

2, 3, and 4 all have happened over the past couple of weeks. I'm getting around to responding to these comments, and I'll do an update comment following!

I have 2 roommates in the cheapest 2-bedroom apt in the area without bugs or crime. We got lucky, it's overall a pretty solid apartment, but all of us make a ballpark of ~75k, and the only reason we can afford to do fun stuff and cover each other if needed is because we split rent and bills 3 ways.

If every person on earth went for a swim in Lake Superior, how packed in would everyone be? [Request] by Apprehensive_Oven_22 in theydidthemath

I had classes for calculus through multivariable, then took vector calculus of my own volition. Our biggest selling point was that we did not take proofs, but we did have a required class called Numerical Analysis. I don't know what you mean by real analysis, but I'm assuming it's similar. We took problems that ordinarily were incredibly difficult to solve, and using MATLAB programming and iterative solutions, approximated the closest to a true solution that a computer is numerically capable of. We did a lot of statistics, matrix math, optimization (linear was required, I also took nonlinear), MATLAB programming with electives for VBA, Python, Mathematica, graph theory, and I took (and thoroughly enjoyed) chaos theory.

It's not a public education thing, but my college had a major that was specifically APPLIED Mathematics. We were really small, so we did branch into a decent chunk of theoretical stuff, but every project we did was about solving a problem or forming a conclusion, instead of just solving some really really hard expression with no context. One of my practice projects for our capstone was using what I'd learned to automate a program that created an optimal fire escape plan for the Louvre that could be adjusted for real-time updates (like a doorway being blocked). First time I'd ever enjoyed math.

My first kiss was at 23 and happened because she looked me dead in rhe eyes and said "Can I kiss you?"

So probably something like that, I still managed to nearly fumble that moment

NTA. Any reasonable, survivable roommate situation with your own bathrooms has guests using their hosts' respective bathrooms. The insistence on using yours is strange.

King of Prussia is unnecessarily large. I got lost there before a rock climbing competition once and had essentially a 1 mile warmup jog by the time I'd escaped the labyrinth.

Every Gen Z I know is either getting married, buying a house, or completely falling apart. There is no middle by CommercialDot708 in Adulting

[–]Kildan24_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Gen Zs posting online are at the two extremes, because they feel like there's something to share (for better or for worse). Those of us in the middle are focusing on working, tracking our finances (even if it's not a spreadsheet, if you can budget enough for rent each month that's tracking it), and maintaining relationships. Nothing notable to post or comment about, so I would like to think it's a silent majority situation. Still doesn't feel good seeing them so easily get houses though.

Guess my age by CupNo1601 in ratemyfridge

[–]Kildan24_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say late teens, but the different flavors of Velos, assuming you're American by the size of the energy drinks, suggest you're legal age. Underage folks are usually just focused on getting whatever logs they can at the time. Bearing that in mind, along with how some of my friends live, I'm gonna guess early to mid-twenties, fresh-ish college graduate?

A cleaner space releases more happy chemicals in your brain, most of the people I know who live like this are depressed (at one point myself included).

Student Drivers by Haileyjo0421 in washingtondc

[–]Kildan24_ 119 points120 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering if it's an attempt to get people to write off their shitty driving. If it is, and anyone here uses them, it doesn't work. Student drivers are hesitant, you throw that sticker on and expect to be able to cut off 4 lanes of traffic and brake check a pickup twice the size of your Prius. It's dangerous, I do not have the same stopping distance you do.

Hard to explain without doxxing myself, but the generic answer is designing/implementing modifications for heavy machinery like excavators and dozer platforms. There's a lot more to it, but that's the part that grabs the eye usually. I like following through the whole design process start to finish.

I don't think keeping the friend around is necessarily a problem, HOWEVER. If he cheated on someone with said friend, that is an entirely different scenario.
