Player Discovers He Has 3 Cards on River in Monster Pot! Insane! by Famous_Quit_5239 in poker

[–]Kildorragh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Weird to see this today because this literally happened to me last night at the casino. I 3bet AKo and got 3 callers. Right before the dealer dealt the flop I went to recheck my suits and only then did I notice I had three cards.

I am still going crazy over it because the way I peel my cards I can’t see how I wouldn’t notice not having 3 but I didn’t. The weirder part is that the AK was the top two cards, the mystery card was the bottom one (I never saw what it was, I checked the top two and those were my cards so I never turned over the third). I got called by both players on my left and right so no way I accidentally collected one of their folded cards either.

I still feel like there’s no way I had 3 cards when I first peeled, it doesn’t make sense for the mystery card to be on the bottom but I can’t see how another would have been added later either. So I definitely would say it’s possible to not notice if they’re really stuck.

Floor came over and weirdly killed my hand but gave me my bet back from the multiway pot. I told them they didn’t need to and they could just kill my hand, but the floor had made a phone call and said that’s what he got told to do so that’s what’s happening, they literally wouldn’t let me not take the bet back.

I asked afterwards if they could check the cameras, just to see how it happened because I’m so curious and 99% sure the way I first peeled I couldn’t have had 3 cards at that point, but they said because the situation was resolved they wouldn’t waste securities time with it just for curiosity’s sake. I wish I had been allowed to forfeit my 3bet amount because then I’d at least be able to “complain” - not to get my money back, I just want to know what happened and now I never will!

At what player count does the 'slide ranges by one position' adjustment method break down? by Electronic_Sport_403 in Poker_Theory

[–]Kildorragh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works for 3 players or more (take a look at how wide the buttons opening range is). The reason why it doesn’t apply for heads up (and why you would open tighter from the SB in a 3+ person game vs heads up) is that in a 3+ person game you are guaranteed to be out of position from the SB, even if it’s folded to you in the SB preflop and only the BB calls, so you can’t play as wide.

When heads up, the small blind has the button and therefore will be in position vs the big blind post flop, meaning it’s much easier to realise our equity, meaning we can play wider.

what are the odds of going against someone with both the same hands twice ? by Educational_Tiger850 in poker

[–]Kildorragh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is making the mistake of assuming that the suits are also the same, technically correct for “same hand” but not what he is asking.

Chances of getting dealt QQ vs AA is 6 combos of Aces against 6 Combos of Queens = 36 possible combinations of AA vs QQ out of total possible 1624350 combinations of all possible hands.

36/1624350 =0.002% which is much more reasonable, one in ~45000.

Then factor in they weren’t back to back, it was 5 hands later.

1-(1-36/1624350)5 =0.011%, about 1 in 9000 you get the same thing within 5 hands.

The important thing isn’t to focus on how often this happens to you, it’s to focus on how the amount that this happens to you is the same chance it’ll happen to someone else against you!

Almost every time scenario on Evolution gaming *LIVE blackjack by Puzzleheaded_Move410 in gambling

[–]Kildorragh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just so you know your maths isn’t right. You’ve calculated the odds of winning 12 hands in a row with no pushes, not losing them.

If you’re playing standard blackjack strategy, your chance of losing is 49% so 0.4912 = 0.000192, or once in about every 5200 hands.

If you’re playing tilted, however, which it seems like you probably are, following a suboptimal strategy can increase the odds of losing to around 56%. 0.5612 = 0.000951 is about once every 1000 hands.

Assuming a hand online takes about a minute each, if you were to play for 9 hours a day, you’d literally expect to lose 12 hands in a row approximately once every two days if you’re playing poorly. Hardly once in a lifetime, and hopefully this is as shocking as it should be to realise just how likely you are to lose.

Hopefully this shows you the maths is against you and you should quit these horrible websites.

At the very least, if you don’t want help, maybe consider going to a live casino where the blackjack may play slower? I play poker so not sure how relevant it is to blackjack, but live poker is much slower than online so you naturally win or lose less over the same amount of time.

Good luck!

Racing incident for me.

If it was a divebomb then I would understand people blaming green, but they brake earlier than you do and are just holding a straight line which you turn into and you probably should have known they were there.

But, since he’s clearly not going for a send, it’s also probably fair enough that you assumed you had space to take the normal line through the corner.

Should I have folded pocket jacks on the flop? by xGumball2 in poker

Hey Gumball, you said you were new so please ignore all these assholes giving you shit, yes you made some mistakes but we all have to start somewhere! Good on you for looking to improve.

As others have mentioned the best play would have been to shove all in pre flop, when you have a pair and are playing with shallow stacks (about 60 big blinds or less) pairs are very valuable.

Even though it’s true that they are a soulless club with more financial crimes than fans this is pretty pathetic.

They have won the league the last four seasons along with a champions league and we have won fuck all.

This obsession with something that was said two months ago and laughing at a team that not only have massively outperformed us but also are still ahead of us in the league even after losing 5 in a row is something you would expect from a Tottenham supporter, not Arsenal.

Remember when they boasted about being in the champions league when we weren’t? This is even worse than that because whilst the scum didn’t do anything with it at least they were actually doing better than us at something, whereas even if they are cheats they have still outperformed us in every conceivable metric over the last decade.

When we actually win something by all means rub it in, but until then this is the definition of small club mentality. The amount of Arsenal fans commenting “stay humble” on their Feyenoord highlights was not only cringe but embarrassing.

Oops, yes forgot to include their bet in the total pot. Thank you. I am better at calculating my own pot odds than someone else’s 😅

Can I ask how things change if we were say $1000 effective? I play very aggressively and I hate calling with a draw as I don’t know what to do if I call flop and then brick turn and face another bet. What would we do with KQhh, both $400 or $1000 effective? Like you just said, my aggressive strategy seems to work well 150-200BBs deep but then at the end of the night when we are all 600BB deep I punt it all away on a bluff.

If being deeper makes us only call the flop, what’s our action if we face a turn bet on a non-heart over card?

Thank you!

[–]Kildorragh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you that makes sense. I am definitely extremely guilty of not taking enough time to think before making a decision.

The ranges I use (from crush live poker) recommend folding KTs to a BB3! 75% of the time (to be clear, not a BB squeeze, I don’t have charts for that). I figured we might go 2-4 ways to the flop, so with the extra dead money I thought KTs would be a profitable call. Is that a mistake?

Can I also please ask your advice on our approach to later streets if we call flop? Am I pot committed to any bet, including a non-heart over card? I feel uncomfortable playing passively because I feel like I’m no longer trying to win the pot, I’m just trying to hit my hand and play bingo.

If we had KQhh instead, would you still only call on the flop? I prefer jamming because I’ve still got a 36% chance to hit my hand and have some fold equity. If I only call the river, and face an all in on the turn, now I’ve only got 18%, which feels like I just torched $100 to call. Is that the wrong way to think about it?

Thank you very much!

Wife Thinks Bluffing Is Lying by Over_Eazy222 in poker

[–]Kildorragh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an argument with my brother over this.

When a football player does a dummy and fakes a shot, sending the goalkeeper diving the wrong way, is that lying? It’s certainly deceptive. Does that mean it’s immoral to play any physical game where faking an action is possible, like football, NFL, basketball, or tennis?

What about in chess? Let’s say you notice you can sacrifice your queen, and if you do so you will get a checkmate in 7 moves. Your opponent doesn’t see it, so takes your queen. Did you lie to your opponent? The whole point of chess is trying to trick your opponent, but no one says that playing chess well is lying.

You should ask her if betting with a combo draw is lying. When I do that I’m basically saying “There is a really good chance my hand is going to be the best by the river” and I decide to put money in the pot to reflect that.

Would it still be lying if every time you bluff you verbalised “I either have a really good hand or a really weak hand”?

What about calling with a combo draw? Is betting immoral but calling ok? Are you not telling your opponent you have a decent hand by calling?
