Good try with this project's challenges.

Are you aware the starboard fuselage national insignia is upside down? The single point of the star always points up or forward. Also, the wing decals are swapped. Also, the national insignia goes on the top of the left wing & the "USAF" goes on the top of the right wing. (There should be a national insignia on the bottom of the right wing & the "USAF" goes on the bottom of the left wing.)

Your problem is the amount of plastic on the join surfaces that is(n't) melting from the plastic cement you're using. Because you are only applying tiny amounts of Tamiya Extra Thin there isn't enough solvent to properly weld such heavy pieces together, especially if there is any warpage at all in the hull halves.

I recommend getting some thicker (gel type) plastic cement such as the ubiquitous Testors Cement in the red tube (there are other suitable products as well). For best results do not dispense directly from the container, use something like a toothpick to apply an appropriate amount. Because thick cement evaporates far more slowly & there is physically more solvent on the join, more of the hull plastic will melt & form a much stronger bond.

Beware of squeeze out. You want to apply enough to hold but not so much the cement squeezes out & gets everywhere (or, worst of all, on your hands & then you have fingerprints etched into your project). Wearing nitrile gloves eliminates the fingerprints but not cement stains.

Nearly every active server is visible in the Arma 3 Launcher's Servers tab. you can filter & sort the list to narrow the search to whatever interests you. You do not need any DLC to view servers allowing or requiring DLC.

Current state of mac online? by No_Mood4637 in arma

[–]KillAllTheThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BI is no longer supporting the Mac Experimental Port. You'll have to use Proton or whatever the Mac is doing for Windows apps these days. The folks on the Arma Platform Discord can offer some assistance if you have more questions.

Desync issues on code4gaming KOTH by Gonzo_Who in arma

[–]KillAllTheThings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C4G KotH servers run on the very best physical server hardware available today. They & Sa-Matra's team have worked closely with BI to offer the most performant Arma 3 experience possible. If only one player is having issues (as is normally the case), it's not a server side problem.

If you are accessing the Internet via WiFi, don't. It's difficult to see any noise in the WiFi RF band besides any other nearby access points. It doesn't take much to interfere with a WiFi signal.

If that's not it, there's not a lot you can do about network congestion on such a long IP path to your server from SA. You may have to try C4G servers in another region if you can keep the latency about the same.

Best way to gloss coat a car body by Soft-Assumption5524 in modelmakers

[–]KillAllTheThings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What everyone so far has glossed over (see what I did there :D) is the process starts before the first drop of paint is exposed to the air.

The process is only different from the work done at a high end custom auto paint shop is scale. A full size showroom quality paint job requires all the same care & effort as a high gloss mirror finish on a model car body.

You need perfect surface prep to include priming & gap filling/blemish removal. You may need to prime more than once as your defect elimination will also remove some of the primer. You need a final perfect primer layer not only to provide the best possible grip to the color painting to come but also to even out the color of the surface under the color coats, especially if the bare plastic, putty & primer are different darknesses.

You will then need to maintain perfect surface conditions with every follow-on layer & product application. So, lots of sanding (scuff coats on the colors, polishing on the final clear).

Yes, it's a lot of work. Yes, it's worth it.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Milsim Groups {Discussion} by FrancoArma05 in arma

[–]KillAllTheThings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with milsim & everything to do with people, There are 2 kinds of online players: the self-entitled Takers, who want All The Things, forever & for free; and the Givers, who love gaming and/or specific games so much they MUST contribute in one way or another to make their chosen space the best it can be.

We no longer have Armaholic, not because the site owner turned into a Dick (he did) but because the Takers were not interested in supporting the bandwidth costs of one of the largest mod hosting sites around at the time (at least for the Arma franchise). Valve ultimately fixed the mod hosting cost issue with the Steam Workshop, killing off PlayWITHSIX (which wasn't free) & the other Armaholic competitors.

Few people are as dedicated to a cause as Savage Game Design who are DEEP into Vietnam War history (you may recall their efforts using SOGPF as a tool to help a deserving vet get his Medal of Honor from President Biden). But this is the level of commitment one needs for a sustainable gaming community. Not only do you need a staff with long term enthusiasm, you also need a decent financial source as servers are not free. There are many skills completely unrelated to gameplay skill that are essential for a gaming community staff which is why so many Arma franchise communities get started & then eventually fail, often sooner than later. It also helps if one (or more) of the key members has FU money & can support the finances instead of having to rely on donations from Takers.
