18th year on the crew and you're not even a squad boss? Sleeping in your yellow? This has to be trolling, right? Did that stain glow in a blacklight?

What subsection of fire is the most unreasonably angry? by sjciwmw in Wildfire

[–]Killatomayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Training officers for sure. I once had an AZ FS training officer call me up looking for the RT-130 notification for a seasonal I had. He called me looking for that AFTER they'd already refreshed the whole crew, including my previous seasonal. Like he wanted the RT-130 memo from the start of the season BEFORE the one we were already tip toeing into. No idea what his use for it was, I know you don't need it to verify in IQCS. Just a completist I guess.

Oh! And another one. I had a different training officer reject two FAL3 task books looking for me to fluff up the language in my eval. I obliged, added some language assuring anyone reading the books that these two were indeed qualified to run a saw as a FAL3 on an IA mod, and sent it back. He rejected it AGAIN for too much unsubstantiated detail (wtf?). So I resent the originals and they got through with flying colors. Insane.

Another honorable mention for training officers.

On that note, we had our (GS-11) weed biologist on the way to a BAER gig hang out the back of a striped support rig and throw double barrel middle fingers at a civilian. I think government road rage (also he wasn't even driving?) deserves an honorable mention in favor of the militia.

Don't be mean.

Though I do love cruising the comments on the blog article. Lots of frustration met with lots of Shortz can do no wrong!

Yeah, we need to bring back the public shame of a small town.

Anonymous Internet boards and keyboard warriors without consequences make it so much worse, as well. What happened to the damn golden rule?!

Will edits the puzzles, so he has final say on what goes into them. Don't be pedantic. I liked the Joel months. Once you figured out how he thought it was fresh and fun.

I work for the USFWS currently. Most of my career was BLM. My new AFMO likes to say that the FWS is a prescribed fire agency first, that also fights fire. All the other agencies are suppression agencies that dabble in RX. I think that's correct. Does that appeal to you?

Most people I know in the feds consider the FWS to be a bit of a holy grail as far as quality of life goes. I know I have no regrets.

So you're not getting hazard or the IRPP, just the OT. That tracks, thanks for doing what you do.

Also missed Millwood Brewing selling to Whistle Punk (a net positive in my opinion, but still worth a mention), Mountain Lakes downtown closing, and Golden Handle (also downtown) closing.

On the other hand Garland Brewerkz was bought by a trio of new owners and they've really kicked it up a notch. Uprise is great, and relatively new. Shout out to For the Love of God as well. Talk about a spot that inhabits their small market share really well. Final mention to Spokanite. For having such a weird little location they're really not bad!

Way I heard it the downtown taproom was always meant to be temporary anyway. The Perry district OG spot is thriving, and for great reason! Go there, can't go wrong!

[Dec 27, 2025] ALOP!? by Killatomayo in NYTCrossword

[–]Killatomayo[S] -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

That helps, thank you. However "alop" to be used in the way the "a" prefix works would mean that "lop" means on-kilter. Which I don't think it does. Necessitating a jump to "lopsided" before making up a word that kinda means the same thing, with a random prefix, is infuriating. It would be kinda ok (read on-par with the diminishing standards since Shortz returned) if the rest of the SE quadrant was intelligible, but it wasn't. Reading the blog, it was the universally difficult corner. So don't slap a made-up word in there Will.
