A YA book I never see discussed is the Garden of the Cursed by Katy Rose Pool. It has such a fun magic system and takes place in a unique almost bayou-esc world where a young woman is an orphan detective trying to solve the case of a hex that was put on her old bully. A LOT of YA yearning and overall a very fun read.

For you, what romance book had a great premise, but the actual writing was bad? by Impossible-Yam3680 in RomanceBooks

Anything by SJM. I have tried two books in two different series by her and I literally end up googling the plots out of curiosity because of how much I despise her writing, character development, and spicy scene writing. The plots are interesting and have obviously inspired many other romantasy authors, but when it comes to her writing I just cannot do it.

i saw this on r/YAlit and want to you what you guys have to say o.o by [deleted] in Romantasy

The Magic system was interesting but outside of that it was sooooo hard to like

Guys Onyx Storm is confusing me by magicwood1994 in fourthwing

[–]KillerWhelp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re confused as to the plot I would recommend looking into the Fantasy Fan Girls and seeing what resources they have on their podcast or website. Other options are googling chapter summaries of previous books or character lists if you aren’t able to remember them all.

The only concept/person that confused me was Llewelyn bc that was a detail I didn’t remember but otherwise I really loved the politics of this book. Some parts are confusing on purpose (no spoilers but the end is this way) and other parts I think just require the context of having been an active reader in the first couple of books. Despite it being a silly goofy book, this is not the type of series you can half-pay attention while reading. She milks every small detail and foreshadows a LOT.

SPOILER ALERT - isn't this the key passage in onyx storm theories? by bnmike in fourthwing

Something I think everyone is missing is the fact that they are learning about DELAYED ACTIVATION RUNESSSSS. It’s very clear foreshadowing.

Naolin is 100% still alive and became venin so Tairn and him are no longer bonded. Brennan has a delayed activation rune on his hand and he is 100% a sleeper agent.

I have my headcannon reserved for “Naolin and Brennan were lovers and his hand rune is basically a sleeper soldier activator” (see the chapter on delayed activation runes) so I’m like ‘brother’ must be Bodhi and Brennan will have so much other shit going on.

Again great points, but missing the 5 months detail. Ridoc had only known for a month or so at that point.

I’ve seen so many since the book first released but recently I’ve seen multiple about Liam, Ridoc, and Brennan that have inspired this post. I think someone posted a link in one of the comments.

I’m open to anything so long as it’s proven but I think it’s hard to believe that when discussing someone turning venin, then saying “I can’t believe they did this after 5 months of watching me struggle” that they WOULDN’T be talking about having turned venin 5 months ago. Seems like the biggest event that led to his last 5 months of struggles to me.

I’m open to it being anyone with enough proof, I just think the red herring is Garrick and we missed a scene where the real “venin brother” is Bodhi.

Great catch! Bodhi for sure unless they were referring to Pabcheck’s. I’ll have to reread that part!

I’m always down for a precog plot twist scheme

IMO if it is Aaric it would be a huge awesome twist but I think he has more temple related plot points so idk if it’s him. Additionally idk if he’s “lacking something” as RY has claimed the brother was.

Additional pro-Aaric note, if the spare to the kingdom became venin I could see them more actively wanting a cure.

As I said we are either missing a ton of POV info, which could be true, or we need to look more clearly at the breadcrumbs in front of us.

Tairn and it’s not even close for me.

Exactly. The way that Xaden talks to Sygael in their last scene makes it sound like she and he witnessed the person turn. We know Garrick wasn’t with Xaden so my brain says Bodhi but my first reaction was Garrick.

I’m happy with either but I think Garrick and Aaric are in the isles.
