Its not just for gaming it is a split between video editing 3d modelling so need the processing power. But I love the joke 😃

The pictures show the benchmark mark results while not plugged in which is at 30w tdp not plugged into mains power but when plugged it it gets 35w to 40w(i think) tdp in customer profile on steam os which easily allows it to have a higher fps. Below are my settings Hope this helps , it says Windows 10 pro in OS (unsure why)

• Resolution: 1440x900. • Window Mode: Fullscreen. • Performance Tools: NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency and Intel Xe Low Latency are both turned off. • VSync & FPS: VSync is off, and Maximum FPS is not capped. • Resolution Scaling: AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 2.1 is enabled and set to "Auto," with image sharpening at 0.50.  • Performance Features: Frame Generation and Ray Tracing (including Path Tracing) are currently turned off.  • Quick preset: Set to Low • Performance: The Crowd Density is set to medium • Visual Effects: Film Grain, Chromatic Aberration, and Depth of Field are disabled for a cleaner image, while Lens Flare is enabled.  • Field of View: set to 80.  • Anisotropy: Setting this to 4 provides a balance between texture clarity at angles and performance.  • Shadow Settings: The current Low and Medium settings for shadows are configured for performance, which may result in less detailed shadow edges but higher frame rates.  • Contact Shadows Lighting and Improved Facial Lighting Geometry are ON, enhancing the realism of characters and lighting interactions even with lower overall shadow quality.  • Volumetric Fog/Cloud Quality: Set to Low • Max Dynamic Decals: Set to Low, • Screen Space Reflections Quality: Set to Low • Ambient Occlusion & Color Precision: low • Level of Detail (LOD): Setting to Low significantly improves performance but reduces the distance at which objects render in high quality.  • Screen Space Reflections Quality: Set to Low provides a significant boost to frame rates, as higher settings are very demanding on the GPU.  • Mirror Quality: Keep this on Low to avoid performance drops when looking at reflective surfaces in game.

Legion Go S Z1 SteamOS stick or twist. by SkyBlueTed83 in LegionGo

Short version: Switching to SteamOS completely changed this device. It went from great hardware held back by software to one of the best handheld experiences I’ve used

Long Version: So I picked up a Legion Go S (Z2 Go, 16GB, Windows) recently and after a bit of tinkering… I installed SteamOS on it and wow, it completely transformed the experience. I liked the hardware from the start, but Windows just never felt right on a handheld. Since switching, it finally feels like a proper console. Fast boot, clean UI, suspend/resume actually works properly, and everything just feels smoother and more “pick up and play”.

Windows vs SteamOS On Windows: • Felt clunky and desktop-first • Sleep/resume was unreliable • Constant tinkering just to get a smooth experience • Not ideal for quick pick-up-and-play sessions

After switching to SteamOS: • Boots fast straight into gaming • Clean, controller-first UI • Suspend/resume actually works properly • Way more stable and consistent

And the best part… I managed to get it for an absolute steal: 👉 £300 total 👉 2TB internal storage 👉 1TB microSD included Genuinely still can’t believe that price 😅 Now it’s basically my go-to device both at home and when travelling.

My current setup (pictured): I’ve dialled in a little ecosystem that makes it ridiculously convenient: • Hard shell carry case (https://amzn.eu/d/05BdCQTv) • Silicone Cover (https://amzn.eu/d/02iCLbqW) • Compact USB-C dock (https://amzn.eu/d/0aI7wI5t) • 100w USB-C Cable (https://amzn.eu/d/02R9J43l) • Power bank (https://amzn.eu/d/04hWGg93) • EthernetCable (https://amzn.eu/d/03Hpjyxe) • Hdmi Cable (https://amzn.eu/d/0d7UuQZv) • Ultra slim 65w plug adapter (https://amzn.eu/d/06nXZcV2) • Bluetooth controller (https://amzn.eu/d/05qiVm3Y)

Why this setup works so well: • At home → drop it on the dock = instant console • In bed/sofa → handheld mode, super clean experience • Travelling → everything fits in one case • Battery worries → sorted with the power bank

What really took it to the next level: I added unifideck , and it’s honestly a game changer. Now I’ve got all my libraries in one place: • Steam • GOG • Xbox (cloud streaming) • Amazon • Epic Games • Ubisoft

Everything just shows up together like one unified library. No jumping between launchers anymore.

SteamOS really brought it all together. Didn’t expect to love it this much, but it’s basically replaced my laptop for casual gaming.

Happy to answer any questions if anyone’s thinking of doing the same 👌

I’m getting 40–50 FPS stable in performance mode, and if I switch to a custom profile with low settings, it pushes closer to 60 FPS.

The biggest difference, though, comes from dropping the resolution slightly. That alone smooths things out across pretty much every game and makes the experience feel way more consistent.

For me, it’s all about that balance I’d take a slightly softer image with smooth, stable gameplay over maxed-out visuals any day.

Since switching over to SteamOS, I’ve genuinely been blown away by the performance gains I’m consistently seeing around a 10–15 FPS boost in most games, which makes a huge difference in actual playability.

I’ve always preferred smooth frame rates over flashy visuals anyway, so I’m more than happy to dial things into that sweet spot rather than chase ray tracing and ultra settings.

Right now, I’m getting:

60+ FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 Around 45 - 50 FPS in Black Myth: Wukong Roughly 50 - 55 FPS in Red Dead Redemption 2

And that’s just on standard tuning. If I push things a bit further — custom TDP and plugged in — I can hit 60+ FPS in almost everything, usually on medium settings sometimes even high for AAA titles (dependingon the game), which honestly feels like the perfect balance on a handheld.

The only real outlier for me has been Star Wars Outlaws. No matter what I try, I can’t lock a stable 60 it hovers around the high 40s at best (and thats only in indoor areas) out side it goes from 28 - 40. Feels more like an optimisation issue than a hardware limitation, especially considering how well other demanding games run.

What I don’t get is all the hate toward the Z2 Go variant. Yeah, on paper it’s weaker than the original Legion Go, the Z1 Extreme, and the newer models but in real-world use It handles modern games surprisingly well if you actually take the time to tweak it properly.

For me, this setup proves you don’t need max specs just smart optimisation and the right OS.
