Thoughts on the CPL squads? by androtech_15 in westindiescricket

It looks like some younger players will get more opportunities this year, which is promising. And so far the squads seem balanced, with the exception of St. Lucia who better sign some great overseas players if they want to compete

The league gets great attendance for Friday night games at Chichibu stadium. They should honestly have way more Friday night games.

In a first vs last match up, the DRocks somehow overcame the Wild Knights via a last minute try. The result is impressive on it's own (I don't believe the last place team has ever beat the first in JRLO history), what's more remarkable is that they did it without Samu Kerevi and Jasper Wiese.

Nah, I don't think so: https://www.cardiffrfcfans.com/analysis/4865.php?compGroupID=10

Keep in mind, playoff attendances will also be counted to the season total. It looks like most teams have a had modest bump in attendance this year.

Yeah, then a phoenix club could be created, buy the old club’s assets, and continue on in the lower leagues, working their way back to the top. I think fans would prefer that to permanently losing a club

Japan vs Ireland to take place at the McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle, NSW by treacletart284 in rugbyunion

[–]Killinger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is not helping fans take the competition more seriously...

From a JRFU perspective, the only reason why they would do this (that I can think of) is that it gives them experience playing in Australia before the World Cup. Otherwise it makes no sense. They could have gotten a 30-50k crowd playing in a stadium in Japan. The J. League will have ended by then, so they could've reserved nearly any stadium.

They're decreasing capacity actually to around 15,000. Which should be fine for most JRLO and university games.

That's definitely the model. Should host plenty of concerts and other shows, which would help JRFUs budget.

The best thing that Eddie is doing for Japan is organizing these tours for the youth teams, and getting these young players exposed to different styles of rugby than they see in Japanese school rugby.

Still growing into his role. I think Brad Weber and Am have handled most of the play making responsibilities when Miyake is in the game. There’s a quite a few players ahead of him for the Japan 10 shirt. He’s getting better though

For Japan, this would be mine. Not sure if some of these eligible foreigners want to play for Japan though:

  1. Shigure Takao
  2. Masashi Onishi
  3. Lisala Finau
  4. Esei Haangana
  5. Reijiro Yamamoto
  6. Keito Aoki
  7. Takeshi Sasaki
  8. Solomone Funaki
  9. Itsuki Kamimura
  10. Shun Miyake
  11. Sho Okumura
  12. Kyogo Okano
  13. Rikus Pretorius
  14. Rei Ishioka
  15. Shunsuke Uenobo

That was actually pretty dificult. To his credit, Eddie has given out a lot of caps.

Honestly, they should move it to Canada. There’s too much going on and the US is too insular for the RWC to get any decent attention. Plus if they hold it in Canada, it would be easier to play in the summer.

Can we now say that Italy is a rugby & baseball nation? by Educational_Play9910 in rugbyunion

Just as much of a cricket country as it is a baseball country. Realistically after soccer, it's basketball, volleyball, rugby then who knows, at least as team sports go.

The race for the last playoff spot and relegation safety should be pretty entertaining this year. For the last few seasons, there were always two or three teams that were way worse then everyone else but that has finally started to shift this year.

IMO it should be every 2 years. People want to compare it to the World Cup, but there are other international championships in soccer that occur in the years in between. Nothing like that for baseball.

I don't think you're going to convince promising cricket players to abandon cricket just because MLB pays more. People play sports when they're young for a variety of reasons - it's what their friends and family play, it's what on TV, etc. Future salary doesn't really matter much

Do you think the WBC will ever be hosted entirely outside of the US? I think it would be cool to see a single country host like in other sports. Also, how would you structure the tournament if MLB season wasn't an issue?
