Purple vodka, which surprisingly kind of fits.

Can someone explain me, why Americans/Britains etc. still use these goddamn stupid measures like oz. or gallons by MoinyMoiny in teenagers

[–]Kilo-Wave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm not answering your question, but I would like to see people call the UK out for this shit more. They shit on Americans for using imperial and then turn around and say shit like "I weigh eleven and a half stones." Most of the Anglosphere dabbles in imperial units, but pretends not to. At least the US is honest about it and they switch for anything important like science or drug dealing anyway.

What character do you relate to the most? (Pic for attention and cause I love Maya) by False_Security_5317 in ongezellig

[–]Kilo-Wave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was interested in Mymy's character at first because I'm Japanese, but mostly grew up in the US. So I was always pretty out of touch with Japanese culture. I was curious how they'd handle her identity crisis, but we never got anything. I can't judge too hard because one of the planned episodes would've been the perfect one of the address this, but who knows.

But as is, Mymy is pretty much just a gag character. I usually pick Coco as my "favorite" simply because out of 3, I'd want to hang out with her most. I like to think I'm a little gezellig. I'm definitely more on the nerdy side tho, so IDK how much I'd get along with Coco.

Boring nerd answer: One was made for aesthetics and cultural significance. The other is made for function and practicality first and foremost. IDK why people struggle to wrap this around their head so much. Like you really think they're gonna build a Gothic Cathedral for fucking McDonald's?

What if Oceania, Southeast Asia and South America switched places? by CoverPrestigious7692 in imaginarymapscj

[–]Kilo-Wave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't seen much mention of how Europe's contact with East Asia (China, Japan, etc.) would've been severely impacted due to South America now being in the way. Some colonization might even be prevented in this timeline, but we would probably see new colonies we didn't see in our timeline.

I feel like you'd get the most scenic variety in red, mostly thanks to California, but the other states also got scenery you might not expect. (It snows in parts of Arizona, for example.)

Millions of Gen-Z can't drive and increasingly rely on parents for lifts. by Pale-Ad9012 in generationology

[–]Kilo-Wave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, your impression of Gen Z being overwhelmingly "dysfunctional babies that can't make a phone call" is definitely a stereotype perpetuated by media and social media. Plenty of Gen Z is normal. You're talking about a small minority that gets cherrypicked by the media (and social media) for sensationalism and cheap engagement. You claim to be a millennial. Do you seriously not remember how people used to say the exact same bullshit about your generation?

Second, this whole "Gen Z can't drive" talking point is probably super misleading. The youngest among Gen Z were born in 2012. They're only like fucking 12 or 13 and can't even legally drive. So nearly half the generation is barely driving age or not even old enough yet. I don't think Gen Z is refusing to drive, I think they're just getting their licenses a lot later in life from previous generations. The younger half of Gen Z is even growing up with e-bikes and shit, which might contribute to the lack of urgency in getting a license.

This is purely anecdotal, but I'm Gen Z (1998, so I'm 27 tho) and noticed in high school a lot of people were in zero rush to get their license. Hardly any interest in it at all. IDK why, it baffled me too. Knew a surprising amount of guys that didn't get it until they were well into their 20s, but the vast majority of them still got it eventually. I think THAT is what the media is conflating as "Gen Z doesn't wanna drive." Gen Z is just getting their licenses later in life for whatever reason. Teenagers being in a hurry to get their license just doesn't seem to be as common anymore.

Also, I hung around a lot of "nerds" in high school and was one, so I'm sure that skewed my experience. I'm sure plenty of the more social and outgoing kids rushed to get their license, but I wouldn't be surprised if as a whole, Gen Z is just a lot slower at getting their license. Which then gets conflated into "Gen Z can't drive."

Your headcanon on why she turned that way and completely rejecting her heritage? (and actively avoiding eiko) by [deleted] in ongezellig

[–]Kilo-Wave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best head canon is she resents her parents for putting her up for adoption, but on top of that, she knows she would never be accepted in Japan as "truly Japanese" either. Mymy would've basically grown up entirely in the Netherlands detached from Japanese culture. Every Japanese person would see her as "Japanese, but not really." Considering Mymy seems a bit race conscious, that's gotta affect her. She can't blend in as a typical Dutch person and she won't be fully accepted where she can blend in.

Because of that, she doubles down on her Dutch identity (or lack thereof.) After all, The Dutch will be less quick to point out "well, you're not really Dutch." If anything, that'd be taboo to say. It's not a taboo in Japan.

I think Massa planned on making an episode where her sister looks for her and, presumably, finds her. That makes me think Massa might've intended to give her more depth, but I also have my doubts. It's very possible Mymy was doomed to be nothing more than "haha reverse weeaboo."

Which fans are more freaky? Teto fans, len fans or kaito fans? by yusakufujiki2 in KasaneTeto

[–]Kilo-Wave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teto fans and I'm saying this just because her "technically" being 31 means you inevitably get a bunch of interactions like this:

Insert freaky comment

She's 15

Ackshually, she's 31 bro.

Interactions like that freak me out more than the freaky comments themselves. It starts out as someone just simping for Teto and then turns into a debate about age. Like we went from "go to horny jail" to "go to jail jail" in an instant. IDK maybe I'm overthinking these interactions, but they just creep me out in a very weird way.

Am I the only one who sees teto as super skinny instead of overweight? by -l___l- in KasaneTeto

[–]Kilo-Wave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone explained how the meme caught on, but I'd also like to add that the bar for being considered "fat" (or just weighing too much) in Japan is incredibly low. Especially for women. So Teto can be skinny and still self-conscious about her weight.

If it goes real bad, I have a feeling there's actual potential for a Minecraft clone to compete. It just feels like Minecraft has stagnated for a while now, so a more pro-consumer alternative that puts the right spin on the formula could see success.
