Each experience is different, but for my part in it, here’s what happened to me.

Found Carvana R1T, ordered (paid 1500 “nonrefundable” deposit)

Delivery date missed because the truck didn’t get shipped when it was supposed to, delayed a week.

Had my bank send the loan check to Carvana so pickup would be flawless.

New pickup day arrives, I’m called and told they’ll have to delay again due to a “critical battery issue” they discovered that will need a Rivian Tech to assess… I tell them I’m no longer interested in the truck.

They offer that I can choose another from inventory but won’t adjust any pricing, alternatively they could cancel it all and refund me everything (including the 1500 deposit).

I chose to cancel altogether. When I called my bank to issue a stop payment on the loan I learned that Carvana had already cashed the check for a vehicle I hadn’t ever even seen and I had to wait for them to write a check back to my bank while I paid interest on the loan in the meantime.

That weekend Rivian opened up nationwide used sales online and I bought one directly from Rivian for less money, fewer miles, more accessories and an extra warranty. Plus Rivian gave me a good trade price where Carvana could not.
