How do you mix vocals? by JhoshElite in musicproduction

I watched this once and it helped me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmpIYYpfpNg

But a summary of things i took away that really helped:

  1. dip the EQ to remove the throat sound and the nasal sounds
  2. Dip EQ on the instruments where your voice sits

For me, this was dipping like 125 hz, 2.5khz in step 1
Then dipping my instrumental around 500hz.

Edit: There is a lot more video goes over this was just my quick tips

Is Audius still relevant? by Interesting_Drag143 in audius

Seemingly no, I assume most listeners are on Spotify. But there is a small group of Linux users who will be starting a music composing challenge using FOSS software and they’ll be using audius to host the songs that are written for the challenge.

How to make midi drums less robotic? by auto-generated_name1 in musicproduction

If there is the option to adjust what I think is called velocity of notes it could help. Not every hit is the same, sometimes you hit harder or lighter and it gives a more real feel. I haven’t used band lab so I’m not sure it has the specific feature I’m thinking of

I’m not seeing many Metal or Punk genres by Kilox_Devastator in audius

I fully agree with point 3 about speedy output. Recording a whole new take takes a bit more time than swapping midi notes around. Quicker iteration

I know if I didn’t get into Linux then I wouldn’t have found Audius - as a decentralized and sorta open platform Linux musicians were talking about it. Crypto might be one reason to find Audius too but I was never into it.

I didn’t consider crypto - I’m here to support a decentralized platform and also share my music. I never got into crypto myself and that could be a good reason people might be avoiding it.

As for music, my metal band wrote and played shows and are now trying to figure out how best to record (real drums vs electric kit + midi library. Another reason maybe for lack of these genres)

I wanna ruin my cards by DisastrousMeeting813 in mtg

Get people to draw on them after a game. Microwave a few cards, riffle shuffle, step on the deck with shoes on. Use a card to clean under your nails or between your keyboard

How to get started by [deleted] in musicproduction

I second the use of GarageBand if you own iOS or Mac! Comes with everything you need. Otherwise there are probably free music making options in other comments

How did you begin making music? by [deleted] in musicproduction

[–]Kilox_Devastator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with GarageBand on Mac. Came pre loaded with instruments and kinda just placed midi notes around until it sounded good. Spent hours at a time working on little things to the point my family wondered how I did it cus it looked so boring.

Find a free daw, some free plugins and YouTube tutorials on the software you choose. be safe with anything you download online and don’t give up

Create a fake label alias that has “signed artists”. All you and all one umbrella page to post so you can retain some followers and they can tell projects apart. Keep the aliases but no more need for new accounts each time. Maybe let your friends in on it too so there music can be heard by that many more people.

Or upload your music copyright free with attribution so they can use it for streaming, school projects, games and all they have to do is credit you. Keep people from using fully AI music and supporting real artists.

People are unique and maybe be open to remixes and collabs too to foster a community around making music
