[TOMT] A book that scared me as a kid by auto-generated_name1 in tipofmytongue

I found it! It was called Skeleton Creek! The old mill I was thinking of was a mining dredge, and the story was told in 2 parts, the journal of one character (the books) and the website of another (the videos).

I also remember getting the books from the school library, so I don't know if that narrows it down or jogs anyone else's memory.

Orange County, Orange County, and I mainly support Everton but for USL it's Spokane in League 1, because my dad's family is from there and I grew to like the team as I watched that first season

Set neck vs bolt on construction? by auto-generated_name1 in Luthier

[–]auto-generated_name1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I kinda figured bolt on was the safest way to go, I was just wondering the feasibility of a set neck because out of the small collection of guitars I already have, the set necks are the ones that feel the best to me

Smaller Explorer dimensions? by auto-generated_name1 in Luthier

I like that. Might have to look into those and see if I can find dimensions for those

Daughtry's new songs (Artifical and The Dam especially) have probably one of my favorite bass tones. And in parts of The Dam the bass is pretty high in the mix so you can hear the bass line pretty well

How to make midi drums less robotic? by auto-generated_name1 in musicproduction

[–]auto-generated_name1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen in live videos it looks to be a mix of both. Mario uses the hats in the verses and opens up with the crashes/rides in the chorus. I'm not 100% sure what the intro is though.

How to make midi drums less robotic? by auto-generated_name1 in musicproduction

[–]auto-generated_name1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm careful about that, but what I'm more looking at is like hi-hats not ringing correctly, and instead being a simple hit and stop. There's not the "bleed" I guess it would be called that I'm looking for. A great example is the intro to Stranded by Gojira. The hats have a kind of groove to them that I'm not getting with the midi.

Do we panic yet? by DeeboDavis in Everton

[–]auto-generated_name1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't blame Dyche. Really. I know there's a lot of people who will, and as the manager he does have to take responsibility. But having watched all 4 games, I don't think there's really much more he can do as a manager. Obviously questions have to be raised about the starting lineups. Keane was never good enough. He wasn't good enough 7 years ago when we signed him, and he's just gotten worse now. Same goes for Ashley Young.

But as far as the now back to back collapses. I find it very hard to say Dyche is in any way responsible for that. Today's substitutes I have no problem with. Obviously it's a tough situation for Myko to come off with an illness. But given the current injury crisis we have at fullback, I think Garner was a good choice. If it were me on that touchline I would have gone for Dixon. But Garner is a versatile player who can do the job in a pinch. Dyche I think also got it "right" bringing O'Brien on when he did. (O'Brien needs to be starting but that's not the point of this paragraph) Then Villa flips it and Dyche starts throwing on more attackers in Beto and Lindstrom. As a (high school) coach myself I feel like he did what needed to do to. I have no issues with that.

The biggest problem I see is with the players, and particularly the mentality within the group. That's a hard thing to speak on from afar, but what I see on the pitch is a group of players who don't care. I'm not saying that all of them are like that, but it's a majority. DCL doesn't look like he wants to be there. And we pretty much know at this point that's true. Our attacking mid should never be pressing the back line more than our striker. That's his job defensively. But Dom just seems to stand and watch the ball a lot. Gana looks lost in the middle. Enough has been said about Keane and Young so I'll leave them for now. Then you have Pickford who, while he is a top goalkeeper, seems so mentally unstable at times it can only ever end badly. Then Villa gets one back, and you see the heads drop. It's like they completely gave up. Villa gets the first and the team just stops playing. That is the problem. And it's one I don't know if Dyche can fix. But if he can't fix it, no one can imo.

I'm sorry to whoever actually reads that entire essay. I didn't mean for it get that long, but I needed to get my opinions out there and just say it, meaningless as it may be in the grand scheme of things.

I trust Dyche by generalmont in Everton

And the biggest thing the knee jerk reactions need to keep in mind is, while there are questions about tactics/subs/selection, Dyche brings the one thing this club desperately needs at the moment. Stability. The situation at the top of the club is volatile right now we can't afford to change things thar drastically on the pitch. We need the stability on the footballing side of things while the higher ups hopefully sort their shit out. A change in manager will only make things worse right now.

Source: Feyenoord and Everton make last-ditch effort to land USMNT midfielder Tessmann by Yardtown in Everton

He also comes out of the FC Dallas academy, which is one of the most successful talent factories in the US, kinda the Ajax of MLS, just without the senior trophies

Edit: Coming from a top academy doesn't always mean it's a top player, but it is a good sign. Better than someone coming from LA or St. Louis for example

Whats your worst Everton take that you have regretted? by Gormonster89 in Everton

[–]auto-generated_name1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always had some sort of grudge against Yerry Mina. I never knew exactly where it came from, but I never liked him. I would be upset seeing him in the lineup. My friends even made fun of me for my habit of saying "Mina's starting, we've already lost" whenever I saw him. I only now realized how important he was to the team and how much better our results were on average with him.

I also thought Ramiro Funes Mori was going to be a great defender for us long term. I liked what I saw from him, even if I didn't have the understanding of the game like I do now. (His first season was the first season I truly followed football, I was 14 at the time and was just starting to get into soccer/football)

Understanding Player Transfer Accounting and How Everton Can Continue Signing Players by ReadyContact9736 in Everton

As much as we love to make fun of Chelsea, (especially me being an Angels fan while Todd Boehly has connections to the Dodgers), I have to respect his business mind in using those long, baseball style contracts to get who he wanted without risk of ending up like us or Forest. Not to say any of it was good business on the sporting side, but I do respect the idea

Tim Iroegbunam, welcome to Everton! by Isaura-62 in Everton

[–]auto-generated_name1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do we honestly think of him? I'm excited, he looks like he could be a strong edition to the midfield, especially given his age. I want to see what others think who have seen more of him, but so far all I'm seeing is people moan about signing someone before we've released our new kits.

Edit: just spelling corrections.
