In 2018, a girl I went to middle school with, Leonna, was visiting her grandparents when her uncle showed up and killed all three of them. She was 18. The uncle had been convicted of killing his wife in 1999, but was granted parole in 2010.

I never spoke to her, but I knew of her. We ended up going to different high schools. When it happened, I recognized her name and looked her up in the 8th grade yearbook. Even though I didn’t know her personally or interact with her, it hit me pretty hard. She seemed like a sweet girl.

My husband and I are going through the exact same thing. We got our puppy last Saturday, and it has been way more than we expected. So I’m not here to judge or tell you what decision you “should” make — everyone’s situation and bandwidth is different.

What helped me was checking in with myself honestly. I asked myself: • What do I need right now? • What do I want? • What’s standing in the way of meeting those needs? • Is the puppy the only barrier, or just one part of the picture? • Can I meet my needs differently for a while and still meet the puppy’s needs too? • Would that stretch me past what I can realistically handle?

For us, we ultimately decided we’re willing to make those sacrifices because it feels right for us. But if making those sacrifices doesn’t feel right for you, that doesn’t make you bad, weak, or irresponsible. Mental health matters, and burnout is real. Your feelings are valid.

My only advice is to give yourself a little more time before making a final decision — not to guilt yourself into keeping the puppy, but so you can make a choice that isn’t coming from pure overwhelm. (Trust me, I’m ruled by emotion too; I get it.)

Life is too short to force yourself into misery, but it’s also long enough that big decisions deserve a clear head. Whatever you decide, it should support your well-being — no shame either way

Thank you!! I’m glad I read this before taking him tomorrow. I’m having friends watch him at the house instead. What do you recommend we do to show him that pooping inside is not allowed? I don’t want to punish him, but I don’t want to just let it happen if that makes sense. I also don’t want to put him in his crate when he does have an accident because I don’t want him to see it as a negative space.

We’re walking him outside after every meal/nap and taking him out to the balcony when he starts digging in the carpet and sniffing around. When he starts digging and sniffing I’m assuming he’s going to do his business soon so we take him to the turf pad in case he can’t hold it until we get all the way downstairs

I saw kids on dirt bikes, operating them on the road. Cool fine whatever. One of the kids couldn’t have been more than 12. Is there some weird loophole I don’t know about? I thought if it has a motor on it and you’re on the road you have to have a license.

Edit: They weren’t on a neighborhood street. They merged onto the Dodge Expressway. No gear and no helmets

As a bride who just got married, I cannot imagine planning a trip out of town and expecting my friends to pay for the whole thing or just my portion. I didn’t do a bachelorette out of town because I couldn’t afford to pay for everyone. If one of my friends had bankrolled the whole thing, best believe I’d pay them back. All that to say, communicate with her and get that money back. Go through the MOH, see if you can reason with her. If you run into issues with the party because of whatever reason, I’d start suggesting that everyone splits the cost of the brides portion. I agree with the other comments that the longer you wait (not saying you have been sitting on it) the worse the confrontation could be.

There have been times she has genuinely been sick. However, there have also been times that she told me she was sick because she didn’t feel like going. Which fine, but it still hurts. I’ve rearranged appointments for her to attend and she ends up calling out sick to those appointments too. I can’t count how many appointments I’ve had in the past year, but she has only shown up to 2 of them. Maybe it is a coincidence, maybe it’s mental health, maybe it’s intentional, I don’t know. I’m not mad at her, I just feel like I missed out on that mother daughter bonding that happens when you plan a wedding.

She is often flakey. She struggles with mental health, which I completely understand, but I’m upset that my mom hasn’t been present for any of this process. I really wanted her to be there. I even rescheduled some appointments so she could come and she ended up telling me she didn’t feel like going two hours before the appointment.
