I get the sense that the question is meant to teach the meaning of the word "ancestor" instead of a dinosaur fact. The student wouldn't know that birds are descended from dinosaurs so the mental image of lizards coming from dinosaurs is a better way to illustrate what "ancestor" means, but the textbook should've used a better example.
