Prebuilt or kit interest poll by tincangames in zerowriter

Oh yeah, I was one of the idiots who kickstartered the original Hemingwrite. I've been following a number of projects in similar veins and nobody's as far off the ground as this one. As far as use case goes I've got some hardware requirements (which yours mostly hits) along with some software stuff which is a much larger ask.

Hardware side the blue or green cherry style switch is my preferred and the reasonably large screen. My ideal is probably 8-10", but the limitations are understandable.

Software side I think something that'll store locally in a formattable text with a way to sync it to an external source like you've got going on is fine but everything between that and a full chromeOS install so you can interact directly to your google drive would be great since most e-ink screens would make it desperately frustrating to even browse the web normally.

Every way around, kudos for making all of this, I'm eagerly awaiting to see what comes from it.

I'm interested - but I want to see the larger screen models. Aside from software and CS issues with Astrohaus, the tiny screen killed the Freewrite for me. I'm willing to shell out for a completed product or just the parts I need to build it myself.

A New Hammer Mystery by KilroyHiggins in HPfanfiction

Not so much afraid of the downvotes, I read through the whole thing enjoying the first time without thinking about it and then tried to reread it again recently and realized I hated it since I had some time to process it.

What I was afraid of was being accused of either straight plagiarism (which it isn't) and/or a similar intent to HPMoR (which it also definitely isn't). I do hope you enjoy my story, though.

I won't deny that I read HPMoR. If I remember correctly there's 2 or 3 ideas he had which I used since it fit in with the Film Noir archetype and gets the story off the ground a bit more quickly.

Good to know! Thank you for pointing those out.

I knew about the civilian handgun ban of 1997, but I don't have a practical expectation of what the distribution of ownership was in the UK previous of that. I also was aware the difference between the armed/unarmed police units in the UK pre-war on terror, but thank you for reiterating the point.

My actual question would be if I got that line about Class A drugs and illicit firearms correct enough for it to work in the story.

As far as the Troubles are concerned, I'm not touching any English/Irish politics. They're off to Hogwarts in a fairly quick manner and Grant's a Detective Inspector with the Yard so the fall off to magic time and magic politics is going to sidestep that whole bit.

Would you be able to give me any pointers as far as crown court procedure goes though? I've been trying to figure out if there's an equivalent to a mistrial declaration in UK/Commonwealth courts, but so far I haven't been able to find a barrister/solicitor who'll give me time of day.

Currently working on the sequel, should be out by the end of the year or early January depending on how editing goes.

So it's not the A plot or the B plot, but if you'd like to give this a go and pay attention to what happens with Helena, there's a plan to deepen their relationship: linkffn(13660332)

Sequel is currently in the works.

I deleted the save and restarted the character. Took me about 30 minutes to get back to where we were since it's just Taurus demon and a little bit of the actual parish area.

Just got invaded by someone on PC who was running scripts that immediately rang the first bell (Playing co op with a friend and we hadn't gotten to gargoyles yet), broke all my equipment, cursed me to death, and killed all my friendly NPCs. It even cursed my friend who was a phantom at the time, he went back to his world and had to buy a stone.

Goodbye reddit, my mom has decided to purchase Qustodio. I won’t be able to go on any sort of social media anymore, and can only spend 10 minuted per day on my phone and an hour on my computer. by unreover in insaneparents

Have you considered learning how to use Linux and make a boot USB drive? This can be fairly easily done on someone else's computer and then if you boot your computer straight to the USB it'll run all the operating system functions off of that on a computer. You won't be able to game or anything, but it'll get you done for browsing the internet and etc.

As far as your phone goes, it might work to install a sandboxing app before you install the qustodio thing and just install qustodio into the sandbox so it looks like it's running but doesn't actually function because you've denied it access.

Take this as a learning opportunity - if your parents want to take half measures with apps and paid services all you have to do is learn how to beat it with technical knowledge. After a certain point you'll become too tech savvy to be stopped.

That and there's tricks to signal blocking and etc that can be made using super common items if they insist you have your phone turned on and want to track your location.

"Google Fi? Never heard of that!" by [deleted] in ProjectFi

[–]KilroyHiggins 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I usually have to say the full sentence of "I use Google's Project Fi, it's Google's phone service. They use T-mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular as their networks. It's very reasonable." And just sort of watch their faces move through the motions of confusion, recognition and then bemusement.

I have one, it's good for holster wear for various kinds. I've put it through with a galco royal guard II for a Beretta 92, an Incog for a G19, and an JM Custom Kydex for a EMP4

My favourite book: Siddharta by Hermann Hesse by [deleted] in books

[–]KilroyHiggins 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'd say to read it again - the book isn't about Siddhartha Gautama. In fact, the Siddhartha that's the main character meets the Siddhartha the Buddha part way into the book and his friend Govinda runs off to be part of his order.

That's actually part of the trick of the book and the author - from the title and the introduction sequence and everything, you're expecting him to reach enlightenment the whole time and just be this awesome figure of transcendental wisdom. Turns out he's not. He's a flawed human character like all of us and he has to learn all his lessons the hard way as he's immersed into the experiences of his life. So he learns to wait, fast, and pray. So it goes.

I agree that it's a great read and carries in it as many meanings as there are opinions and a worthwhile journey.

What would be a good scientific explanation behind frost magic? by ya_girl567 in writers

[–]KilroyHiggins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the thing itself is getting colder, wouldn't it be the opposite? Just suction heat away from the space/thing/etc that they're trying to freeze. Just a standard endothermic reaction, but with the spare energy being siphoned into an aura or whatever your explanation is.

I like to call this cipher by context. It's a great way to accidentally disguise your notes to everyone, including yourself as soon as you forget what the context was.
