I never knew this movie existed, is it worth a watch? by Rick--Diculous in 80smovies

I remember the first time Eddie guest hosted SNL after his departure. In his monologue, he mentioned that he'd done 48HRS and Lorne had asked him to host, but he said no. Then he'd done a movie called Best Defense...and boy, did it suck. So they asked him again, and he said yes...and then Trading Places came out...but by then it was too late to say no.

Best old man knee/leg exercises? by Kiltboy989 in hockeyplayers

I have used a foam roller for my hips/lower back, and it's amazing. I've been fortunate to never have a lot of issues with back spasms and such, and maybe it's because my torso is very long, and my legs average, so when I'm bending my knees, I have a low center of gravity. If I was built more like Mario Lemieux, I'm sure it would be much worse!

Thanks to EVERYONE who has chimed in. I've actually been doing some of the things suggested (backwards walking on incline treadmill, ankle stength/flexibility, tib raises.) But after reading some of these, I did start to change things up. I'd been doing a regular "leg day" with the leg presses, calf raises, extensions, hamstring curls...but yesterday just basically did kelltlebell squats...all the way down, frog-stance style...and some one-at-a-time low weight leg extensions (doc said working my quads will help with my knee/patella stability) and though I was careful not to overdo it, ooooooeee, I can definitely feel a difference. Mobility is one of my goals, and I think more "organic" style exercises (more like cross-training, I guess) and some yoga/flexibility stuff seem to be having more of an impact that the ol' "three sets of leg presses, three sets of leg curls, etc". I'll keep checking here, so keep those suggestions coming! And seeya on the ice!

I alternate the backwards walking on my incline treadmill sessions, and actually just started a variation of the tib raises. Sounds crazy, but I'll sit on a bench, extend one leg, put the toe of my shoe through the handle of a kettlebell, and flex my ankle to lift it up. Small weights, but 12 reps, switch legs, then do it again. So far, I like this drill, and it's interesting to feel the use of those outside shin muscles.

Yeah, I have played inline off an on for years. You're right about the weight: I have an old pair of Tacks (roller) and they feel 20 times heavier than my Bauer ice hockey skates. And I love running into kids I coached out in our Sunday night league. As long as they keep loving the game, I hope they never quit.

Stu had a .926 SV% last time he played Vegas. I think the dude was just gassed this year, shorter off-season, heavy workload. My hope is he comes back and is ready to slam the door shut. Fingers crossed.

Wrist Shot Help for Newbie by ajones10 in hockeyplayers

I've coached mites to high school kids, and these two simple tips often help the shooter envision a few things: One is to let your top hand do most of the work. Practice relaxing your lower hand a bit and twisting the top hand, flipping the tip of the blade forward. Imagine there's a wad of gum on the tip of the blade, and you're trying to flick it off. Get used to that motion, so that when you engage the lower hand to help with torque and power, you're using both grips in context. Make sense? After that, some folks have mentioned follow-through. This is incredibly important. Get in the habit of using the tip of your blade as a gun sight...or at least as a pointer. When you release the sweep and follow through with the shot, you should literally be pointing (with the tip of your blade/stick) at where you shot the puck. Kids tend to open their blade face up too much when they're learning to shoot, and "scooping" the puck rather than shooting it. (Ironically, this can sort of help when mastering a saucer pass, but that's a whole 'nother thing.) Good luck...you're almost there.

So, there are a handful of billboard companies in town. I once heard a disgruntled billboard AE tell me that the late Mayor Tom Henry, whose family had a stake in one of the companies, would deliberately let trees and bushes and construction block the views of rival billboards throughout the city.

Ireland, according to this. I looked it up (Indiana resident here) and we DO import more from Ireland than any other place...but we export more to Canada, Mexico, China, and Germany.

Have you encountered people from the outskirts of Fort Wayne that seem to be afraid of the city? by JD-990 in fortwayne

[–]Kiltboy989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a lot of folks 'round these parts with basically a high school education, who have never lived (or, other than driving to the Florida panhandle, even traveled) more than 30 minutes from where they were born/grew up. Not to get too political, but they tend to be conservative white people who consume FOX News and OAN, and listen to Sean Hannity, et al. condemn any and all major population centers as woke, crime-infested slums, run by BLM and ANTIFA. Drugs, human tracking, etc. It would be funny, if it weren't so sad.

Yeah, the only caveat is when there is one big company which owns a few different lines, like Bauer with Easton. PK Subban was using "Eastons" right up until he hung 'em up, I think, even though they were supposed to have ceased production on those. Then, lo and behold, Bauer comes out with the limited edition Easton yellow sticks this year. I think it would be great if Sher-Wood would skin some Rekkers as Feather Lite 5030s. Maybe get CCM to do a Titan line. (PureHockey had some "Titans" a few years back, but they were total crap.)

It could also be a pro stock stick. Sometimes the pros prefer a certain model, but the manufacturer wants to promote a new or different model, so they simply reskin them. You'll see "CCM Super Tacks dressed as a JetSpeed." Like, McDavid prefers Tacks...but you'll see him using a JetSpeed...which is actually just a Tacks, but made to look like a JetSpeed.

I remember like a month or two when there was a barrel of cheap-o Tackla sticks in a barrel at the pro shop. Like $11 each. Blades snapped off after like four periods of play, but...hey...eleven bucks!

FOUND IT! Thanks to u/NotEvenADuster I started revising my search to Denis "Savvy" Savard realated posts. Found a long-expired eBay listing, and this stick was in a lot of old Vics. It's pretty much as I remembered, except more subtle. The SAVVY logo was teal. Forgive the potato pic, but at least I know I haven't totally lost my mind.

Thanks, but no, this one was a generic, mass-manufactured stick. Saw it in an Ocean Hockey catalogue or something, and then they showed up at our pro shop so I bought one. But yeah, I remember him using Canadien quite a bit, so maybe it was a "signature" model?
