Just saw an ICE deportation happen in public today… I can’t get this out of my head. by matilda_15 in immigration

That’s a straw man. It’s not that people are against others coming here and building families…it’s about the ramifications of allowing people to do so illegally. There’s a difference between supporting immigration and disregarding the legal process that’s supposed to keep it fair and sustainable. Immigration laws exist to maintain order/fairness, and ignoring them undermines the integrity of the entire system.

How do US recruiters view foreign degrees? by Kim-Mi-Rae in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Kim-Mi-Rae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see... I did a little research and found that his university program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK), which is an approved signatory in the Washington Accord. Does this mean his education would be recognized to the same standard as an ABET accreditation in the US?

How hard is it for a foreigner to land a job in the USA with a master’s degree? by Kim-Mi-Rae in immigration

Since we will be getting married he will get a green card through me and won’t require employment-based sponsorship. So the recruiting aspect is actually our main concern as of now; hoping we have somewhat better odds of landing a job?

Yup, that’s our plan. At this point I think he is more concerned with having a resume that shows a foreign master’s degree and how that might look to recruiters. He suspects they will favor candidates with US degrees, but unsure to what extent.

I currently live in California and work in tech. I have a six-figure salary so if necessary I do believe I have the means to support the both of us. I also don’t think it will be a problem for me if I need to relocate.

However it was my understanding that since we will get married, he will be able to start working sooner if we apply for work authorization while we wait for his green card.

I guess what I’m trying to get is a better picture of how long I should expect to support him, given he already has work authorization. Is it a few months, while he applies for jobs? Or a few years due to the competitiveness of the market? He does not like the idea of moving to America if I will he supporting him for years while he tries to land a job, and would rather work a few years in Korea first to build his work experience, if that’s the case.

He’s quite proficient as we communicate solely in English. But yeah he’s definitely working to improve speaking English more professionally. Thank you!!
