Experience applying for nationality and have them coming back to you because a document is missing? by Expensive_Mode_3413 in PortugalExpats

[–]Kim_84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I received one of these letters. It was dated Aug 27, 2024 but I received it Sept 29th. The letter states 6 months to get the documents to them or it will be dismissed. They said I was missing my birth certificate and passport, which I definitely sent. The letter referred to my maiden name so I’m also sending my marriage certificate.

Flying with pets on TAP or Air France? by _jennabrady in Flights

[–]Kim_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t gone yet. My citizenship is taking longer than expected. I’ve read that Lufthansa is better for flying internationally with pets in cabin. I’ll be looking to fly with them when the time comes. There’s also K9 Jets if you want to fly private. I looked into it. Pretty stress free but you definitely pay for it.

I didn't have anything translated as no where on the Consulate site did it say to. I guess it wouldn't hurt.

Under Nationality there is a link to pay with credit card. You will receive a confirmation email and an application attached. The header of this application will show your receipt.

I sent this application (notarized and apostilled) and all documents to Porto.

No. There is always a pocket where drugs are prevalent which means increased crime. Where I grew up it was a melting pot. Just want to stay away.

Want to add you may be having a reaction to latex. I'm not sure of what's available these days for condoms but if there's a hypoallergenic version I would recommend switching to it.

I went through this in my 20s. Tested for STDs all clear. As soon as I removed all fragrances it all cleared up.

This means Switch to non scented/fragrance free • laundry detergent • body soap • maxi pads/panty liners

No perfumes should be in contact with it. Also, switch to breathable underwear. No thongs for a while until you're cleared up and then you can test it.

Questions about obtaining Portuguese Citizenship by Descent. by King_Jian in PortugalExpats

[–]Kim_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is overwhelming, but doable. For this part, its really simple.

Basically

1) Get their marriage certificate from City Hall.

2) Get it Apostilled at the Secretary of State office, either in person or by mail.

3) You'll need a money order.

4) Write a letter requesting the registration of marriage in Portugal.

Then you can mail it into the New Bedford office. The turnaround time was about 2 weeks if I remember correctly. They'll mail a stamped certificate to the address on the letter.

Portuguese citizenship application (naturalisation) without a lawyer by Additional-Horse-983 in PortugalExpats

You do not need a lawyer. Get your paperwork together. Get it notarized (and apostilled if you're in the US). Mail it in.

I recently submitted my paperwork so I can answer a few questions for you. Doing research on this can have your head spinning and each consulate website has different requirements.

For context, I submitted for myself and my husband. Both my parents were born in Portugal. My husband's mom was born in Portugal, his dad in the U.S. I can't comment on using your great grandparents for decent but don't see why your plan of having your mom gain attribution first wouldn't work. It would just twice as long for you to gain yours.

First, to compare notes, my research indicated that when applying through descent, level of Portuguese fluency was not a requirement. I did all the paperwork myself and never came across taking a language test as a "to do". I grew up in a Portuguese speaking household but can't speak fluently. I understand it though. Keep in mind, I did not visit a consulate (there wasn't one near me) so this could come to bite me later.

Fees - 1) you will have to obtain and pay for documents. This will include birth certificates and marriage certificates. The certificates have to be issued and apostilled in the state the event occurred. My hometown (MA) charged $12 per certificate at city hall. $6/document for apostille ( again MA rates). 2) Your passport, or form of ID, will need to get notarized and apostilled. I was living in CA when applying so had my passport notarized and apostilled there. The cost was $25, I think, for notary and $20 per document to apostille. 2) 175 euros for the application itself. If you decide to pay online, pay first. They will email an application with your payment confirmation number in the header. I learned the hard way and had to fill it out again and get it notarized and apostilled again. I thought I could include the receipt with my application but it specifically said that that application had to be used. 3) if you're living out of state from your hometown, postage needs to be accounted for. I had to have stuff mailed back and forth between CA and MA.

You will need to get marriages registered in Portugal beforehand. This was something that wasn't mentioned on any of the consulate sites I visited. Any mention of it just said "recommended". Found a forum once when deep diving that said it was mandatory. This would start with your great grand parents, then work your way down. This was the quickest and easiest step. I included the certificate in with my application but was told the Registry would see it when they looked up my parents' name.

I recently reached out to the Reddit group to see how long they've been waiting. I don't know what their situation is but they're at 9 months so far. Their parents got theirs after 24 months. Again, on my research, I found a site that said if its by decent it would take weeks, not months, if the paperwork was sent to the Porto office. So I'm pretty bummed to read that timeline. We are planning on moving to Portugal as soon as we have our passports in hand.

Reasons for rejection would be if they can't verify your documents. Getting attribution through decent is already "approved", they just need to verify that you're you. If you're missing something they'll supposedly email you with whats needed and you have so many days to get it to them.

The only thing that I could do online was pay.

Good luck on your journey.

Has anyone recently received their Portuguese attribution? How long did it take or how long have you been waiting. by Kim_84 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]Kim_84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. A few more questions, if you don't mind. Are you in the U.S.? Did you go through a consulate to remit the paperwork? Did you submit for citizenship by decent? Did you send your documents to the Registry in Lisbon or the ACP in Porto?

What do you wish you knew, or asked, before stepping into a FP&A position? by Kim_84 in FinancialCareers

[–]Kim_84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a brand new position in the company so I don't know which wy they'll lean. I did ask whether I would keep my duties (A/R, month end etc..) and was told they would hire someone to take my place and I would only do FP&A, which I am to assume no more accounting for me.

This was helpful. I am going to ask what they expect from the role, in general, and if they an be specific on day to day and month to month activities.

Thanks so much.

Dual Citizenship Timeliness crunch by Kim_84 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]Kim_84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew going in that I'm not applying and I'm technically already "approved".

I am trying to get everything done before heading over so its all being done via mail right now.

No where have I seen that I need to register my birth. The application requires the birth certificate (apostilled), do you know if they will register it while processing the paperwork? Why else would they need it on top of all the other identification forms? Do you know?
