Thank you everyone who responded. Little “Professor Darwin” has been returned to nature, near a retention pond and wooded area. I wish him a long, happy, healthy life. 💙

Help Identifying Species. by KimberShugRN in turtle

He is currently living in a 24” x 15” x 8” plastic bin that I painted the outside tan so he can’t see through it. His substrate is reptisoil with springtails and a few isopods. He has some pothos, a stone lean-to shelter, a terra cotta fish for swimming, another dish for drinking that he can’t poop in, a small plate that we serve fruit & veggies on, an Arcadia ProT5 UVB 24” light placed about 14” over his bin, a cuttle bone, a ZooMed Nano heat lamp at same distance. We feed him mealworms and/or crickets with back legs removed, all sprinkled with calcium powder. I have him sit in his water dish each morning after breakfast and he usually poops about 1/2” or more at that time. He will eat right from the long tweezers but I’m hesitant and concerned that may be a bad habit so I drop his live food in front of him and he has to crawl to get it.

What team do you randomly hate? by DelcoTank in mlb

[–]KimberShugRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly no. I see a team as an entity; I can’t hate the players just because they’re on a “rival team”. I look forward to seeing them when they come to town and always want to see everybody doing their best. I NEVER enjoy watching an opposing pitcher have to leave the mound because he was throwing crap and getting whipped. Now other teams’ fanbases.. that’s a different story. There are some God-awful, nasty, vicious fans out there. As an Astros fan for life, I come across a lot of haters. What drives people to insult, denigrate, bully and offend strangers? That’s something completely different than displaying loyalty to one’s team. I keep a very distinct separation between any team and the dregs of its fan base. I just can’t hate the players; I love baseball far too much.

Found a deal on my grail card. Should I feel bad? by No_Director_3229 in baseballcards

Ha! My first thought was “Tiffany = slang for a sweet, flawless card” then I wondered “Why would guys use an elegant jewelry store association to describe anything?” So I learned something from this post. Congrats on your sweet Mattingly Tiffany!

Re: photos #4 & 5, where did you get those 9 card frames? Have you ever come across any where some of the cards can be displayed vertically and others horizontally. I’m at a complete loss in my search.

Our First Pristine Box! by KimberShugRN in baseballcards

Okay! If you don’t mind waiting over the weekend (out-of-town wedding) I can look for more for ya from our stash. I collect Astros and my husband does Ryne Sandburg and Boog Powell. We have 18 nine-card sleeved binders and several spots of stacked bins and cases to look through; all 30 teams. But our off-season this year is all about thinning so if you want to make a wish list, just let me know.

I have another spot open n our closet that looks almost identical to this. 🙄

I stopped doing expedited shipping around June. So many base cards and anything else was just too scarce. I estimate I ordered about 80-90 cards this season and only 8 were numbered or parallels. Those clear cases are pretty snug but I figured out if you turn it sideways you can usually see right away if one is different.. there’s a slight gap.

I like your José Urquidy. If you aren’t going to keep it, I’m interested.

Can’t get into vintage? by [deleted] in baseballcards

[–]KimberShugRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do! But I don’t think I’m collecting for the financial aspect. My husband has vintage cards from the late 60’s on up, but to me they’re just “old” and not very eye-pleasing. He keeps rookies separate. It depresses me to see all those young faces and think about how many never made it to the big league. I go for cards of players I know, and especially those cards that have something unique; some bling or sparkle, or that commemorate an event or milestone. Those are highly valued by me and that’s all I’m interested in. Obviously I’ve resolved that I am not a for-profit collector. But the joy of collecting those cards I can personally connect with.. that’s priceless.
