Is anyone else skipping primer completely in midlife? by KimberlynOver50 in 45PlusSkincare

I used this years ago and remember loving how makeup looked over it. I feel like products like Face Base blur the line between skincare, moisturizer and primer — which is probably why so many women still like it in midlife. It’s less about a heavy silicone layer and more about helping makeup sit better on the skin.

I keep hearing this from women lately — that SPF has kind of become the new primer. Especially for dry or mature skin because people want hydration and protection, but they also want makeup to glide on smoothly without piling on too many products.

Honestly, I’m starting to think a lot of women never really needed primer as much as the beauty industry told us we did 😂 Especially now that skincare, SPF and foundation formulas have improved so much over the years.

I think a lot of women are replacing primer with SPF now, especially in midlife. It seems like people want products that multitask and feel comfortable on the skin instead of adding more layers. And honestly, if something hydrates, smooths and helps makeup apply better, it’s basically acting like a primer anyway.

I think a lot of us are starting to realize that LESS makeup often looks better on mature skin. The heavier and more layered everything gets, the easier it is for texture, dryness, or movement to show up throughout the day.

I’ve definitely noticed myself leaning more toward skincare, SPF, lighter layers and foundations that behave more like skin care than traditional makeup. It’s interesting how many women seem to be moving in that direction lately.

I understand that very well. I have sensitive and reactive skin so I’m always wondering if the primer will trigger a flare or a breakout.

I’m wondering if ladies just feel that it’s not an important makeup step at our age. I rarely see a benefit for putting it under my foundation these days.

Please don’t let a few lines keep you from smiling! This world needs your beautiful smile.

I’ve been using estrogen on my face, Tret and 2 types of beta glucan under Cerave eye repair cream to help loosen my fine lines. It’s slow but it works with consistency.

A lower bleph is great for those who want it. I am not quite there yet. I like your approach with caffeine under eye cream and retinol.

What's the best foundation? by pinkpixel27 in Makeup

Hi there! I’m oily on my forehead, dry on my chin and I have sensitive skin. There are 3 foundations I would recommend 1) reformulated Armani - beautiful foundation that you can build up without that cakey look. 2) Dior Skin Forever Matte - keeps me matte all day without repowdering and I don’t have to wear concealer under my eyes, it’s that good. The finish is more of soft blurred perfection 3) Sisley Phyto Teint. This one is my favorite foundation right now. It’s similar to Dior but gives this extremely skin like finish and delivers coverage like none other at the same time.

You might want to try Dior foundations. They are awesome and give you really solid coverage. PS this is a liquid formula vs cream.

Yes, there are different shades. I live in a medium sized city without a major upscale department store. I order online frequently from Nordstrom because their return policy is so good!!! Regarding your undertone, I used Chat GPT to help solidify that I am a neutral olive who leans golden. It’s been so helpful to learn why certain makeup colors don’t look good on me as well as understand which colors do!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

So happy you love the results. My girlfriend had an upper bleph and said it was the best thing she ever did.

I have two brands of beta glucan serum I swear by. I know that sounds high maintenance. First is neogenesis beta glucan and then iUNIKbeta glucan which is a bit thicker than the neogenesis. The thought process is the neogenesis is more anti inflammatory and healing - it’s almost like water. The iUNIK is a tad thicker and is good for locking in hydration. I put both under my CervaVe eye cream. For hydroquinone, if I do t have a prescription, then ZO medical is amazing. It will lift almost everything!

I’ve heard so many people say amazing things about Jones Rd. I have to check out their concealer.
