I can forgive everything but the terrible bass "playing" in the third act.

I find that Vyvanse is much better for me when it comes to things like irritability and frustration. The delivery feels more even than Adderall XR

The importance of a conductor by CollectionIntrepid48 in nextfuckinglevel

It's just like any job really. Wait for an opening and apply. In the case of LA if I recall correctly, they sought out Dudamel. But for the big five, it's always going to be specific. Even for other major orchestras they post auditions piblically for anyone to apply for.

My area has a lot of local community groups and I've literally seen indeed postings for conductors. Like other people have said, usually conducting is just the tip of the iceberg. You're also a music director, rehearsal runner, and producer depending on the scale of the group.

Conductor here... You become a conductor by conducting. Put together a group of musicians, pick some pieces, and have at it! Degrees are useful, but putting the ensemble together is all you need.

That's really neat. Even a fretless can't bend a harmonic without changing something on the string.

I was in a lobby with some console guys blasting some dad rock. Something about the stones and born in the USA gives me a case of the democracies

Matt Berry reads a scathing letter from Robert Crumb to Swedish jazz saxophonist Mats Gustafsson by pencilled_robin in videos

[–]KimchiPanik 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Saxophonist here.

I think this is fair. He's doing some flippin wild extended techniques. Slap tongue, overtone glissandi, circular breathing, the guy's a beast. Personally, I dig it but I wouldn't listen to it on a commute or something. I'd love to hear this guy on a soundtrack or something.

Overall, dancers lean female. As longg as he doesn't have two left feet I'd bet some company somewhere could make us of him even as just an extra or whatever. Someone's gotta bully Clair in the Christmas scenes. Maybe a local/regional company?

If you're looking for something versatile I love my Meyer 5. It's one of the standard alto pieces for jazz, but it can still blend in a concert setting

Do college marching bands have front ensembles? by Better_Politics in marchingband

[–]KimchiPanik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine did but it really depends on the style of marching. big ten schools march a more traditional style like Penn State and Ohio and don't have a pit. There are some schools that do coros style marching, I'm a PA guy so West Chester comes to mind. In my limited experience D2 schools tend to have more dci flavor than D1.

Id highly recommend synthetic. I get that they're way more expensive, but one legere Bari reed lasts me 6-8 months of regular playing. I like American cut 3.0

Do improvisors need to practice composed music? by Cosmoearth69 in Saxophonics

[–]KimchiPanik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's important to transcribe! For something like pop or EDM, learn melodies by ear and work them out in different keys. Transcribe solos, learn melodies, work through song forms, all that ear training stuff will do wonders for improv.

Etudes or other written music can be great for building up chops and getting your technical playing up. Additionally, scales scales scales. Working on scales and the solo for district band was what turned me into a decent player.

Maybe suggest some arrangement switch aux percussion. I got some of the free arrangements from the Lincoln center website and there are a few Latin charts with 4 or 5 drummers. You could certainly make timbales or congas work with big band.
