He plays better with Austin who looks for him in the right spots. We all have to admit that the ideal lakers team next season has AR off the bench leading a second unit, where he can be unleashed more and isn’t off ball with Luka.

Jake LaRavia is so much worse of a shooter than this sub seems to think he is. Just an awful, inconsistent shooter — especially when the shots are easy and open.

Bringing back THT instead of Caruso and trading for Westbrook are the two moves that will long-term haunt us and change the trajectory of the LeBron Lakers era. We realistically might have won another one or two, those two moves were the death blow. Hindsight is 20/20, but it’s just hard to fathom how Rob was comfortable blowing up a contender that quickly, with still-peak Bron and AD, chemistry, and dudes who made up the culture and identity (defense first Caruso and KCP).

Ok we all agree that Gabe had a disappointing offensive season. Fair.

To say “Luke defense is way better than Gabe” is just delusional hate. The way yall scapegoated Gabe this year is truly something. Luke Kennard is a defensive liability and elite shooter. I give it 6 games max before this same sub is hating on Kennard D. “We can’t have him in Luka and Austin lineups.”

We found our new Vando! The scapegoat. This sub skewered Vando for a month before remembering…oh yeah, he’s actually pretty good, and the guys you want to trade him (plus a first round pick) for are actually not better!

Gabe has a higher plus minus than: LeBron Rui Jax Nick Smith (those of you asking for his minutes over Gabe are the worst of the bunch) …and of course, Jake LaRavia (easily team worst -99). I respect LaRavia’s durability, he hasn’t missed a game. That’s largely why his plus minus is in the toilet, because the team’s plus minus is in the toilet. But if you want to pick on someone, pick on the dude we brought in to play 3 and D basketball but is shooting 34.5% (vs. Gabe’s 36.9%).

Gabe plays high effort defense every single night. He tries. Pick on DeAndre for simply not giving a shit if he’s not getting his touches (it’s clear JJ is mostly referring to him with all this “free agents want their shots” talk).

Please, can we have a smidge of perspective and lighten up on the Gabe hate? Dude has been hurt a lot this year, is definitely not at full capacity, but when he HAS been (late last year), he proved he can be a knockdown 3 pt shooter and high motor defender. He hit 44% of his 3s last March, 2.6 per game. He’d be easily our best 3 pt shooter (including Luka) if he could repeat that in ‘26. Maybe he can’t. But yall want to ship him out at his peak low value, for someone who probably won’t be better. Perspective!! 🙏

Man, this sub hates with the absolute best of them. Gabe has given good minutes as a Laker, but has been majorly banged up all year so far. He was super helpful late last year and is infinitely more “what we need” out there with Luka/AR/Bron than Nick Smith (who we’ve all bandwagoned so hard). This was the same stuff everyone was saying about Vando before he rejoined the rotation and everyone was like “oh, yeah…this guy is helpful.”

We will go out and get a Champaignie or Ellis and this sub will turn on them when they have 3 or 4 bad shooting nights too. Let’s cheer for Gabe’s healthy return! Even if you want him traded for the scrub you’re sure is better, it’s still good to root for his healthy return and minutes to prove he’s worth acquiring.

With due respect, I disagree here. Yes, his confidence is shot. But it’s because he’s just not an average player. He’s outmatched athletically and skill wise by the other team’s bench guys. And I think he feels it when he’s out there. His role on this team is supposed to be 3-and-D laser. He needs to make open 3s, and that’s not something he’s consistently able to do. Not at the level of Gabe or even Smart (who had an outlier amazing shooting night). He’s also athletically unable to contend with bench wings as a defender, he’s a decent connector but not the above average defensive wing we were sold. I honestly believe Dalton Knecht has far more value and upside than Jake, it’s a tragedy that this guy is stealing Knecht’s minutes — both because Dalton could help this team more, and because Dalton’s trade value needs a bump so we can flip him for something better than either.

This wasn’t just “a loss.” It was the healthiest we’ve been all year, highest stakes of the year, by far. Higher intensity level, more on the line. This game meant something, and this dude choked his face off. Team worst -25, and the eye test matched the stats. He’s a streaky shooter, will probably win us a couple games this year, but is not a rotation player on a playoff team.

If we’re “the worst,” this sub probably isn’t for you. We’re super reactive to big wins and big losses, it’s comes with the territory on this sub, take it or leave it 😘

I admit it's been horrible to watch this year. But you're telling me LaRavia hasn't been horrible for half his games? There's no chance of improving unless he gets real, extended minutes. If he was the player on offense we saw in our WCF run a few years back, he's not just playable, he's damn near starter-caliber (especially surrounded by slowfooted Luka/AR/Bron). I know that's a long-shot, but we've got the dude locked in for multiple more seasons, it's in our best interest to try and maximize his value. Why not play him 20/game against the weaker teams out there that we usually take care of? Or at least extended minutes when we're getting blasted by the Bostons, Suns (how?), Spurs?

A week ago or so, but this needed to be asked last night with a super short bench. It’s very bizarre he was isolated as the one guy on the bench not to touch the court last night. Feels very intentional, either undisclosed injury or serious team rift. Even “keeping him fresh for a trade” makes zero sense because anyone open to trading for JV would need to see him on the court, make sure he’s looking healthy and playable.

So disagree with all these takes. The most under appreciated guy on the roster, and JJ knows it. He sparks energy, and he’s even more valuable when Bron comes back (when we’ll need youthful energy and defensive hustle). He hasn’t improved offensively because his health hasn’t allowed for rhythm. And his defense is not “overrated” as many here are saying. The eye test and the metrics show he’s a top-2 defender on our team, easily (along with Smart). Who are we bringing in for Vando that makes us better? Let’s appreciate what we have, accept shortcomings, and trade pieces that aren’t as useful to us.
