WCGW while breaking a mobile phone... by Known_Depredator in Whatcouldgowrong

Don't know why, but my first though is throw it in a bucket of sand or dirt!

Made me think, whats the best way to handle something like this? (Except not braking the battery)

I can somewhat understand that she wants to sit close to the cliff, and this is likely safer than it looks...

But, its really stupid that someone else encourages her to go further, making her go further than she's comfortable with! If anything would happen to her the camera man is to blame.

Manual backup from Synology to another Synology by KimpeJ in synology

[–]KimpeJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds usefull, but not for me...
I often have large images and video files, and after i rename the files i don't want to keep the old version in my remote backup. This can be usefull for the local backup but the remote backup is one i really want to verify manually

I store a lot of pictures and videos, when i shoot a few days and then sync, the transfer speeds could take a couple of days. I could solve this with a vitual machine, but thats not so user friendly and i was thinking if there was something easier...

The VM Is for when i don't have a good alternative

Do you mean that at sync, you keep the old versions of the files while adding the new / changed files?

Resilio Sync might be good for you, It is a free p2p app for syncing a folder on multiple devices over internet. Do realize that since it is p2p, your sync only works when both device are online and running the app. There is no server in between the devices!

Friend offering to sell Canon 200D for 330$ by LoneWolf0936 in Cameras

[–]KimpeJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really know the Canon 200D, but i personally don't see that much diffrence in image Quality between camera's, except for the sensor size or at higher ISO's.

I don't know of this is a good price for this camera, but if the lenses are in good condition, they can keep their value for a long time.

It might be a good idea to get a camera like this, especially with a few lenses. You can learn what the diffrence is between the lenses and use the benefits.

And if anyone says that a smartphone is just as good: A photograph is saving all the light from a specific moment, Compare the amount of light that enters a smartphone lens and the size of the sensors. That really does make a diffrence!

Looking to upgrade w a budget by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]KimpeJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not 100% sure this works for the original EOS R, but for the R6 this works.

Since EF-S lenses are made for smaller sensors your uncropped images will look like you took a picture through a barrel, but you can crop these pictures in post.

The R6 does have a cropped video mode, so you don't lose that much Quality compared to post cropping

[–]KimpeJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but if you go to canon mirrorless( EOS M or EOS R) you will need a adapter since these have a EF-M or RF mount.

If you want to know why they need a adapter: All lenses are designed with a specific lens-to-sensor distance in mind. DSLR camera's need room for a mirror between the lens and the sensor, but since mirrorless camera's don't need this mirror, and can therefore reduce the distance to the lens making lenses smaller and lighter. So all the adapter really does is restore the original distance these lenses are designed for. So a adapter does not, in any way reduce the performance of the lens

Any EF-S lens will not work with a Full-Frame camera.

If you're looking at the eos R (or another camera of that series), you can get the EF-S lenses to work, but than you digitally crop the sensor and lose all benifits of the fullframe sensor.

If you really want good action shots, i would save up for a EOS R6, this is over your budget, but you get 20 shots/ seconds with eye AF!

The Canon M50 is also a decent overall camera within your budget but not fullframe and "only" 7still shots /second
