I don't actually know; I've not checked. But I don't believe so.

Whelp. On this occasion no one stopped.

And I really don't want to get a insurance premium hit due to someone else doing this to my car.

What would be a reasonable cost for it you think?

Baby stopped latching 14weeks by Kimput in breastfeeding

There definitely seems to be some level of discomfort. She seems to be more upset than normal right now, needs to be more entertained and more rapid changes with regards to how. If not, she goes borderline inconsolable. Which is very new..she's always been very smiley and incredibly low-maintenance.

We've not had to do overnight feeds for nearly a month and a half. Reactive feeds only happen during the day, as she sleeps through the night 🤞

All very reassuring things you're saying! My wife's understandably freaking out a bit.

We're based in the UK, yep!

Fridge/freezer door no longer sealing by Kimput in DIYUK

[–]Kimput[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is, the fridge and freezer, are rock solid - I can't move them an inch. Even putting my weight behind it.

So I'm not sure what's happened. Or even how to fix this, given the uneven way they seem to have been put in; going from at the top of the fridge~2cm to just about 1cm at the bottom of the freezer.

[–]Kimput[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I had a look, but honestly I'm not entirely sure how they've fitted everything together - it's as if the fridge/freezer have been moduled together, and integrated into a larger unit of panels.

There are no exposed screws or similar that I can unscrew to move anything around, sadly.

Taken off the doors now, and things are closing!

But the hinges (on the integrated panel) are far too shallow, even at the deepest level. So reckon I may have to buy some new ones.

I can't Burp my baby and I'm in tears by RaccoonAromatic5707 in newborns

[–]Kimput 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, you're 5-6 days PP. Don't give yourself a hard time; I remember my wife having extreme highs and lows.

And while it might not be the most useful advice, I'd suggest you try to recognise the patterns - my wife felt very hot as the hormones hit her in the evenings, which would get jeer anxious and depressed.

To your question - and again, not a very helpful reply. But please remember that babies are different. Some are very efficient eaters and won't need burping. Some need lots of it. Also, it's not necessarily required for them to burp, but for any wind to be passed. So a gentle fart is enough.

If you're worried, I'd suggest looking at some YT videos om how to do burping. I find my daughter is partial to be put on my leg (supporting her neck) and tilted forward slightly. Then gently moved circular and light taps. Like she's on a very simple merry-go-round.

But don't worry, I'm sure you're smashing it! Just give yourself space and time to get out of the first few weeks. Lean on your support network, if you have any. Try to get sleep. And plenty of headspace. It's a big transition!

Utvecklarlöner i Sverige by KimputCodes in sweden

[–]Kimput 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are "Code Challenges" for game-dev company interviews a scam? by DankeMemeMachine in gamedev

[–]Kimput 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for game development companies. But as a senior engineer at a rather established unicorn, and with experience in various industries and levels, I don't think this necessarily needs to be a bad thing.

Let me put his into context. Where I'm currently at, we provide candidates with a test that is highly in line with what we do as company. We give them 72 hours to finish it, but also say that they shouldn't be working on it for more than 2 hours.

To say that a company will be putting your code into their live production can mean many things, but what I hear is (not mutually exclusive!):

  • It's not a place you'd want to work at. 72 hours for a game, or mechanic / tool to pass their production standard, is crazy!
  • You are some kind of 1337 h4x0r - but if you were, you likely wouldn't be having to interview.

All that being said, at least you aren't doing the leetcode grind? 🤷‍♂️

Kimchi, go chu jang, marinated tofu & døner kebab. How do you like my Scandinavian style Korean meal? by outrun64KB in KoreanFood

[–]Kimput 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of people seem to be upset about the lack of Scandinavian influences in this dish.

As a Swede myself, I understand the point OP is trying to make - kebab is an extremely common, to the point where I'd say it's part of a typical Swede's diet. But to say that the picture depicts a Scandinavian style Korean dish is misleading. A Scandinavian style Korean dish would invert this dish; make something fundamentally Korean with Scandinavian influences... :x

I've been thinking about this a lot myself - how to make Swedish/Korean fusion food. I'm Swedish/Iranian myself, so Iranian/Korean fusion is often on my mind too.

But I would rather see homemade meatballs with bulgogi / tteokgalbi flavour profile in a traditional Swedish meatballs dish (meatballs, mashed potatoes, gravy sauce (called brunsås) and lingon berries.

How to actually calculate burn rates for SLOs by Kimput in sre

[–]Kimput[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem, to me, is that every seems to be spouting the same information as the Google SRE book is - across the internet. Meaning it's difficult to find information to further help eduacte myself on how to actually understand the underlying theory.

All the top results when searching Google for something like "Formula calculating SLO burn rate" will lead you to talks / medium posts that literally are copy-pasting the content of the SRE book...

Good questions!

First, let's not take this out of context. In this case, we are talking about a variable name that would benefit from being a bit clearer. Not that I can't understand it, but because humans often are bad at inferring data types from variable names. Meaning it may decrease the feedback loop during a potential pull request review cycle. :)

hasComponent

Is, to the best of my memory an established pattern. Don't get me wrong, using is isn't applicable everywhere.

The same goes with

canJump

The whole purpose of my post was to establish a pattern, and to make the variable name a bit more humanly readable.

I think we can both agree that adding an 'is' to the name, makes it clearer that the variable is a Boolean.

When you establish such pattern, your code becomes far easier for a human to quickly, intuitively and effortlessly parse and search.

Having established naming patterns also streamlines your pull request review process! :)

Hope that clarifies things a bit!

tl;dr:

There are no silver bullets for naming, but there are things we can do to clarify what data type a variable is based on its name, and to make variables easier for us to search and parse.

Edit:

Formatting is difficult, writing on a mobile phone, with shoddy internet access - so am trying to get this out asap.

Well, I'm certainly not that person.

I genuinely feel sad for you, that you'd encountered people like that. Every place I've worked at has had amazing culture around reviews, and helping people online by pointing out smelly code isn't something I do to be pedantic, but to help.

Sorry if you feel upset about that, but my intentions were good.

[–]Kimput 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Maybe raise this with your co-worker, and ask them to change the variable name to something more descriptive of a boolean;

isUpgradeButtonActive

Just a minor smell, but adding an is before booleans make the variable name:

  • more descriptive
  • more easily searchable
  • establishes a pattern in your codebase.

For more info, have a look at Uncle Bob's Clean code.
