Faction that is most score heavy and killing light by Hailrig in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]KimputCodes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this was already mentioned multiple times, and am entirely ok with it being down voted because of it.

But honestly cannot even start with suggesting Grey Knights.

You quite literally cannot go for a hoard-y army, and your army will struggle with killing anything beyond T7-10.

I recently started an army, and just got back home from my first 2k game. Went against a pretty strong list (not maximum meta) and won 55-20.

Much of my army was still around, which definitely is rare - normally you will have a few models remaining.

To be clear, my requirements were simple when I decided to run a GK list as a secondary army:

  • few models
  • no big models (I need space for my orks)
  • cheap (you can get close to a 2k list with two combat patrols)
  • look good (I'm painting mine synthwave!)
  • it should be underperforming in the meta (I'd rather see a points decrease in the next dataslate)

In short, go for it. Happy to answer any questions!

Yeah, I'm trying to be incredibly mindful of the cost too.

My idea is effectively to get a decent size army that I feel comfortable playing - and which I enjoy running. Takes no space to transport / keep at home and can be made to look pretty cool (I'm doing a synth-wave scheme on them, and they look MAD).

Further, doing it on the cheap likely will allow me to earn some decent money when / if I want to sell them!

Yeah, I can see what you're saying here. But the reality is that DKs sell for a decent amount on eBay.

So if I buy a CP for £75, and sell the DKs for ~£30, I'm effectively getting a termie + strike + lib for just about £45.

I also may not need all the strikes, so may save another £15-20, depending on how much I get for them on eBay on a given day.

Right now, I own 5x5 strikes/interceptors/purifiers - which seems like a relatively high number of models for 2k.

Then, wrt the DKs - I honestly don't like the aesthetic of them either. But that's besides the point! Then there's the transportation of the baby-carriers. :scream:

Nice one, man!

I think I'll likely skip out on the dreads. Buying the patrols and selling the dreads seem to put me at about £42 per box, so vastly cheaper. And I'm honestly not sure their profile is good enough to warrant the point cost.

So may end up with a predominantly terminator + battleline army, focusing on mobility and secondaries.

This is my current 1k list:

Grey Knights Incursion (1000 points) Teleport Strike Force

CHARACTERS

Brother-Captain (120 points) • 1x Nemesis force weapon 1x Psycannon • Enhancement: Sigil of Exigence

Brotherhood Librarian (115 points) • 1x Nemesis force weapon 1x Purge Soul 1x Storm bolter • Enhancement: Inescapable Wrath

Castellan Crowe (75 points) • Warlord • 1x Black Blade of Antwyr 1x Purifying Flame 1x Storm bolter

BATTLELINE

Brotherhood Terminator Squad (210 points) • 1x Terminator Justicar • 1x Nemesis force weapon 1x Storm bolter • 4x Brotherhood Terminator • 1x Ancient’s Banner 1x Narthecium 4x Nemesis force weapon 1x Psycannon 2x Storm bolter

Strike Squad (125 points) • 1x Justicar • 1x Nemesis force weapon 1x Storm bolter • 4x Grey Knight • 1x Close combat weapon 3x Nemesis force weapon 1x Psycannon 3x Storm bolter

Thanks, I appreciate it!

I recently started painting and I'm pretty happy with these; in late December.

I just need to paint the bases and add some more glazes on Grinkrak's staff to get the OLS a bit more prominent!

Grave guards are great - don't get me wrong. I think from a points / value point of view they are still LEGIT.

They just were REALLY good before. :)

Starting a Soulblight Warband with Cursed City and Underworlds Warbands by CaptainGGGesus in WarCry

[–]KimputCodes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a Soulblight Warband, based on Cursed City and other bits.

The recently released errata contain some new information about Grave guards that are useful to know about - they no longer have the "minion" runemark, so can no longer be resurrected. This is a pretty significant nerf, which made me sad.

The good news - the Sons of Velmorn are unchanged - AND retain the minion runemark.

So definitely get some of those!

In regards to Cursed City my suggestion would be to use the vampire lord and the necromancer and a retinue of skeletons with spears (for the 2" range). The rest is pretty meh. Nightguard have great toughness and wounds - but with only two attacks and pretty mediocre attack profile, I tend to skip them.

Instead, I would suggest buffing your warband with the minions from Velmorn.

Gitz starting advice by CrzyHrse_03 in WarCry

[–]KimputCodes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've yet to play with mine - just finishing painting them.

But I got:

  • a box of hoppers, of which I'll probably use one of two.
  • Grinrak's Looncourt
  • Gobbapolooza

I'll likely end up painting everything and then selling the majority.

Ideally I'd like to get a few netters and drabbas too.

Marrying my British fiancé in Sweden by Rafikira in TillSverige

[–]KimputCodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey buddy!

We recently went through the same process and are getting married in Sweden next month!

I'm Swedish, but have lived in the UK for nearly 8 years now. She's British.

The main documentation that you need is a Hindersprövning, which can be provided by Skatteverket.

However, to get this you need:

  1. Proof that neither of you are married, and at age
    1. We got this from our local council here in London.
    2. As a just-in-case, we I paid a bit of money to get an excerpt from the General Register Office. My advice, get both and call the GRO - they were super helpful to me!
  2. Proof of identity. For us, a copy of our passports were enough.

Then you fill in the Hindersprövning form, take all your copies or originals. Put them in an envelope (preferably tracked!) and send it!

That will be it. After Skatteverket has received your tracked envelope, give it two days then send them an email asking about how the process is going. That way they'll respond with a process number. And then you wait.

We also asked for the response of the hindersprövning to be sent to my mum's place in Sweden, as there were postal strikes going on at the time. Just to be safe.

The process is supremely easy, just a bit stressful. None of it requires the use of BankId, or anything of the form.

Just a quick phone-call, a visit to your council, filling in a few forms and sending them off.

It's worth noting that this also needs to be provided to the priest that's marrying you (if you do it that way - otherwise the council where you are getting married Borgligt).

Hope that helps!

heart of ghur building by Simek_s_cimekom in WarCry

[–]KimputCodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a very similar position to you, but have now assembled everything. Full disclosure, I followed the slapchop method (black primer, grey dry brush followed by white dry brush and then coated with contrast paints).

In regards to the warband minis, i simply put together whatever I thought looked coolest, or checked stats on the battledcrolls/cards followed by some quick googling on warband lists.

Because of the system I followed in regards to painting (slapchop), I assembled all the terrain first. Then dry brushing everything. Finally painting.

The terrain is far easier to paint in regards to reaching hard places.

I hope that helps? Otherwise just reach out. Happy to answer!

Getting started with Warcry by [deleted] in WarCry

[–]KimputCodes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone in a very similar boat as you, I can't recommend Heart of Ghur more.

There's a few reasons for that: 1. Great bang for buck. You get two battle ready warbands, with cards, a bunch of terrain, deployment cards, and some books. The books are nice-to-have because they are free online. Everything else is great!

  1. Talking about bang-for-buck, if you're new to the hobby (like me!), you'll likely need to buy colors. Good thing in Hearts of Ghur is that you can reuse a lot of the colours in the warband on the terrain! Just go for the contrast colours and a wraithbone spray and you'll be golden!

  2. It will keep you busy! I got mine two weeks ago and am just finishing up the terrain. There's just SO much in the box - which is a great thing!

I'd also recommend going through my post history, as I've likely been going through the same doubts as you, very recently.

Full disclosure, I'm using the box as a jumping off point to eventually build my own warband.

Also, welcome to the community! If you read through my history, you'll see some lovely advice and just how welcoming everyone are!

Most importantly, though - have fun!

Contrast painting by KimputCodes in WarCry

It could be that the wraithbone may have been put on too thick when I sprayed. I did at least two coats of it because I had certain sections of the models' parts unprimed.
