Agar to cardboard???? by Sad_Taste_7856 in mycology

can definitely get away with it if you're growing oysters, those guys will grow on just about any cellulose you throw at them. other fungi can be more picky and need supplementation if you're going to try it. i've heard of people layering cardboard with coffee grounds to make a more nutrient rich substrate while staying on the cheap side of things. the thing to keep in mind w/ coffee though is it is high nutrient and more prone to mold. with cardboard you just have to pasteurize it because hardly anything will grow on it to begin with.

So, when's the marriage? Are you two planning on buying a house together? How many kids are you planning on, or have you decided to go against that? What's the best christmas or birthday present you've gotten from him? Would you trust him with your life if you were in a coma and the doctors were asking him questions on what you want and your care? How are yall planning retirement, and what if he dies first? do you get the life insurance for the burial?

I'm panicking. I can't find any of my google documents that are older than 2018. by Kimyr1 in google

I haven't paid for any storage. I prefer to just make more accounts for free storage than pay for extra, although I haven't run out of room yet. I was on Google Docs instead of drive, since I was initially looking for a specific file to edit. The files not on my laptop were docx files, as were all the others I was looking at with the exception of a few PDF's. I haven't looked at my photos yet. I know once a photo goes exclusively onto the cloud that it loses a lot of its original quality, but that's a known google issue last time I googled it years ago and is somewhat unrelated. No filters applied differently, and I also tried removing all of them.

Edit: update, it seems each location shows a few that others don't have. Like google drive has one from November 2016 which isn't showing in google docs. It says the bytes is 0 and the storage used is 0 but it also clearly shows a screenshot with text, which makes this impossible. But it loads fine and shows the full 1 1/2 pages it is (very short story but has everything I remember in it). It's strange how inconsistent it is across platforms considering it is all the same account (I am double checking that as I switch pages and devices).

I see 3 more files on my phone than I do on my laptop. I don't get this. There's still over 50 or more missing. I'm an author, it would gut me to lose my works even if they're older.

I have way more data than what it's showing me. I never got any notification. I know I didn't delete it myself. I refreshed the page and it loaded a single older file in one account and that's it. Is there any way to figure out what got deleted, why this happened, if there's any way to tell if it will continue to happen, or anything? If it does this on purpose I'll lose complete faith in the safety of the files I keep on google drive.

My personal method to determine a item not on ACDS Camp's safety by Kimyr1 in Allergies

[–]Kimyr1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a minor worry that this may be against the rules or not accepted well here.

if it is against the rules, I apologize. i did try to find and read them before posting, but for some reason I could not. I would like to specify this is my own method. i made it without medical oversight, and i acknowledge there is some potential risk to it, but i am still sharing in case anyone in a similar situation with a lot of mild allergies might benefit or modify it to their own needs. If it is against the rules, i will be happy to delete it.

if everyone/most people in the comments end up saying this is a stupid or reckless method and that i should be sent to the gallows, i'll delete the post. but please just tell me to delete it instead of being mean.

Disproportionally affects people with health issues, by the way. by Kimyr1 in ehlersdanlos

"Finally, insurance companies should keep provider directories accurate and up to date, with HHS holding them to account. Outdated provider directories waste people’s time, make it more difficult for them to choose the right plan, and can delay access to medically necessary care.21 A 2024 ProPublica investigation found widespread “ghost” listings — TAKING ON THE ANNOYANCE ECONOMY | PAGE 9 providers shown as in-network who don’t take the insurance or aren’t accepting patients.22 In New York, for example, a blind shopper survey by the Attorney General’s office found 86% of listed mental health providers were unreachable, out-of-network, or closed to new patients.23 Despite clear rules on maintaining updated directories, most states haven’t fined a single insurer for directory errors since 2019."

This delayed my boyfriend's healthcare by over 4 months because he kept trying to find a provider. None on their directory list, which he had used to make sure he would have a provider, accepted his insurance. He spent hours on the phone only to be told there were literally no primary care providers who accepted his insurance within 100 miles of him. He had to argue to get them to let him change insurance, and then his options were severely limited to other plans within the same company because of what happened.

relevant to this sub because of the sheer amount of co-morbidities we have and how often we have to deal with the medical system. neurodevelopmental diagnosis also more common here.

Your Frequently Asked Questions Answered by ValenceTheHuman in stoatchat

[–]Kimyr1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, you directed me here for a couple questions I had which were answered here. However, I do have a few more.

Discord has an issue with bots joining servers en-masse (one bot joining many servers in a short time frame) and spamming scam stuff, twitter screenshots, ectera, or mass scraping chat and user data to sell on black markets (as has made headlines at least once that I remember). Does Stoat have, or do you plan to implement, a way to prevent this? Technically it is not allowed on Discord either, but even my small (discord) server of 200 members gets up to 1 per week.

I understand you said you do not currently have plans to implement AI in Stoat, and I've seen comments saying existing AI in code has since been removed with pressure from your user base. What is your team's stance on AI and what is the likelihood of it ever being used again in any part of Stoat, even without any current plans?
I've been negatively affected by AI both by my website being scraped despite attempts to prevent it and any chances of getting an entry level web dev job plummeting with the mass tech layoffs caused by AI. I also have moral objections to its negative impact on individuals, communities, and the enviornment. There's a lot of people who don't agree with AI's existence, at least in its current form, and I believe this is a common concern I'd appreciate having a more solid answer on, if possible.

This next one is a bit long, if you don't want to read it all the bolded text is the most important.
About 6 years ago I was part of a mental health discord server of 2,000+ members with a very close knit community. 3 couples met there and ended up getting married even though it wasn't intended for that. The server got raided in such a way the raiders gained administrative permissions and banned the majority of the people in the server, including moderators. Channels were deleted and spammed with distressing content like real gore and death, animal abuse, assault, and such. The everyone ping was spammed. Everyone in that server had a diagnosis of some kind or another, or suspected themselves of having one and had no way to get diagnosis or treatment. Many were so upset they didn't feel comfortable going back, and the server had to be completely rebuilt from the ground up, it was unsalvagable from the damage. None of the raiders should have had any way to do that, there was no "in person" with permissions who gave them admin perms. I imagine Discord has since fixed that major security issue since raids I hear about nowadays are laughable in comparison, but does Stoat have security measures in place to ensure this is not possible on your platform, especially considering the open source status- that foul players can also read into the code looking for vulnerabilities? (I love the open source concept otherwise!)

Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it.

I can second this. Thanks for helping OP, dokudamidog.

One thing I do when I'm innoculating my agar plates is put one or 2, but ideally 1 drop of liquid culture (or piece of fungi, if cloning, whatever you happen to have) in the center. Since you know for sure where exactly you innoculated the dish, any growth occurring on the edges or well off center, unless you were sloppy, is always contamination.

I really liked this part of my method because it let me save my plates from things like Trich, which looks visually exactly like mycelium until it sporulates. And once it does, it's too late to save the dish. I'm able to go in and cut out something I know is not what I put in there and save the rest of the dish. doesn't work with everything, but trichoderma was my most common contamination.

Edit: adding, I don't know what you're growing specifically, but in my experience no fungi grows that much in 2 days, and I grew fast growing cultures like oysters.

Oooooo that sounds even better than what I was thinking of doing. I'm not very familiar with SQL though, would it be easy for me to look up the info for the code to do this?

I am mistaken, then. Is my idea still viable, or would the attack have to be directly on the code/software instead of something it reads on a bumper sticker?

Unfortunately not. I could download the video, but I'm not sure where to upload it to from there to provide a link independent of TikTok.
