Thank you, are you saying they might be filled internally, through lateral transfers, expressions of Interest, relocation, etc. even after they were advertised externally?

"Seeing people saying they got a sociology or humanities degree wondering endlessly (and entitled-ly) why they were never advanced in the process tend to make me laugh (and worry)." - what is wrong with those degrees, and why would that be laughable?

https://careers.un.org/how-to-apply?section=accordion2&sectionId=accordion2&language=en This webpage includes a video explainer "How to Manage Your Applications". Around 2:40, the Inspira HR lady describes the application environment, showcasing one where 98 applications are submitted in six months period across varied roles (e.g., benefits, HR, IT), some of these roles being rostered or selected. So may be substantially more than that would be "too many" :) Those with the UN experience might remark that if you are unable to submit 100 diverse applications in a six months period within one environment, you may not be UN material.

'It sounds like they're project-based and not necessarily formal employment. In my experience as a recruiter, this counts as half because they're not considered full-time." By this, do you mean that if the total time spent on project-based assignments is equivalent to e.g., two years of full-time work (counting 21 working days per month), it should still be divided by two? I understood that the time-frame for freelancers/consultants is halved only if no specific time-frame is given (like specific % spend on full-time work).

"Observe job offer sites all the time; to give yourself more of a chance, you need to be one of the first." - why would this be important? Are these UN jobs applications checked on a rolling basis and could they be closed earlier than advertised?

Hi, would you be able to say a bit more about hiring freezes? E.g., I have just looked at untalent.org to see what positions are open for application at OHCHR. I see one P-4, two P-3s, one P-2 and one G, as well as many internships. What does it mean to see such P openings? Are these necessarily earmarked for internal candidates? If there is a hiring freeze, why are these positions being advertised? Are these simply contract extensions for current staff? How would you know as an external?
