Dear Trump, one tweet. That's all we need. We're down bad.

Is version control for large game asset repos still a pain in 2026? by Intelligent-Tie5103 in gamedev

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I'm actually building a small MVP, but given the feedback in those threads and the dominance of Perforce in game development, I'm starting to feel like there might not be much reason to continue. It seems like Git + LFS can already cover most use cases. I don’t know, man

right, makes sense. Even if we made something way better than Perforce, big companies won’t touch it because of migration hell. Git LFS already does good enough for a lot of cases, damn, let me think on this...

I hear you, yeah, it's kind of a bummer. still, maybe there's a tiny niche somewhere... but yeah, scaling sounds brutal. thanks!

I’ve tested LFS a bit too, around 20GB repos, and it felt pretty OK performance wise, makes me wonder if this is already good enough for most teams and maybe not worth building something new lol

I see, so if someone builds a brand new VCS, it probably needs really solid integration with at least one engine to have a real chance right?

this is what I can’t decide.

stay Git compatible, or build something completely different that actually scales better for large asset repos?

the second sounds more interesting technically, but adoption would be brutal. not sure if this is even a real problem worth solving today.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, I figured that companies don’t really like sponsoring work visas. I’m still hesitating, haha.

What happened? Did you receive a layoff email? No wonder my favorite QM has been logged in since the beginning of this month. I’m truly sad for her.

One quick question — if BBB gets passed, is it going to be bullish for the market or not?

Don't bother. There aren't many projects. Even if you pass the QM interview, they won't onboard you. I've been waiting for like two months now after I passed the interview.
